Questions Designed To Make You Hate Me

1. What OTPs in your fandom(s) do you just not get?

Any pairing that involves two (or more) penises. I know, I know, that is as subjective an opinion as my feelings about coconut (worst flavor on the planet) and about as much fun to discuss (coconut is the flavor of the devil, people).

2. Are there any popular fandom OTPs you only BroTP?

Cara/Kahlan. Trust me, I see the subtext, I totally get where people are coming from with this pairing. In just about any other situation I would
be all over the hot, fierce ladies and their classic kind warrior/broken bird dynamic and rooting for them to have epically sexy sex… but I just want them to be friends and hang out and kill people together, while Kahlan sexes up her Seeker and ends up having little badass confessor-daughters with him.

3. Any fandoms that don’t appeal to you?

Hmmmm. There are shows/movies/books that I don’t feel the need to seek out fanfics for but if a narrative makes me feel fannish and there's a fandom, I'll participate. And frankly, I've had some good luck and good experiences even with NOTORIOUSLY psychotic fandoms.

4. Have you ever unfollowed/unfriended someone? Why?

HAVE I EVER. I have unfollowed people because our fandoms diverged, I’ve unfollowed people because I stopped enjoying the content that they posted, I’ve unfollowed people because I discovered that I didn’t like them very much, I’ve unfollowed people because my flist was getting unreadable, I’ve unfollowed people because they unfollowed me first.

For me, this questions was a little bit like, ‘do you breath air?’ Yes, of course, who doesn’t?

5. Do you have a NO!TP in [insert fandom here]?

I have many, many NO!TPs. (I’m defining this as the very idea of the ship makes me go ‘NO!’)

-Clint/Loki.

-Natasha/Loki. (I do ship Natasha/Clint fucking on Loki’s bloody, dismembered corpse. Or just murdering the fuck out of him and then having celebratory sex in the backseat of the getaway car.)

-Tony/anyone but Pepper. (If Pepper want to hook up with Steve or Natasha or Darcy or even some really fucked up dark!fic with Obediah, I'd be there.)

-Aang/Katara (FOREVER BITTER. Seriously, my mom recently found out that Legend of Korra existed and she was like, ‘do you want to watch that?’ And I went, ‘I’ll watch that when I stop being angry about the ending of Avatar.’ Nobody hold their breath on that score.)

-Andy/April – ugh, why would you pair an awesome, deadpan girl like April with a moronic waste of space like Andy!

-Veronica Mars/Duncan Kane.

-Blair Waldorf/Chuck Bass.

-Any variation of Elena/Damon/Stefan.

-Caroline Forbes/Matt Donovan.

-Regina/Charming.

-M'gann/Lagaan.

Aaron Cross/Eric Byer.

6. Has fandom ever ruined a pairing for you?

It's more often the writers ruining a ship for me.

7. Is there anything you used to like, but now can’t stand?

Naruto. Like, I was never under any illusions that the manga/anime was good - I was always just there for the fanworks, but I was undeniably READING the manga and at a certain point I reached my ‘this is bullshit storytelling' threshold and peaced the hell out. I also stopped reading Soul Eater. There was no big break up or anything like that – I just stopped caring enough to hunt down the next month’s scanlation.

8. Unpopular opinion about [insert fandom here]?

I can't think of any off the top of my head. Suggestions are welcome, though!

9. Have you received anon hate? What about?

No, I’ve yet to receive fan hate, therby solidifying my ‘no name’ fan status. I have had a ‘discussion’ that the person I was discussing the
subject with felt the need to delete my comments. I really wish I had screen caps, because I would have have LOVED proof that I was strictly
offering concrit about her fic and was in fact refusing to make it personal and comment about her husband his relationship with their child, which she kept insisting that I was.

10. Any fandom you’re ashamed of being in?

Avatar.

You know in the second episode of Green Lantern when Razer is like, ‘In my heart I am guilty of murder’? That’s how I feel about Avatar fandom. I don’t think I was ACTUALLY an obnoxious, overly passionate fan (okay, I was a little obnoxious and over passionate) but in my heart, I was REALLY obnoxious and over-passionate.

I really love Avatar as a show and I'm hugely grateful for its existence and the fanworks it inspired because it came to me at a time in my life when I absolutely needed it, but.... in my heart I'm guilty of being a bratty fan about the show and Katara/Zuko.

Andy/April – ugh, why would you pair an awesome, deadpan girl like April with a moronic waste of space like Andy!

Ha! I feel ya. Earlier this season when she was mostly isolated in D.C. with Ben it was like a really harsh reminder of how much I actually LOVE April. I'd forgotten. Because I can't stand Andy and her stories usually involve him. Lol.

I know! I love when April actually has storylines with Leslie for the same reason (and I really miss her and Ron interacting.)

-Regina/Charming.

This...is a thing?

I received my first anon message last week! I wouldn't call it hate even though we were disagreeing but it was definitely a milestone.

It's a thing that makes me very sad for Regina.

It is.

