Avengers Deleted Scenes

The deleted scenes

left me with DEFINITE Hill/Fury feelings. I love their negotation of loyalty and how Hill and Fury are very clear with each other about their actions - there is no shame with these two even when they (might be?) using different means to achive the same ends. (Did that make any sense?)

However, I am THRILLED that they did not use the Maria Hill opening. It's too dark for the tone of the film, much too manipulative, and would have seemed really, really cheap. Avengers is a much stronger movie for just starting at the beginning (tesseract is misbehaving! Loki appears! Car chase shootout!) than trying to ramp up the tension in a fake way with Maria giving her repot.

Also, I find it really interesting that Maria pulls a Romanoff with the security council - she acted all vulnerable and shocky to get them to lower their guard and then verbally OWNED THEIR ASS.

Also, a softer cap updated with some more delicious rip-out-your-lung-with-Steve-feels graphics. Especially this, this, this, and this.

the thing about the alternate opening is that it's like. ahahhaa. we all know there's an iron man 3?

That was exactly the thought I had in the theater as Tony rode that nuke into space. GEE, I WONDER IF HE'LL SURVIVE, OH, WAIT, I HAVE NO ANXIETY ABOUT HIS SURVIVAL AT ALL, HE'S SAFE AS HOUSES.

because that's maria all over, she has no patience for the avengers, but she has to admit that what they do works and that she believes it will keep working until all of a sudden, it doesn't and she has to be there to pick up the pieces.

Exactly. I ADORE that scene where she's like, 'we have no idea how big a bang this tesseract can cause.' And Fury's like, 'WORK WITH ME HILL, JUST BE A LITTLE OPTIMISTIC, PLEASE.'

I think one of the weirdest things about the Avengers movie is that it's an entirely Joss Whedon enterprise...except he was prevented from killing off the character he typically kills off. There are always two. But he could only have one.

So obviously the opening with Maria would have been weird, but the closing? UGH, the closing! I LOVE IT.

And Steve! Right in the feelings. (Although Peggy being alive josses (snerk!) almost all of the fic I have read.)

And that fight scene with no effects? HOLY GOD, SCARLET JOHANSSON!

I'm gonna need more icons.

See, I actually buy Joss deciding to kill Coulson if it hadn't been mandated by the studio. And I'm really glad that he didn't kill off two characters because I feel like, obviously, the character he would have killed off would have been Hawkeye, and that would have been really lame, cheap storytelling, imho.

I think fandom has all agreed to complete ignore that because it's just too damn cruel. I mean, seriously, how bad would that be - to have your lost bf show up looking 25 and glorious when you're old and decrepit? I mean, seriously, worst outcome ever.

Hell yes. I was super impressed with all the actors and the choreograph my god! Can you imagine how skill you have to be in choreograph a fight like that? Where you have to know how it's going to play out with all the special effects but put it together without any?

I haven't really watched the deleted scenes yet, I'm mostly waiting for the DVD to come out so some things are still a surprise.

Although some things have leaked on to tumblr and I must ask you.

Loki with or without the gag at the end?

WITHOUT QUESTION, WITH. Like, I cannot believe NOT muzzling the god of lies was even proposed. Plus, that makes it much more believable that he was actually defeated and really getting dragged off to face justice.

I did like that you could see Hiddleston's acting a little more without the gag, but I agree that it made him look more defeated and like he was at the mercy of something else.
