I've been rewatching Xena. I watched some of the later seasons when I was a kid, but I never realized how much of Xena's redemption I missed by skipping the first season. Like, I feel like they did something with Xena that I haven't seen in any show before or since. They really made her into the kind of epic hero we read about in mythology; and I love that she's a feminist symbol whose pain and growth aren't gender-specific but mean so much more because women aren't given those stories.

Slow clap. Also did you see the comment (I think it was on tumblr) about how Xena wasn't moving through the world as the sole female? That there were other epic female heroes and villains as well? Because that was a great point, and so true. More female villains with the same dynamics as male villains!
I was not. I looked him up based on this comment though, and from what I read, I am not a fan. He's no William Carlos William, able to elevate the mundane to the divine, imho.
