gacked from [livejournal.com profile] stainofmylove:

Ask me a fandom-related question in the comments. Ask me two, three, four, five questions, go nuts, tbh. I'll talk about fandom stuff, character stuff, ship stuff, give recs, talk about fic writing, livejournal, tumblr, memes, icons, music, movies, books, kinks, whatever. Questions can be as wacky as you want. Whatever you want. Dream big, dream strange.

Do you like tattoos on guys? I blame your Oliver icon ;)
Friday, September 27th, 2013 08:07 am (UTC)
Typically I don't. When I do, it's because there is just ONE, discreet, tattoo. (Like Oliver's.) I am not a fan of huge, body covering tats. Less is SO more with that.

Tell me about your favorite Oliver/Felicity scene and why you love it (I don't mind being spoiled!)

Tell me what your hopes are for them in S2! :D

Tell me what your hopes are for them in S2! :D

From a shipping point of view, I want to be sold on Oliver being into Felicity. If that is not possible, I'd like Felicity to have a really nice romantic plot with someone else (who is 100% hot).

Top five villainesses/bad girls?
Friday, September 27th, 2013 08:06 am (UTC)
I defined this as ‘actually villainess ladies’ because otherwise it would be list of my favorite bad girls who had a redemption arc or just needed someone to stick by them, etc, etc.

Irene Adler/Moriarty
Huntress (strictly on Arrow – in the comics she’s clearly on the side of the angels.)
Kate Argent
Lust, from the original FMA anime.
Queen Ravenna, from Snow White & The Huntsman
Friday, September 27th, 2013 05:37 pm (UTC)
Ooh, I still haven't seen Snow White and the Huntsman. Is it good?
Saturday, September 28th, 2013 10:54 am (UTC)
It’s beautiful, Charleze Theron does an amazing job as the evil queen, but no, it is not good (http://redbrunja.livejournal.com/754911.html).

You asked for strange, so...

The LBD cast (in character) as superheroes - or villains.

How would that work? Who would be the leader? What powers would they have? Names?

Would they be open about their alter egos or have a secret identity?
Friday, September 27th, 2013 08:04 am (UTC)
Lizzie would basically have Black Canary’s powers, Jane would be that universe’s version of Etta Mode, Lydia would be the perennial damsel in distress that Lizzie rescues. Lizzie would THINK that Darcy is her universe’s version of Lex Luthor, but really he’s a decent guy, and in the end, they team up together to take down George Wickham, who has mind control powers.
Friday, September 27th, 2013 12:13 pm (UTC)
Dammit, now I want someone to write a fic where they're all secretly superheroes, but apart from the Bennet sisters - and Charlotte, who could maybe rock some sort of Oracle persona - no one is aware of their daylight alter egos, so while the Bennets are Birds of Prey-ing it on the rooftops, Lizzie's super self meets a masked Darcy and they get their flirt on, unaware that they claim to loathe each other by day.

Meanwhile, Wick-the-Dick shows up and insinuates himself into the girls' everyday lives. Lizzie and Jane are too busy to waste their time on sleazy guys (especially with the promise of clandestine rooftop rendezvous in Lizzie's future), leaving GW disgruntled and pouty that no one is paying him the attention he feels he deserves, so he goes after Lydia in retaliation, thinking she'll be an easy conquest.

However, Lydia may seem like a flake, but she's stronger than anyone gives her credit for. She's always been the baby of the team and while she has her own ability, she's never quite figured out how to use it effectively, so she's struggling to reach her potential and resents her sisters a little because of that. GW comes along and is surprised to find that she's more of a challenge than he bargained for, so he slowly uses his powers to subvert her to his will. At home, everyone is so busy with their own lives that no one seems to notice the changes in her, until she goes missing.

After that there's a whole scramble to find her, with the assistance of the newly unmasked Darcy, and when they do catch up to them, Lydia appears to be completely under GW's control. Lizzie and Jane turn the tables on him by using their sisterly bond to remind Lydia how much they value her and empathically override the coercion, at which point Lydia kills the dastardly Wickham, reclaiming her own power. Sisterhood is reaffirmed, Lydia and Jane leave, and Lizzie and Darcy finally come clean about everything and engage in naughty things on the rooftop.

The End
Saturday, September 28th, 2013 11:40 am (UTC)

I love it. Also, I feel like the updated version of the 1st proposal scene in this would be something like, Darcy figures out that that Lizzie is Lizzie, while she still hasn’t made the link between Darcy and his superhero cover, so Darcy basically asks a leading question that leads to Lizzie running down the list of Darcy’s faults, and they start fighting, and Darcy breaks his cover, and they leave that conversation with their respective world-views shaken.

Lizzie and Darcy finally come clean about everything and engage in naughty things on the rooftop.

