Okay, media update time.

In the area of books, I just finished Marissa Meyer's Cinder, which I loved. It’s a fantastic sci-fi retelling of Cinderella and it ends on a cliff-hanger that made me interested enough in the rest of the series to splurge and get the next two books from B&N.

I watched the first ten minutes of the most recent episode of SHIELD(which was entertaining enough – I am there for Simmons being adorably upset with blood on her forehead and I love wait-outside-hospital rooms scenes and what the physical positioning of people says about their characters) and then I got bored and watched Brooklyn Nine Nine. (I read a recap of the SHIELD episode this morning, so I’m all good to watch the next Sif-containing episode.)

I loved this week's Brooklyn Nine-Nine.The plotline with Holt made me want to play Kwazy Kupcakes and I adored everything about Jake and Amy's plotline. The writers are actually doing a really great job making me buy that Jake is (arguably unbeknownst to himself prior to this ep) kinda in love with Amy and I loved Jake deciding to take the training exercise seriously as a wooing tactic. While I loved the Roza/Boyle stuff AS RELATING TO THEIR FRIENDSHIP I am super unhappy about the fact that they're setting up a romance there. Reasons I don't like Rosa/Boyle:

  1. Charles was super Nice Guy (tm) with regards to Rosa. Sure, he's apologized (which was awesome) but having a romance retroactively taints that apology.

  2. I am morally opposed to hot girl/schlubby guy pairings.

  3. While some opposites you see making each other happy in a relationship (Luke/Lorelai, Felicity/Oliver, Middleman/Wendy) I honestly just think Rosa and Boyle would make each other miserable in a romantic relationship.

Arrow was actually pretty boring this week, imho.I spent most of the episode deciding whether I would want so-wrong-it's-hot Thea/Slade or Slade/Moira fic more. And fyi, fandom, while Ivo is 100% guilty of killing Shado, Oliver DID make the choice to throw himself in front of Sara. If he'd thrown himself in front of Shado, Ivo would have shot Sara instead. That said, I've hated everything they've done with Shado since she was tenderly smearing goop on Slade's face. If she's going to be around in anybody's hallucinations, she should be having Six/Gaius -esque conversations with Slade.

I read Hawkeye 15, which was SO overhyped, imho.Like, I didn’t fall off the turnip truck yesterday, there is no way they’re killing one of their two title characters, and I highly doubt they’re going to kill Barney without doing more with him first. I was more worried about Kate, considering that her father is somehow involved with the tracksuit draculas. It was lovely to see Jess again. JESSICA DREW! Go make out with your actually awesome superhero girlfriend!

On the subject of awesome queer ladies, I just watched the second episode of Bomb Girls. (My goal is to get caught up before the movie airs at the end of March.Betty and Kate were AMAZING. Betty is SO into Kate. The photography! The pictures!

And LORNA! You get it girl! That Italian studmuffin is totally into your tightly-strung, take-no-shit self. Damn, I can't believe they actually went there. I don't have anything to say about Gladys, although I do like her.

I COMPLETELY missed the implication that the writers were leading up to doing something with Clint's hearing. I thought that the were just going for the 'HE'S DEAD.... you believe us, right?' thing that writers will do sometimes.

but i am definitely concerned about kate and her father and the potential ramifications of that long game playing out. suddenly a lot of things make more sense but that's gonna have to blow up in a big way.

Same. Honestly, for the last couple of months, the stuff with Kate has been hands-down the best.

c'mon, is resurrection only for white boys? pffft.

Going by precedent, yes.

lmao becca and i have had this conversation so many times that i blogged about it on my tumblr once about how tragic it is to see great girls dating basic ass guys when great girls should just date other great girls, duh,

I'm down with that. So much better than endless examples of hot girls who end up dating below-their-original standards dudes.

and then someone reblogged it to ramble in defense of their favorite hot girl/schlubby guy white bread het pairing and it was just like. whoosh, the point, you missed it.

Yep, that person totally DID NOT GET IT. And you know that would be the kind of person who would scream bloody murder if a hot guy got with a schlubby girl.

I was so happy last week because I thought they were closing the door on this thing. Boyle even lampshaded it by explicitly apologizing to Rosa for his behavior! Then they pulled this move and I'm left with a sinking feeling, like, OH NO SHOW. You were doing so well. Whyyyy.

They are doing a pretty deft job with Jake/Amy, which I did not expect given how hard I rolled my eyes at the heavy-handed UST set-up in pilot. I still don't ship them ardently or anything, but I was expecting to cringe when they eventually went this route and instead, find myself surprisingly OK with it. Establishing a solid basis for their friendship first was a smart move.

Yep. They keep backing away from Rosa/Boyle and then hinting at it again. JUST LET IT DIE, NO ONE WANTS IT TO HAPPEN.

AMEN. Tired of the 'every man' getting super attractive ladies, ugh, when you never see that gender-reversed. Sure all the YA movies feature heroines who are SUPPOSEDLY Plain Janes, but that's never the case when casting them.

EX-fucking-ACTLY.

Why can't we have honestly NOT attractive - or not conventionally attractive women getting super hot guys? Because sexism, that's why.
