[livejournal.com profile] zahrawithaz  has a post on the arthurian legends and how they developed over the centuries that is hugely helpful.

I find it especially timely because I've been trying to remember where I got my ideas about these legends. I remember liking Guinevere prior to reading The Mists of Avalon (one of the major reasons I hated that book was Bradley's treatment of her), although Bradley's novel is first I can recall reading about the arthurian legends; it was shortly followed by Child of the Northern Spring and Queen of the Summer Stars, though I did not read the third book of that trilogy; one of the thick, famous, books about Merlin( ETA: okay so I asked my mom about this, and I read The Crystal Cave and The Hollow Hills and I have never read ); and I Am Morgan Le Fay and I Am Mordred).

Basically, I do not recall a time when I didn't know the basis of these legends.

[ETA: From quizzing my mom, I am pretty sure that at least half but probably more of my early exposure to these legends was her telling them to me.]

FYI: Normally, I'm really spoiler-phobic. However, with Merlin I have been reading summaries and rants and looking at gifs and watching vids, so basically as spoiled as yellow milk. So no need to be judicious about talking about episodes I haven't seen.

So, I've been trying to figure out who Morgana reminds me of, and I realized today who it was: Sasuke.

One of the things I wished people would pay attention to with Sasuke was the fact that he was not faithful to anyone: not his village, his teammates, or his teacher(s).
And whatever internal thing that Sasuke lacked, I think Morgana does as well.

Ah ha ha, oh, Arthur. You and Jeff Winger should have a douche-off. (Jeff would win, btw.) Also, Bradley James has a ridiculously square chin. It's attractive though. And he says Guineviere well. One point for the show is that you can ship anybody with anybody else. That's about the only thing the writers get points for.

And is it just me, or do the accents come and go a bit on this show?

Also, everyone should totally check out the vid Make Something Good. I love the sense of Arthur being something/someone that Gwen and Merlin are constructing.

(FYI, I watched 1.10 and 1.12 today.)

If I lost my mind and decided to watch some Merlin episodes so I could justify having icons from that show, which episodes would you recommend?

Note:

~I have a lot of second -hand knowledge about the show.

~While I know this show hates its ladies, I adore them, so episode with a heavy Morgana/Gwen/Morgause/girl with dark twisty hair is a plus.

~Episode that have those iconic images that keep showing up in vids.
