Ever felt like you should revoke your shipping credentials? Because you like the strangest ships and/or parts of your ship? Well TELL US MORE. Answer the questions with ships you love like burning.*
*I have comparatively few pairing that I could accurately say I ship like burning, so I qualify this as ships that I a.) really like and b.) would be interested in reading and/or writing fanfic about.
Day 1: The ship you don't want to be endgame.
Alias, Syd/Will
I thought these two had a lot of potential (and the tequila/ice cream scene is still one of my favorite scenes from Alias) but post season two, there isn't much room for these characters to interact, the way the show went (and I am not a fan of how they ended up hooking up when they actually did).
Still.
I loved loved loved their friendship-dynamic and how I could tell from the first scene with Will that he was carrying a long-time torch for Syd.
I wouldn't have necessarily wanted Will to be The One for Sydney (especially because the best time for them to have dated, imho, was while the best stuff with Vaughn was also happening), but I would have really enjoyed seeing them in an actual relationship.
Day 2: The ship you love becauseit really never will happen but don't want to happen in canon.
The Avengers, Natasha/Clint
I am pretty dead serious about NOT wanting explicit Clint/Natasha in any upcoming movies.
One of the things I love about this pairing - and one reason I ship it so damn hard – is how fucking ambiguous and understated it is. I adore that this ship was written as two brothers-in-arms and IN ADDITION TO THAT, on a narrative level, Clint fulfils the role of the girlfriend in most action movies (Natasha, of course, being the action hero).
I love that given the information the movie gives us, you could just as easily argue that Natasha and Clint do NOT have a romantic relationship as that they do. (What you can't argue about is the fact that they are hugely important to each other.)
In Avengers 2, I do not want to learn about how they hooked up after Natasha joined SHIELD. If we ever get backstory, I want it to be focused on Natasha and the Red Room, Natasha and the Winter Soldier (because fuck yes do I want to see Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan making out), and I want there to be BUCKETLOADS of UNSPOKEN FEELINGS and SHARED HISTORY between Clint and Natasha (like there was in Avengers). But preferably not makeouts. Let's leave that for the fanfic.
Day 3: "They are the worst possible thing to happen to each other" ship.
The Vampire Diaries, Klaus/Rebekah.
While I don't know if I'd qualify Rebekah as the worst thing to happen to Klaus, he's certainly the worst thing to happen to her.
For centuries, I think they were actually sort-of okay, in the sense they they were two (and sometimes three) siblings with inappropriate boundries who's main recreation was killing people.
But them Klaus couldn't be properly co-dependent, decided he wanted quantity over quality in regards to family, and ditched her to make eyes at Stefan and build a hybrid army. Leaving Rebekah, as Damon cruelly and accurately diagnoses, lonely and desperate. On thing that strikes me as super-tragic about Rebekah is that whenever anyone is nice to her or shows an interest, she is always suspicious.. and she's always proven right.
Hmm... This turned into less "I ship this" (which I do, especially pre-canon) than "Rebekah needs a BFF."
Day 4: The ship that would ruin/assassinate the characters if it happened.
Parks & Rec, Leslie/Ron
I feel the last couple of episodes of the latest season of Parks really illustrated how perfect Leslie and Ben are for each other - these are mature adults who love and support each other and seriously, how groundbreaking and heart-throbbing is "I love and like you" as a romantic confession?
THAT SAID.
When I watch Ron and Leslie interact, I totally see them through shipper's goggles. I mean, unquestionably, Ron and Leslie would be pretty terrible together - they want different things and they like different things and there's pretty incompatible in a lot of ways. Ron is drawn to strong women but also tends to dissappear into them and I really like the way that Leslie will push him but also respect who is he. To sum up, I kind of feel like Leslie is the love of Ron's life but he's not the love of hers.
