I was just lamenting with
backtothesea about the fact that I don’t have a television show that’s my fannish sweet spot.
Here is the way the television landscape lies:
Arrow: I watched four episodes, didn’t love it, may give it another try. One the one hand, the lead is really hot. On the other, they did an absolutely insulting job with Dinah Laurel Lance.
Elementary: this show is a gift. Such a gift, that the canon and people’s escatic tags on tumblr fulfill my entire fannish needs. …although I would never say no to more BDSM-y fanfics of Joan and Sherlock.
Game of Thrones: It’s hard for me to interact fannishly with this show the way I do others because I basically know what’s going to happen, so it’s hard for me to get super-invested. It takes a lot of the drama out. I’m hoping that next season, when we start to get to more narratives that diverge from the book and more storylines that I’m not spoiled for, I’ll get more invested. (It doesn’t help that I feel like only now, three seasons in, are we getting to the meat of the narrative.)
Nikita: I enjoy watching this, especially when I’m marathoning it, but I don’t have any unmet fannish needs. The perils of shipping canon and being a season and a half behind.
Once Upon A Time: still haven’t watched the last episode. Needless to say, I’m unlikely to be watching season three.
Teen Wolf: I love this show but LJ fandom is pretty non-existent, so my fannish experience is basically reblogging all the transformative fierce lady graphics.
Prospective TV for the 2013/14 season:
SHIELD
Sleepy Hollow
more Nikita?

first, not being familiar with DC, I went into it with no concept of who Laurel is or would potentially become, other than what the show gave me to work with. (I was also very very confused about references to her in re: the Black Canary because my only experience with *that* character was Birds of Prey - see again, not a DC girl growing up, so clueless.) Nothing about the show thus far has made me like or care about Laurel, unfortunately, although I'm always open to them doing something to change that opinion (and I totally agree recasting would only help).
second, the only reason I made it through the first half of season one was because I stayed in the room while my husband was watching the show, for the very shallow reason of appreciating Oliver's arms and abs (and hell, Diggle's too for that matter).
Then I fell head-over-heels in love with Felicity Smoak and have never looked back. I <3 her to pieces, I 'ship her and Oliver to death, and she's quickly rocketed to the top of my "Awesome women are awesome" list.

Yeah, I kind of quit TVD in a disgust about a year ago.
Teen Wolf I ADORE but I dislike tumblr fandom and I don't even know where to find Teen Wolf fandom on LJ /o\
I don't think there really is one? I feel like all the cool people who are into Teen Wolf are on tumblr.

Once Upon a Time makes me sad, thinking of the hopes I had last summer. It really depends on how I am when it airs, but I probably won't watch season three either.
I intend to watch Elementary, My Little Pony, Bob's Burgers if I catch up with season three in time, and to keep on with Pretty Little Liars. Will try Meghan Ory's and Sarah Michelle Gellar's new shows.
...That's actually a lot of tv for me.

I've heard only good things about Pretty Little Liars.

Pretty Little Liars! There for the female characters. It's not a perfect show, and it's got too much drama/suspense for my personal tastes (near-constant tension), but I love those friendships and the other kinds of relationships all the female characters have. Three full seasons without men taking over the narrative.

I always (metaphorically) bite my tongue when people talk about continuing to watch shows that they aren’t enjoying as much. I’m notorious to one of my friends for quitting shows in the second season (aka when they start to suck) but I’ve dragged myself through enough things I didn’t enjoy, hate-watching all the way.
That said… I highly, highly doubt season three is going to be better.

On that subject, I totally agree about Felicity. She brings this vibrancy to every scene she’s in that FANTASTIC and much needed and her and Oliver are adorable. I’ve been reading some Felicity/Oliver over the past week and that is DEFINTELY a ship I’m in favor of.

Have you read any of the stuff Frea O's been writing that's Felicity & Natasha?

YES. They were delightful. (There are just the two, right?)

I just got caught up with this show. I remember thinking it was dumb when the show started and I watched the pilot, and I still haven't entirely given up that assessment (omg the fight scenes are just...WHY UNIVERSE, WHY) but I love the character growth and the awesome ladies. I actually started ficcing it this season which meant finally opening an AO3 account. (http://archiveofourown.org/users/rashaka/pseuds/rashaka)
If you ever want to talk about it, I'm there.
...I can't wait for SHIELD and Sleepy Hollow omg.

I know, right?
And while I really liked the most recent episodes, and USUALLY like non-linear episodes, I hated the non-linear stuff in the last episode; it was so clear that they didn't have an action climax if they told the story sequentially (although I would argue that Allison's scene with her mother would have been an exquisite climax) so they chopped it all up.

I might start posting episode reviews again, then!

Yes. Although I've been loving season 3 in general, this was one of the poorest episodes of the series. The action sequences were too slow and lacked any dramatic content. Even the set-up of the battle was painfully simplistic. I also thought the editing of the non-linear stuff was sloppy. It's too bad, in a way, because everything that happened in the bus and everything that happened in the rest stop was good, fun writing. Allison's surgery scene was phenomenal (her mother scares me) and Scott's subplot was good, as was the fist-fight with Isaac. I just wish the other half of the episode hadn't been so terrible.

Agreed.

And I think she's written about 4 or 5 now?