I am always down for this.
Sunday, September 29th, 2013 12:38 am (UTC)
Maybe Lydia wouldn't kill him. She's supposed to be a superhero after all.

Perhaps castration would suffice as an alternative option. Or, would falling off the rooftop (maybe with a little help) and ending up paralysed be too cliché?

Also, in the lead up to the climax, it could follow the original story, where Lizzie tells Darcy that Wickham has Lydia, and when he leaves she thinks that he's walked out of her life forever, but he really uses his knowledge of GW's sordid habits to locate Lydia, who refuses to leave with him, at which point he would go to Lizzie and Jane.

But, an interesting twist could be that due to his stuffy and formal way of speech, when Darcy finds Lydia his secret identity is revealed, making her the only person ever to see through his disguise.

Most interesting supervillain character - in any medium?
Monday, September 23rd, 2013 12:39 am (UTC)
While I have a couple of quibbles (by which I mean, lines I would have cut or added) with Loki (and I'm not going to touch issues with his popularity or how some people fangirl him), I think he is a really well-drawn villain with a good, understandable emotional arc. Also, Tom Hiddleston is a fucking amazing actor.

Who is your favorite/most well done supervillain?
Monday, September 23rd, 2013 03:39 am (UTC)
I hate to do this, but I have to say Loki.

Though, to be fair, I naturally gravitate towards tricksters and antiheroes, and I read a lot of Norse myths when I was a kid.

He's so delightfully messed up; tragic, but he has fun with it.

And he's clever. That's always a plus.
Monday, September 23rd, 2013 03:51 am (UTC)
And he's clever. That's always a plus.

Nothing like a good quipper. Loki's line when Tony asks if he's afraid of lighting ("I'm not overly fond of what comes after.") is probably my favorite line of his.

Gender reversal -

If the Avengers team were made up of five girls and one guy, who would you cast as their gender-bending opposites?
Monday, September 23rd, 2013 12:34 am (UTC)
Oh, I'm so bad at this game! I feel like I don't know enough actors by name and/or have seen enough of their work to do this.
Monday, September 23rd, 2013 03:35 am (UTC)
I think Yvonne Strahovski (a.k.a. Sarah from Chuck) could make a decent Thor (and she's also Australian, like Chris Hemsworth, funnily enough.)

And Amanda Tapping would be interesting as Iron Man, though I'm not sure how she'd manage Tony's Stark.

Summer Glau could be Hawkeye.

Gina Torres would make a great female Nick Fury.

I don't think I've really thought this one through.

She would.

Summer Glau could be Hawkeye.

But she's so tiny! I would want someone with shoulders for that role.

And Amanda Tapping would be interesting as Iron Man, though I'm not sure how she'd manage Tony's Stark.

Honestly, I don't think she'd have the charisma for Tony Stark. I'd like to see Samantha Ferris read for that role. Maggie Q might also be a possibility.

Make up a story premise that includes the following elements -

Pre-WWII Europe

Well-written female protagonist

Well-written female villain

Spies

Steampunk

Archaeology

Travel using many different methods of transportation

And a twist - no tragic back story (for main characters, at least) - villains must be bad for other reasons, like they enjoy being evil sadists and embrace that part of their natures
Monday, September 23rd, 2013 12:33 am (UTC)
Okay, this would basically be a genderswapped Indiana Jones. The main character - let's call her Wyoming Smith - comes from a loving family who encouraged her interest in history and archeology. During her time at boarding school, she began a LesYay rivalry with anther girl, Vesper, that continues into adulthood. Their paths cross when Wyoming is tracking a stolen whatever that Vesper took from a museum. Wyoming chases Vesper across pre-WWII Egypt and Israel, accompanied by her plucky side-kick, Cute Translator Boy and Cut Translator Boy's faithful pet dog. Vesper stole the Whatever for the nazis, who try to kill her when she goes to hand it off and collect her paycheck. Wyoming arrives in the nick of time to save her, the two women steal back the Whatever, make out, and then Vesper escapes from Wyoming, to play Catwoman to Wyoming's Batman another day.

Roll credits.

Wyoming Smith!

*cackles gleefully* Oh, I so want to read a story with a character called Wyoming Smith. Did she used to have a cat named Wyoming and is her given name really Henrietta?

I think Whatever is spelled M-a-c-G-u-f-f-i-n.

That's a great story. When are you going to write it?

I believe that's the technical term for it. ^_^

Jason Todd x Stephanie Brown x Nicholas Gage.

Just roll with it. That was the first thing that came into my head.

How did Stephanie lose her virginity and what is her pov on the guys she used to "date"?

That makes a lot of sense for Stephanie.

and she wanted to get to the part where it felt good, where she could be right there with another person and not quite feel so alone. so she keeps seeing these guys who don't really see her when she's there with them and the sex gets better, sure, but she still feels so so alone.