The thing about Avatar is, I don't ship anyone with anyone in a 4EVER way except Suki/Sokka. Because these characters are 12-16, and the thing is, most people have no idea what the hell they really want in a life partner at 12-16. At least in my experience, it involves a process of meeting different people and going ". . . okay, not that." The show is depicting people who will have interesting, complicated lives, and the next few years will be pretty busy with little to no time for romance. Zuko's gonna be busy running the fire nation, Aang's gonna be doing Avatar stuff, Katara will probably end up in some kind of diplomatic role because it's a world recovering from war and there'll be a lot of shit to be done. If someone writes a fic where Katara hooks up with Zuko or Aang or Toph ten years down the road when they're older and wiser and things have calmed down, I can buy it. But in my heart of hearts, she hooks up with some dude from the northern water tribe who respects the hell out of her and is cool with her being a better bender than him. He stays home and takes care of the kids while she's on diplomatic assignments and being badass.

Though if she had to hook up with someone she met in the show, then Zuko all the way. It -- the ep where he helped track down her mother's killer? That's what sold it. Zuko understands what Katara was going through like Aang never will. Aang doesn't grok the need for vengeance, he doesn't know that Katara couldn't just let it go from a distance. You need to be able to look the bastard in the eye, know you CAN take your revenge, and then decide then and there if you will.

Suki and Sokka, there's no question on because they'll announce their engagement 30 minutes after Gran-gran finds out they were sharing a tent (only that long so Sokka has time to carve something).

I'm so, so sad that this did not happen in Legend of Korra because that headcanon is awesome. I love Zuko/Katara but I can totally see myself being happy with that scenario. Why Bryke would think Katara would stay at home with the kids I'm assuming while Aang was going after a bloodbender boggles my mind. Surely she'd be the first one down at the courthouse putting that douce in his place?

TSR is pretty much the episode that sold Zuko/Katara to a lot of people. Team work , being supportive and understanding to one another are some of the key ingredients to true love.

Wasn't he making her a necklace in The Southern Raiders episode? :3

In my head? Dude's a solid bender in his own right, was one of the first guys to sign up for the healing classes when they were opened to men, and -- because dissatisfaction with gender roles works both ways -- has always dreamed of being a stay-at-home dad. He's just happy to have a wife who's cool with that, so he'll be just fine with Katara being Katara.

Aaah, been a while since I saw the show. Make that 30 minutes for Sokka to finish the necklace, then.

Would it be wrong to ship your character and Katara? He sounds like a catch and that would be my ideal post-war series scenario for Katara, next to ruling the Fire Nation with Zuko because she'd make an excellent queen.

[identity profile] fairest1.livejournal.com 2013-02-21 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Ship away. He only exists in random snippets of awesomeness in my head. I wish he'd flesh out enough for me to write a fic. It's only bits like:
"Ha ha, your wife can kick your butt!"
"She can kick your butt, too. And she's given me enough bending tips that I can kick your butt. What's your point?"
". . . taunt withdrawn."
*dude returns to playing with his kids*

[identity profile] phemyscira.livejournal.com 2013-02-22 08:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Adorable snippets are enough for me, though I hope he does flesh himself out at some point.

WHAT? WHAT? WHAT THE FUCKING FUCK? Seriously, the writers went there? Fuck that is one of the many reasons I don't want to watch Korra.

There is not fucking way Aang could handle a blood bender, while Katara is MADE for that shit.

[identity profile] phemyscira.livejournal.com 2013-02-21 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Not the writers, Bryke. Bryke wrote all the episodes for this series, which pretty much confirms 1) they aren't good romance writers 2) they're not as strong feminists as they probably think they are (there are parts of LOK that would make any feminist angry, particularly in relation to how the romantic subplot was handled).

Actually, Aang kind of pulls another deux ex machina at the end of that episode which pretty much cockblocks bloodbending when he goes into the Avatar State. I don't know HOW that works, but they didn't really explain how Amon took other people's bending away either so I won't try to explain Bryke's logic. This is why I said I wouldn't recommend LOK to any of my friends because if you thought the ATLA finale was bad, then the plot holes in LOK will blow your mind and not in the good way.

Okay, yeah, I can already tell I'm not going to like LOK.

[identity profile] phemyscira.livejournal.com 2013-02-22 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)
No. That's why I wouldn't recommend LOK to anyone without warning them about the really, really shitty parts of it. Don't get me wrong, there were some episodes I genuinely enjoyed but this show confirmed my beliefs that Bryke should only be allowed to build worlds and stop there.

This is why I stay in my corner of the LOK fandom to:

1) Laugh at Bryke's writing skills. One of the good things that came out of LOK is that it's now somewhat acceptable to criticise Bryke if you move in the right circles.

2) Read Tahnorra smut. It's never gonna be canon and I'm totally okay with that as long as there's smut.

3) Fangirl over Asami like there's no tomorrow. Seriously, the fans love her more than the show apparently does.

And since world building is my least favorite part, I am going to give this show a pass.

I wish the writers agreed with you. I really wish that they didn't explicitly state in the sequel show that Aang and Katara had babies together.

