Here are some of the names being bandied about for the role of the love interest in Captain America 2, and (for the third time) there is an article saying that Black Widow is going to be in a marvel movie (excluding Avengers 2).

I heard some excitement from my flist about the last bit but let's face it - this is LITERALLY THE THIRD TIME I've heard that. It's the SECOND time I've heard she was going to be in CA2, only for it to be revealed as just wishful thinking.

I'm not holding my breath.

Also, if they are casting Sharon Carter, I do not understand why they are not just using the exquisite Hayley Atwell again. Sharon Carter canonically looks exactly like Peggy Carter. Seriously. Why are you making more work for yourself? None of the actresses speculated about are right for that role, imho. Or at least, of the actresses I know.

In less bitchy news, details of the casting call for the upcoming SHIELD tv show makes me want to cry rainbow tears.

re: SHIELD

Five major characters and THREE OF THEM ARE WOMEN. I may be fandom-hyperventilating.

Even if this isnt the cast we end up with, wow. Just that it's being pitched makes me happy.

Not just woman BUT WOMEN WHO CLEARLY HAVE ACTIVE ROLES IN THE NARRATIVE.

I cannot get over the femininely named Athena Rice being "the Calvary."

Especially given Kara Thrace and the Calvary reference in the Buffy comic Fray.

I honestly normally set my expectations very low for this sort of thing...but just this once I choose to be hopeful.

Which
now that I think about it
sounds suspiciously optimistic...

I found my excitement for Avengers a worrying sign; look how that turned out!

It's true. I honestly thought there was no way they could pull off Avengers.

It's a Joss Whedon tvshow I expect it to be heavy on feminism. I have issues with Joss's feminism and the way every villain of his has to be misogynist (cough mewlingquim cough) but he gets lots more things right than he gets wrong.

Edited: tv show, I mean, not movie.

Agreed. No storyteller is perfect but Joss tends to get the things closest to my heart right - and those are the things the majority of storytellers get wrong.

I was just looking at images of Black Widow from IM:2 and Avengers* and she looks so different in both of them. The first one, she has longer curler hair and more "sexy" makeup. In the second, she's is still sexy redhead, but her hair is short and more wavy than curly. Interesting. I wonder who was behind those changes. :)

*brought about by the image in this post of yours. It took me about 5 seconds to realize that it was Scarlett Jo as Black Widow, and not a cosplay. That's how different she looked in both films (to me, anyway).

I realize Variety is fairly reputable... but for my own sanity, I'm really trying not to get invested in the idea.

I'm sorry, wrong thread, but - haven't they already cast a love interest for Captain America vis a vis the Winter Soldier?

/wishful thinking>

I will never stop hoping for that Black Widow movie, never.

You are certainly not the first to say it.

Same.