Oh, poor baby girl.

now, she jokingly refers to this point in her life when asked in couched terms, as a "rebellious phase", but privately she can only be grateful that she no longer feels so lost within her own skin.

Yeah, she'd totally sugarcoat it if she was talking to people about it.

Okay, Steve and Tony are both going to haaaaaaattttttteeeeeee Bruce. Nat isn’t going to be a fan, either.

Cass is going to initially be wary of Natasha, because Natasha lies with her entire body, but then they are going to bond over being raised as a weapon and then practice ballet together. (Natasha is going to find Cass’s refusal to kill adorably naïve.)

Everyone loves Stephanie Brown, because how could you not love Stephanie Brown?

Darcy Lewis and Stephanie get along like a house on fire; they go out to tear up the town together and probably drag Jason along.

If anyone is having sex, it would be a Darcy and Stephanie and Jason threesome. (It was Darcy’s idea.)

Those are my thoughts. Anything to add?

I am down with Darcy Lewis and Dick Grayson hooking up, and I do see what you mean about Dick being more likely to have casual sex than Jason.

But please, please, please, tell me more about Jason not being into threesomes, because that is LITERALLY THE FIRST TIME I HAVE EVER HEARD ANYONE (BESIDES ME) EXPRESS THE OPINION THAT A CHARACTER WOULDN’T BE INTO A THREESOME, FULL STOP. (And honestly, I *personally* don’t find threesomes as sexy as most of fandom does, so I can’t always be sure my own opinions aren’t tainting my opinion of the characters.)

Jason and Nat team ups FOREVER! God, Nat would be SO GOOD for Jason. She’s wired so similarly to him, at a root level (re: reactions to child abuse and violence against woman) but she’s much saner than he is. I feel like Nat would just be an awesome grounding and also esteem-building person for Jason to interact with.

I read a fic once that had this really great line that was like, Jason doesn't know if he's ever been with anyone who was seeing him when they were together, where he wasn't the fill in second choice -- he just has so many insecurities about replacement and not being loved that I can't in any way see a threesome being a good, sexy experience for him, so much as it would be racked with "I'm never going to be good enough for anyone" feelings.

This is so perfect and so true that I want to engrave it in stone and dance around it under the light of the moon.

What do you want to see happen in Emma Approved? What do you absolutely not want to see?
Friday, September 27th, 2013 08:03 am (UTC)
To be honest… I am not sure I’m even going to be watching it. (Combination of having seen enough adaptations of Emma + not being a fan of the five minutes twice a week format). If I DO watch it, I hope I wait until the whole thing has been uploaded so I can watch it in a big gulp. (I recently rewatched almost the entirety of LBD over about three days, and watching at that speed helps smooth out some of the most irritating flaws of that series.)

You've said there are a couple lines you would have cut or added for Loki. I'm pretty sure I know which one you would have cut, but lines would you have added?
Friday, September 27th, 2013 08:02 am (UTC)

What I would have done is made a couple things that were hinted at more explicit:

-That Loki has a close relationship with his mother, that he went a little crazy falling through the abyss, and/or that the spear was influencing him. And just because I’m a shipper, I would have loved a one-one-on Sif/Loki scene.
Monday, September 23rd, 2013 06:54 am (UTC)
Do you have any good Stephanie/Jason recs?
Monday, September 23rd, 2013 09:05 am (UTC)
Basically, no.

The best stuff - the stuff that nails their characterization and touches on why they would be fantastic ship (imho) is either gen (http://redbrunja.livejournal.com/942874.html) or part of a story with a different ship (http://redbrunja.livejournal.com/938528.html).

At this point, it feels almost like a personal injury, because I think Jason Todd is hot as fuck and I would like to read some explicit Steph/Jason (or really, JASON WITH ANY LADY) but no, the a03 tag is a waste-land and tumblr is filled to the brim with excellently done Jason/Tim which leaves me so. cold.

That is hugely disappointing. ngl I ship JayTim pretty hard, but I'm offended whenever there's an active slash fandom but no het fandom for that same character.
Monday, September 23rd, 2013 03:09 pm (UTC)
This is one of those few situations where part of me really understands why there isn't any het, because Jason doesn't interact with women (that I've come across) in the way that he interacts with men - or at least, all the major players in his storyline are men (because he tragically never interacted with Steph), so it's not like it's a fair comparison.

But it still makes me sad.

What actress would play you in the movie of your life?
Friday, September 27th, 2013 06:14 am (UTC)
I feel like this is secretly a question about how vain I am (answer: moderately).

That said, I feel like the actress who plays Hayley on TVD would be a decent choice; we have similar coloring and are approximately the same age, and we have a similar face shape. I don’t know if she has blue eyes, though…
