City Etiquette

I want to write a Darcy/Steve fic for my 'romance' homebrewbingo square and I need some guidence from my big-city peeps.

When the girl you are having sex with is catching the subway very late at night back to her apartment, what is the standard etiquette? Do you want her to the platform? Wait for the train with her? I'm imagining that Steve would wait and see her onto the train, checking that Darcy has her taser and her cell - maybe request that she call him to make sure she's back safe?

Basically, I want to walk the line between Steve being Steve, with his 1940's manners but also respecting that Darcy can take care of herself and make her own choices about her safety.

Thoughts?

*nods*

One of the reasons I asked is that I originally envisioned Steve just flat out insisting on walking her all the way to her apartment door and then I realized that that come off not a concerned and gentlemany, but as a controlling ass. Which Steve is not.

Waiting to see her on the train, on the other hand, shows both reasonable concern for her safety AND as you mentioned, gives the impression that more time with Darcy is always good.

Yeah I would definitely wait for the train to come and see her off. I think it's the same for making sure people unlock their doors and get inside them before driving off after dropping people off.

I def think it's in character for steven to wait for the train with her. (perhaps with a cheeky "what? who said anything about protecting you, I'm protecting the innocent by-standards from your taser" but that might be a little much for steve?)

...That actually sounds more like something Clint would say. Steve would probably focus more one how even a couple extra minutes with Darcy is excellent.

it really does sound like something clint would say =/ my brain apparently only has Clint mode (and now a series of drabbles: Operation Escort: See Ms Lewis to the train station and the various avengers and how they completely this mission)

Can you imagine what happens when Nat walks Darcy to the station? And someone tries to mug them?

I don't think it's too clingy or unreasonable? But it does depend on the specific circumstances and the people involved.

I think Steve would definitely make sure he was with her at least that far. Like, I feel like he'd want to go further, because he's seen some bad stuff and he knows what it looks like when people get hurt, but he'd pull back and reassure himself that she'll be okay. It's not Steve if he isn't worried.

I don't see Darcy being with many other guys who were that considerate though, so that's another element to it.

Oh, totally agreed. Like, I think it would super unusual for to have someone paying that close attention to her safety.

It would make sense that he would walk her to the train station and wait until she boarded. For safety and a few last minutes with her, probably would kiss her until the door closes on them. I get my friends to call or text me that they've gotten home even if they were the ones dropping me home if it's really late cuz I want to know they're safe. I think Steve would want to but might because he's still trying to figure out the boundaries of this century. Darcy would call/text because she picked up on his concern and she might roll her eyes a little at that but she would appreciate that he cares about her. And then they'd totally have a cute conversation before they fall asleep. Or she'd call him half way home while on the train to make sure no one accosted him on his walk home from dropping her off at the train station. :OP
