Today is going to be a day in which it would be really awesome to have fun fannish things to think about.

What are your feelings about roadtrip fic and why?
no subject
I think roadtrip fics can work for almost any fandom depending on:
1. Whether the author can justify said roadtrip, especially if the characters aren't in a setting where travelling is easy.
2. The universe the characters are in. Unless you're writing an AU, you'd have to do a lot to justify a 'fun' roadtrip for characters in a dangerous/apocalyptic world, unless that roadtrip had a specific goal/mission that the characters couldn't accomplish from the comfort of home.

All canon!
ETA: And I forgot Sharon Tyler! Okay, I'd probably swap out Lana or Santanna for Sharon.
Also, your questions: characters who the WRITERS might say are straight but do not present that way at all. I'm thinking of characters like Jess or Kate Bishop who are shown to have relationships with the opposite sex but also have moments where you go, 'okay, character you are not straight or at least not 100% straight.'

They are called Legion for they are many (this list is fairly small since I can only really remember the characters I'm thinking of right now, and most of those would be comics or MCU characters), and I wrote you a mini-essay. It's interesting, since I feel like I read a lot of my favorite characters as at least a bit queer. I'll also note that on this list there aren't that many examples of characters who the writers have actively claimed are straight so much as it's just implied by default.
Male characters:
Tony Stark - It's so weird. With Tony, in all his incarnations, I really just keep expecting him to flirt with guys at the same time he flirts with girls. He's very flamboyant, in not necessarily a queer-specific way, but it still ends up reading as queer to me, and I'm always surprised when it doesn't happen.
Loki - Same, which was actually partially validated recently when comics!Loki was announced as canon bi. In the MCU, I just read him as very sexual? And I think that sexuality and flirtatiousness translates onto both men and women. Does this really look like a character who is 100% straight? (http://qualapec.tumblr.com/post/65506687178/give-people-what-they-want-x)
Jason Todd (DC) - Biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii.
Will Graham - I feel like Will reads as someone who would have a relationship with anyone who could help him stay grounded. I think he's more attracted to the person than anything else.
Most of the main characters in Assassin's Creed - Mass Effect and Dragon Age have spoiled me in being able to choose what relationships my MCs in video games would have (m/m, f/m, or f/f all being options). Assassin's Creed is still a pretty dudebro series, and there's always a bit of a cognitive disconnect for me when their protagonists are not queer, especially the protagonist of the latest game, Black Flag. I cannot think of an easier character in the history of video games to make gay but was not.
I'm also not sure if this counts, but Cabal reads as asexual to me, even though he also largely reads as heteroromantic.
(EDIT: Oh god I wrote you a 2 part essay)

Faith - I can't remember the last time I saw that much foe yay. Faith is kind of in the same "sexual" category, and is very physical and flirty to the point that I can see it very naturally translated onto both men and women.
Christa (SNK) - her best friend (Ymir) is a canon lesbian, and while it's not clear whether Christa is actually into her or not, there is a lot of subtext between them.
Xena and Gabrielle - This is technically two. ON SCREEN KISS. And the years of loyalty and friendship and sexual tension. That's all I have to say.
Emma and Regina - Oh wait yes I can remember the last time I saw that much foe yay and it was Emma and Regina. Again, technically two, but they have so much chemistry and play off of each other so strongly that I am legit surprised that they are not canon.
Valkyrie (Marvel Comics) - She definitely reads as not 100% straight to me. There are always these quotes like "Women don't need men for pleasure; they can pleasure themselves just fine", and like, you can't get me to believe there have not been lesbian liaisons between the Valkyries. The same goes for Diana in the DCU, but I think that really depends on which writer is at the helm.
Sansa Stark - I just see her as only having sexual relationships and being close with girls.
Seconded on Kate! It has definitely been odd to me that we have, like, three (four, if you count Loki) queer characters on Young Avengers right now, but none of them are women.
I would also definitely second Jess. I would throw Carol in there, except I still haven't made up my mind about how I read her sexuality. It's weird, because there are some writers and artists who I think interpret her as really butch and others who interpret her otherwise. Like, during her and Jess' first appearance in Hickman's Avengers run, like, I legit thought they were going to start making out on-camera. In Captain Marvel, Carol seems pretty ace to me. I also have a hard time shipping Carol and Jess because of Jess' commitment issues.
There also are apparently conflicting internet reports as to whether Natasha Romanov (comics) is canon bi or not. While I also don't think sex is the most important part of her life anymore, I do read her as bi.

She's from Warehouse 13 and has the epic line, "I know quite a bit about the opposite sex. Many of my lovers were men." Which is forever my favorite 'i'm bi' announcement.
Very true. And given that Tony is Tony fucking Stark to a lot of tech people in a lot of ways, I feel like it's logical he'd just flirt with EVERYTHING, man, woman, robot.
Jason Todd (DC) - Biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii.
Yep. (My pet peeve - bi means he also is into girls, for fucks sake.)
Faith - I can't remember the last time I saw that much foe yay. Faith is kind of in the same "sexual" category, and is very physical and flirty to the point that I can see it very naturally translated onto both men and women.
Oh, HELL to the yes.
So much word on Gabriela and Xena and Emma and Regina.
Also, yes to Diana and Valkeryrie. People like sex, okay? I feel like when people have gender-segretated societies, more people are going to skew queer as a result. And Valeryrie TOTALLY reads a queer, in particular.
Like, during her and Jess' first appearance in Hickman's Avengers run, like, I legit thought they were going to start making out on-camera. In Captain Marvel, Carol seems pretty ace to me.
*nods* It was SO WEIRD to see her kissing that guy in the most recent issue.