Though if she had to hook up with someone she met in the show, then Zuko all the way. It -- the ep where he helped track down her mother's killer? That's what sold it. So agreed. I loved how that episode showed how similar and how well Zuko understood Katara, and what Katara would and wouldn't do.

[identity profile] fairest1.livejournal.com 2013-02-21 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Can we pretend Aang and Katara just raised children together instead? I mean, they're good friends -- I'm not going to question the idea of them being lifelong friends -- so maybe they decided to platonicaly coparent after a mutual tragedy or something?

though wait, no. I see them ending up leaving the kids with Sokka most of the time. Sokka seems most inclined to be a stay-at-home parent of the cast, being able to teach 'em sword-fighting and arts and crafts.

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2013-02-22 08:17 am (UTC)(link)
Sokka would be the BEST stay at home dad.

1. The exact same!

Later on...Regina/Charming? I was surprised, somehow. Then I went to your Tumblr and saw people ship Emma with Rumplestiltskin! Both times, I knew I shouldn't have been surprised. It's not a fandom I'm in much. Maybe that's a good thing.

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2013-02-21 08:04 am (UTC)(link)
What kills me is how badly Regina/Charming is going to end for Regina. That girl has enough heartbreak!

Have I ever told you that I love that you don't care for male/male? Personally I like male/male PWP but anything romantic bores the crap outta me. It makes me really sad that it's more prevalent than female/female relationships (even just gen). Well not everyone can be as cool as us I guess.

I feel like I always say the same thing in response to when you talk about Avatar. Basically I commiserate. You're lucky you weren't around Korra fandom for the first season with Bryke acting like douchebags and writing terrible romance part 9000. Next season might be a good time to come on board though because they hired writers and are going to focus on what they're good at (world building). Reuniting with fandom (after the great ship wars lol) over a mutual hatred for anything involving Shamalamadingdong's "movie" helped me move past some of my bitterness and so I was able to enjoy Korra (oh god Red you're going to love her!) and rewatch Avatar. Just keep in mind that the romances in season one are god awful. Korra and Lin (Toph's daughter--squee!) are fucking awesome and the conflict/villain is very interesting.

Also I don't ship Tony with anyone else either (and agree Pepper is allowed to date other people sometimes). :p

Random question! Have you watched/do you like the Kill Bill movies? I rewatched them this week and was chuckling over the fact that I generally don't like revenge narratives but I love Tarantino movies and so I thought of you because I know you like revenge narratives (maybe not Tarantino ones though IDK).

I concur with everything mistaria just said. LOK was somewhat enjoyable but it definitely has its flaws. I wouldn't recommend it to any of my friends or acquaintances until I see what the writers (Thank God Bryke are bringing them back!) do with the show in season 2.

I think so, but I never get tired of hearing it. And I'm the opposite of you - there have been a handle of fics written by authors that I love that I've read even thought they're slash, and there's always a point where I'm like, 'ooh, excellently written interactions, excellently written interactions.... blah, blah, boys kissing, I'll skim that part.'

TRUE STORY, two days before I got your question, I had just watched the second half of Deathproof.

Oh, Tarantino. I have such mixed feeling about him. On one hand, his movies are so violent that they are hard for me to watch. On the other, he is such a fucking effective storyteller. I watched Kill Bill and remember being almost shell-shocked from the violence of it (I was early to mid teens, at that point) and not wanting to watch the sequel… but being so invested in the story that I couldn’t not watch volume 2.

And as much as I find the first half of Deathproof deeply, deeply, disturbing and uncomfortable to watch, I cannot stress how much I enjoy the lead-up to playing masthead and then the cathartic and so justified murder of the villain at the end.

[identity profile] mistaria.livejournal.com 2013-03-19 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
Best icon ever.

Haha I totally agree about Death Proof. Watching the villain act like a little whiny baby after the shit he pulled in the first half and watching the girls take him down is very satisfying.

Didn't know you didn't care for strong violence! I can't take violence against animals/children but I'm pretty desensitized to everything else (except for stuff like the rape in Girl w/ the Dragon Tattoo--but I appreciate that it was portrayed so horribly as opposed to something like the almost rape in Watchmen). I love Tarantino for his awesome ladies and his humor. He is a very effective story teller to the point where I'll see movies about topics I hate seeing movies about if he's made it and love it (like Inglorious Basterds and Django Unchained).

lol and probably the wrong place to put this but I loved Regina in last nights Once. Though I am sick to death of Henry just walking away from Regina after she does what he wants. I want to do a victory frolic with her in the early days of Storybrooke and I want to pet her after she starts getting sick of it (even though she would bite me). Although the twist with the guy at the end felt stupid. Oh and I want her and Emma to be forced to be together for an extended period at the end of which I will push them together and say "now kiss!"

Thanks, I really love it.

Didn't know you didn't care for strong violence!

Yeah, I love action films and such but with Tarantino, where there is so MUCH violence and it's SO sexualized (often), it can get hard to watch.

I am so behind on once it's not even funny.
