Okay, I'm going to tell you right now, this, the previous post, and the next post are all due to [livejournal.com profile] qualapec. Feel free to send her flowers.

So, over email [livejournal.com profile] qualapec asked me about what I thought Pepper was afraid of and what her nightmares are like.

Things that Pepper is afraid of:

-poverty (I see Pepper as someone who grew up either poor or working class and does not want to be in that socio-economic bracket ever again)

-Tony dying

-having Tony decide he doesn't really want to be in a relationship with her and having to run his company while he fucks around with younger, prettier girls while she pretends to be fine about it.

What Pepper has nightmares about:

-being in an important meeting/taking an important test and realizing she has no idea what the subject of the meeting/test is

-wearing shoes that keep getting smaller and smaller and that she can't get off, to the point where blood is staining the fabric of the shoes and puddling under her feet

-being lost in building and trying to call Tony over and over while he doesn't pick up.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, Natasha is afraid of three things: being unmade, the Hulk, and feelings. She tells herself that she doesn’t remember her nightmares.

Clint’s greatest fear is being not good enough, when it matters. Post-avengers, it’s about being controlled. He has a lot of nightmares about yelling and slamming doors and being small. Also some more army-standard ones about being under fire and the smell of oil fields burning. Also some about raping and killing Natasha on the helocarrier. Yeah, Clint’s doing his best to cultivate a case of insomnia.

I honestly don’t know what Steve’s deepest, darkest fear is. I know his nightmares are about Bucky falling and being back under the ice, only awake this time. The dreams where he’s dancing with Peggy are almost as bad.

Bruce’s greatest fear is that he’s his father’s son. I don’t know what his nightmares are like.

I’m drawing a blank on Thor, Tony, Jane, and my answers for Darcy would be so transparently mine, they’d verge on out-of-character.

Okay, so, flist, tell me about the other Avenger’s fears.

I imagine Thor has nightmares about being exiled/rejected by his dad again (...so many superheroes with daddy issues) and also NEEDING to pick up his hammer (to save Jane, Loki, somebody) and not being ABLE to.

(He also dreams about running out of coffee and Pop Tarts.)

Oh, definitely this.

And Bruce dreams of doing terrible things as the Hulk and not being able to stop it. And then he wakes up in the dark and for a while he's not completely certain it was only a dream.

...do you think sometimes Bruce wakes up post-Hulk and knows but gives himself a minute to pretend that it was just a nightmare?

Yeah... *sniffles for Bruce*
