I'm redoing my tags on for what fucking better be the last time regarding anything relating to dc comics. I wanted to add character specific tags for Damian (#the boy king), Jason Todd (#would you kill without mercy and if you wouldn't then how precious is your love?), and Dick (#the last flying grayson).

And here's how my thoughts went:

You know, if Dick had a kid, he wouldn't be the last flying grayson anymore.

And then I thought, 'no way, he's never going to have a kid.' (I realize that Dick has a kid in an alternate dimension, my gut reaction was still, 'no kid.') (Partially because Barbara is paralyzed, and there are increased risks with a pregnancy, although it's by no means impossible.)

And then I started thinking about non-biological families (my jam) and went, 'would Damian count as Dick's son?' (I haven't read enough of their comics to answer that question.)

And then I thought about Dick being the best uncle/big brother ever and how he's probably going to die in a couple issues, and I guess my question is:

do you think within 5-10 years there is going to be a hostile takeover of DC comics by its fans?

I like it.

he's just not very good at doing the dad thing (shocker SHOCKER)

Gasp! I am shocked by this development!

I couple of people have mentioned this, but I'm always wary of positing things when I haven't read/seen enough scans on tumblr.

Yes and I would love to be a part of this.

I can dibs on the Stephanie/Jason team-up line.

Dibs on Fables! The DC takeover includes Vertigo, right?

I have no problem with that. And lord know, SOMEONE needs to wrestle Fables away from Bill W.

My idea for how to handle the post-takeover transition: Since Sandman is, canonically, part of the DCverse(and meshes well with Fables), we can make It Was All Just A Dream into a universe-wide plot. Say, Daniel was fighting off some Big Bad, and as a result everyone had cracktastic, horrific dreams that seemed to last years. Maybe there's a crossover where he unites the dreamers to help take down the bad guy, maybe they just wake up and take a moment to realize that none of it happened. Couples wake up next to each other, parents go to check on their kids, Batwoman finds a message from the wedding planner confirming reservations on her answering machine . . . stuff like that. Casual conversation and appearances in the next few issues will confirm that dead characters are alive and stupider plot points never happened.

Sometimes I think I am reading comics backwards and that DC annoys me because I am just Doing It Wrong. Then I go to the comic store and overhear the girl who works there say things like "DC is really shooting itself in the foot right now," and I feel reassured.

I think Dick definitely did a lot to raise Damian but I don't exactly think of it as a father role? Kind of like Lilo and her sister in Lilo & Stich. (Actually I think I read fic about that once....)

Can I just say how delighted I am by 'girl who works at the comics store'?

And everyone hates what DC is doing. EVERYONE.

CUTE! Do you have a link?

That store has a ladies' night, too, although I've never been.

I know a lot of people hate it, I just can't ever quite shake the suspicion that I get mad at DC because I am fundamentally at odds with it. I suspect there are some people who really do only care about Batman and the Joker, or the next big crossover event, like DC does, and maybe those people are not so frustrated with it.

Sadly, I do not have a link. I think the idea was more memorable than the story itself.

Ugh, cross-overs. I realize that if everyone just stayed in their own titles you wouldn't get a lot of characters interacting who have cool interactions or fraught history, but DAMN do I hate cross overs. SO HARD TO KEEP TRACK OF. So frustrating to read!

I think the best way to read big event crossovers is to wait for the trade paperback that collects them. That way you don't have to hunt down all the issues.

...Or wait for some kind internet person to put them together in a zip with reading order attached.

Haha, either way, they're easier to read with all the pieces in one place. :P
