Okay, I'm finally going to finish up this meme!

Ever felt like you should revoke your shipping credentials? Because you like the strangest ships and/or parts of your ship? Well TELL US MORE. Answer the questions with ships you love like burning.*

*I have comparatively few pairing that I could accurately say I ship like burning, so I qualify this as ships that I a.) really like and b.) would be interested in reading and/or writing fanfic about.

Some of you may recall that every January, I like to run through the fics that I've posted for the previous calender year. Yeah... that didn't happen, January 2012. In fact, I was so late that when I had several free hours during a weekend in May, I was like, 'Oh, no, don't post your fanfic masterlist now. Wait until June, that way you can be exactly six months late.' And then I did not get around to posting my fanfic masterlist in June. Seven months late just doesn't have the same ring to it, you know?

In other news, since I've been reading the majority of my fic on AO3 these days, I've reposted some of my more recent works (and will be posting some of my favs from 2011) at my AO3 page. I'm redbrunja over there as well. (And I'm still new to that archive, so if I'm inadvertently doing something against fannish etiquette or that makes my fics less likely to be read, let me know.)

Game of Thrones:

Solace (Dany/Jorah)
No More Dreaming Like A Girl (Sansa)

Haven:

Lobster Races (Audrey/Duke)
Heat Delusions (Audrey/Nathan)
Baby, You're A Lost Cause (Audrey/Duke)
There's Other Girls In The Sea (Audrey/Duke)
Rugburn (Audrey/Duke)

Justified:

Oh, No, You're Not The One For Me (Ava/Boyd)
Lovely In Her Bones (Ava/Boyd)
Dove & The Waterline (Ava/Boyd)
Life Is Uncertain (Tim/Rachel)

Misfits:

A Girl's Got Her Prerogatives (Alisha)
Your Words Don't Match Your Mouth (Kelly/Nathan)
So Say We All (Alisha/Simon)
Burn Your Whole Life Down (Caroline, Stefan)

Push:

My Heart Will Surely Fail (Cassie/Nick)

True Blood:

There's A Boy Here In Town, Says He'll Love Me Forever (Jessica/Hoyt)
Homesick (Jessica)
Lessons (Jessica/Tommy)

Revenge:

Don't Believe In Anything You Can't Break (Emily/Nolan)

Rookie Blue:

Hold Your Love Hostage (Gail/Dov)

The Vampire Diaries:

Paper Town In The Rearview Mirror (Caroline/Tyler)
Singing Songs On The Eve of Destruction (Caroline, Stefan)
Saints Can't Help Me Now (Stefan/Elena)

For her 700th post, [livejournal.com profile] stainofmylove decided to list her ten favorite male and ten favorite female characters from television and movies. IN ORDER.

Challenge accepted.

via [livejournal.com profile] stainofmylove: "A favorite character is an interesting thing. Sometimes it's aspirational, sometimes it's about feeling a deep kinship, and sometimes the character is just so fucked up and funny and smart and weird etc. etc. that I just find them fascinating."

Discuss.

gacked from [livejournal.com profile] mollivanders:

How many (and which) ships have you shipped from the time you started watching a show until the show ended and you still continue to ship? There used to be rules, but screw the rules.

A couple further guidelines to narrow the field:

I had to have no other serious overlapping pairings (a.k.a. if I had pairing A/B I could not also love pairing B/C).

I decided that I had to have consumed all of the media in question. This knocked out Chuck/Sarah and Aeryn/John. And also Kitty/Comac, which has the distinction of being the only series where I literally had to stop reading the series because the couple I didn't like wasn't going to end up together (which involved the strong suspicion that Kitty and Cormac only didn't bang because the author really wanted to maliciously tease her readers, one of the best characters being basically written out of the books, and a canon marriage that I loathed. Not that I'm bitter or anything.)

I don't know about you, flist, but I am thrilled the holidays are over. I mean, yes, it's technically Christmas for another fifteen minutes, but all my familial obligations are over, I have the day off of work tomorrow, and while 75% of the people I work with are still going to be on vacation on Tuesday, at least I'm not going to be dealing with the stress of them trying to do five zillion things before they leave. Also, I downgraded my New Year's Eve plans from 'huge group of people go to The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo' on Friday plus find a party for Saturday to 'huge group of people go to The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo' on Saturday, thus giving my weekend WAY MORE 'curl up with my computer and my internet friends' time. (I am considering doing a comment meme - anyone else interested?)

So, in the spirit of getting this livejournal back into fandom shape, what follows is my fannish year's-end post.

First of all, this was THE YEAR OF KATNISS EVERDEEN: MOST AWESOME.

