MY SQUEE OVER THIS EPISODE CANNOT BE CONTAINED.

I had a wish that Irene would turn out to be Moriarty. I never expected to be right!

I had a wish that Irene would turn out to be Moriarty. I never expected to be right!

I considered this happening so far out of the realm of possibility it didn't even occur to me.

WELL DONE, SHOW!

I was flailing wildly very 15 minutes or so with ALL THE REVELATIONS. Awesome just doesn't cover it.

When Moriarity walked in in her badass leather with her killer Brit accent...

Jonny Lee Miller and his face!

And I loved Watson's quiet delight at the end.

I spent episodes assuming my need would be unfulfilled because when I hope for awesome things from a show that give women more weight, they don't happen. And then last night happened! (And CBS Puerto Rico cut off the ending so I spoiled myself to see if there was a mistake and then downloaded the episodes to watch the last ten minutes. >:| ) And everything I wanted came to pass, and Irene was Moriarty! And Watson was not a mascot, and she plotted with Holmes and took Irene down! (Temporarily I assume, but that makes things more potentially wonderful later anyway.)

This is the best new show I have seen in years. (As opposed to my having to go to older shows to get things I want. Like Xena.)

'Art forger' was what I was hoping for. 'Just have Irene be an art forger,' I said. 'Just have her be in cahoots with Moriatry willingly.'

LITTLE DID I KNOW how the show was going to blow past my expectations in such a beautiful, beautiful way.

It's only a couple years old, but have you watched Legend of the Seeker? Because if you liked Xena, I think there is a strong chance you would like that show.

I like Xena and mentioned it because of the extreme focus on female characters and their relationships with each other. Other things too, but that is what keeps me watching. I went into Elementary knowing it would not be like that (and knowing I didn't care about the books), but Watson being Lucy Liu made me interested and it's very pleasing with its depictions anyway. How is Legend of the Seeker on these things?

Pretty damn good. In season one, the main female mostly interacts with the two dudes she's traveling with, but she's consistently badass, and the world itself, has a lot of ladies running around it. And then season two adds a second female lead who YOU THINK is going to be the 'bad girl' leg of a love triangle BUT REALLY the the main emotional arc of the second season is the two leads becoming BFFs.

I will try it! I need more shows with female friendships.

That quote pretty much made the episode.

Also, your gif, I cannot stop staring at it.

It's totally hypnotic.

That quote pretty much made the episode.

That quote is 90% of what I love in storytelling.

Irene is better than Holmes BUT SHE ISN'T BETTER THAN JOAN
Saturday, May 18th, 2013 01:43 am (UTC)
SHERLOCK IS FULLY COGNIZANT OF THIS AND LIKES IT.
Saturday, May 18th, 2013 09:06 pm (UTC)
I saw this post before I saw the eps and thought it was more hopeful speculation.

Even then, my mind was BLOWN.

I am SO UNBELIEVABLY HAPPY RIGHT NOW.

Right? This show is so awesome.
Saturday, May 18th, 2013 11:14 pm (UTC)
I'm in loveeeeeeeee.

I just watched it. That finale was everything I've ever wanted, in so many ways. I kind of can't believe it happened.

This show is SUCH a gift! Ahhhh! Just watched the last ep and I was squeeing so hard. I tweeted: " Irene in RDJ movies: dead, Irene in #sherlock: dominatrix, Irene in #elementary: the master. #frakyeah" :D
Monday, June 17th, 2013 06:45 am (UTC)
Side note: I actually initially was excited about Irene as a dominatrix because I thought it was a great modern update, and had some of the connotations that actress did in Victorian England... the MASSIVE problem with Sherlock's Irene was that she LOST TO SHERLOCK.

STILL BITTER ABOUT THAT.
