Some of you may recall that every January, I like to run through the fics that I've posted for the previous calender year. Yeah... that didn't happen, January 2012. In fact, I was so late that when I had several free hours during a weekend in May, I was like, 'Oh, no, don't post your fanfic masterlist now. Wait until June, that way you can be exactly six months late.' And then I did not get around to posting my fanfic masterlist in June. Seven months late just doesn't have the same ring to it, you know?

In other news, since I've been reading the majority of my fic on AO3 these days, I've reposted some of my more recent works (and will be posting some of my favs from 2011) at my AO3 page. I'm redbrunja over there as well. (And I'm still new to that archive, so if I'm inadvertently doing something against fannish etiquette or that makes my fics less likely to be read, let me know.)

No More Dreaming Like A Girl (Sansa)

Question: is AO3 better than fanfiction.net for constructive criticism?
Saturday, July 7th, 2012 07:35 pm (UTC)
Anything is better than FF.Net

Sorry to jump in, but in my personal opinion AO3 is all right but LJ is best. That's just me, though, and I know different people have their preferences.

I assume A03 gets a lot less crazy reviewers than ff.net does? And doesn't try to censor out swearing?

Don't worry about jumping in, I appreciate other people's opinions, especially if I'm wondering whether I should join a website or not.

AO3 doesn't censor anything out, I don't think. ALL DA PORN. And the reviewers leave actual comments instead of just a string of heart signs or a crazy rant.

That sounds quite promising. As much as I love reviews that shower praise onto the author, constructive comments are the best.

Well, it's certainly DESIGNED so that reviewers and writers can leave feedback for each other (see my bitterness re: fic on tumblr). The commenting interface is actually similar to LJ's.

Thought so. I love that whoever built the website made a symbols key so you don't have to add that information into your author's notes.

Don't get me started on Tumblr. It's absolutely lovely for art/pictures but it's not ideal for fic/meta. Give me LJ for fic and meta any day!

Preach! I have no idea how people make friends or having conversations on tumblr.

They do it via reblog (at the cost of cluttering up their beautiful, beautiful layouts). I think people also abuse the Q+A function of Tumblr too.

As I said, I'd rather have serious meta discussions on LJ. It's just easier to manage your conversations on LJ and as I said, you don't have to worry about messing up your layout while doing it. If Tumblr somehow manages to create some kind of forum creating option, they'll be rolling in money because I think that's the only thing that puts people off joining.