Seriously, one of my first posts of 2011 was me flailing about The Hunger Games and the flail just continued all year long. MAY THE ODDS BE EVER IN YOUR FAVOR. ALSO, CONGRATULATIONS ON EVERYTHING YOU CHOOSE TO BE, KATNISS EVERDEEN. (Random tangent: when I went to go see Sherlock Homes: A Game of Shadows a.k.a. twenty-six dollars I will never see again, while in the theater I saw a huge display of THG posters and gasped, shouted 'The Hunger Games!' and flailed my hands, causing an entire family to turn around on the escalator and stare.)

Top Five Characters of 2011:

Katniss Everdeen, The Hunger Games.
Boyd Crowder, Justified.
Gail Peck, Rookie Blue.
The Evil Queen/Regina Miller, Once Upon A Time.
Cameron, The Sarah Conner Chronicles.

Top Five Ships of 2011:

Katniss/Peeta, The Hunger Games.
Tyler/Caroline, The Vampire Diaries.
Sif/Loki, Thor.
Boyd/Ava, Justified.
Daenerys/Jorah, Game of Thrones.

ETA: When I looked closer at the dates on some of my entries, I realized that it was 2010 when I first read The Hunger Games and Katniss was one of my top five characters of last year. Well, she's fucking well going to be on this year as well! And likely will make the top 5 of 2012 to boot! That is just how awesome she is!

Oh, flist, I've missed you so. I admit, I handled LJ's latest denial of service attack pretty well, given that I was super-busy with real life... but it made me sad every time I checked my email and didn't have comments to reply to (or had comments I couldn't reply to). For some more news about LJ, check this out.

~~~
I am sad about Amy Winehouse. That woman had a damn fine set of pipes and I really loved "Unholy War," "Back In Black" and "Rehab" (which I always thought was deliciously pointed and ironic).
~~~

On the subject of music, I feel like this:

is a legitimately terrible song yet every time it's on the radio I turn it up. Oh, self.

~

I am super-excited about the upcoming porn-a-thon. Anyone else? What pairings/prompts are you looking forward to?

Not Going There meme: Everyone has things they write about. Everyone has things they don't write about. Challenge me out of my comfort zone by telling me something I don't write about, but you'd like to hear about.

~

Also, I just feel the need to comment that Justified has some of the best TFLN graphics around:

I would love for someone to make a Boyd Crowder vid to this song:

And once all three Hunger Games movies have been released, I would love an ensemble vid to Slow Down Ghandi.

In fandom, we have a tendency to hate the networks (DAMN YOU, FOX! DAMN YOU!) And while it's understandable (RIP TSCC, Wonderfalls, Firefly) there are also some times when I think executive meddling has made a show better.

For example:

–The tone of Firefly - the mix of drama and humor and pathos existed because the network wanted the show to be funnier. That blend was something I adored about the series and I disliked Serenity the movie largely because of the bleak tone that was created when Whedon had his head.

–In the Justified pilot, the scene with Winona and Raylan at the end was added because the network wanted the pilot to be "darker." Now, part of me is rolling my eyes going, 'did you WATCH the pilot? Read more... )

–The Dollhouse original pilot. Thank god the network told Whedon to redo it because frankly, the unaired pilot sucks. It's long, it's boring, it doesn't have a good narrative through-line, and it doesn't explain the Dollhouse in any kind of concise way. The actual pilot they went with both explains what the dollhouse is in about eight minutes and then has an awesome profiler vs serial killer story for the rest of the episode, which is a narrative I am on like white on rice.

So what are your examples of time exec meddling made things more awesome instead of less?

Okay, this is a slightly biased question, given that several shows have just wrapped, leaving me vaguely disappointed, and several shows have not yet started with new episodes, leaving me hopeful and optimistic.

The Raylan Givens portion of this episode was so intense and so perfect that I really felt it deserved its own post but there were a couple of other things that I wanted to mention.

  • Here is a grab-bag of fandom things:

Oh, Damon x Elena, how so deliciously dark and sexy?
  • The LA Times wrote an awesome article about the ladies of Justified. How is it that such a male-dominated show has such great women, actresses who love their characters so, AND has male writers/actor/producers being all like, 'oh our ladies? Yeah, they're awesome.' Graham Yost, you keep doing what you're doing - and teach Hollywood how to follow your lead.
  •  I started watching Fringe again. I just finished up the first season and am starting on the second - and is it wrong that the person I really ship Olivia most with is Charlie?
Let's play a question game. You can ask me...basically anything you want to? And I will answer honestly. Fandom-related, real life, whatever. Have at me.
