Also, is it just me - or does Marvel tend to have live action stuff that's better than their animated stuff and DC tends to have animated stuff that's better than their live action? (Excusing Nolan's Batverse, which was intended for an older demographic)

That they do!

To be honest, I have not seen enough of either Marvel's animated things or DC's animated things to have an opinion. However, I totally trust yours, so if you say so...

Agreed. I also think that in a lot of ways, the girls get THE BEST and most relatable and nuanced back stories. Robin doesn't get the character arc that either M'gann or Artemis gets, Kalduar gets one or two episodes, Superboy was made to be a weapon and rejected by his father figure but the resolution of that happens off screen. Wally has a nice growing up arc, imho, but his gf, on the other hand? Gets an epic arc about turning about from her parent's choices, forging a new path, building a family then taking the risk of trusting them with the truth. AWESOMENESS. And then M'gann gets a long term, epic characterization arc that involves purposely forming her identity, being afraid of her own powers, MISUSING those powers, and I'm going to assume, learning for her mistakes and becoming a better, stronger, more ethical superheroine.
For a show that started about dudes being annoyed that their mentors weren't giving them enough respect, it sure turned into the badass ladies show!
(Admittedly, we haven't seen more than one or two episodes with stuff about Zatanna, but still.)

The show is just so relentlessly sex positive, it's great. (not the fun kind of naked, etc)

Hmmm. Now I'm wondering if Canary had a conversation with Conner about this as well.

Which also dealt with some adult topics too. By the way, did you know that Lexington is apparently a homosexual and will be having a homosexual relationship in the Gargoyles comics?no subject
I don't either! Like, are standards and practices just not paying attention or did they intentionally let it slide?

I did not!

Perhaps they're more relaxed than we like to think? You and I can understand the deeper meaning behind Batman's comment because we know all about sex and sexuality, whereas most children are ignorant of such things thanks to society's ignorant views on homosexuality. My theory is that the censorship people don't care about implicit adult content as long as it's outside the kids' knowledge, because the sexual meaning will go over their heads anyway. I imagine it costs a lot of time and money to make sure that childrens' cartoons are suitable, so it's possible that they only edit out the more risque content.
I did not!
I didn't know till I read this adorable confession on tumblr. (http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lq0612HbRu1r1uuc8o1_500.jpg) Even Greg himself (http://www.comicmix.com/news/2008/07/17/interview-greg-weisman-talks-gargoyles/) confirmed that Lexington is gay. And if we're lucky
and if Greg doesn't get threatened with a pink slipwe might see Lexington might realise his sexuality (http://gargoyles.wikia.com/wiki/Lexington) in the comics. It's a shame we never got to see this be confirmed in the television show, but I can understand why Greg didn't decide to reveal Lexington sexuality to us within the show. American childrens' television might let the odd sex joke pass through the censors but it'll be a while before they say "screw the conservative parents" and give homosexuals the representation they deserve. I mean, it's rare even to have positive representation of homosexuals on ADULT television.

I highly doubt it. I think that stuff you and I might get would go over children's heads... and I think it does over the heads of the FCC sometimes, too, and that's the only reason it's allowed.

Exactly.

That is probably the more likely explanation, especially if the members of the FCC comes from conservative backgrounds. How would you be able to read double entendre if things like sex were absolutely forbidden from public conversation?
