Cosplay Help

The situation:

My room is a disaster area, I have a million emails to answer and I open tomorrow. Upside, I finally have the chance to run errands. Downside, I have an hour to get everything organized for said errands tomorrow.

So, flist, your mission, should you choose to accept it.....

Link me to pictures of Karrin, with good images of her outfit. (I'm thinking she's a good candidate for thrift store cosplay.)

Also, does Rin from Black Cat have one, distinctive outfit, or it her recognizable piece of attire her heart necklace?

Does anyone know how to get good glasses that look like prescription but aren't? For reasonable prices?

Does anyone know of other red heads in anime? (Besides Gojyo)

Speaking of everyone's favorite kappa, does anyone have hints on where I can find leather/fake leather pants and coats should the thrift store fail me?

MY RINSLET!!!

Sorry, got distracted. (Actually, I don't remember anyone ever calling her Rin...it's usually Rins.

Anyway, for the most part, I think her "normal" clothing of choice is the sleeveless shirt and short shorts or skirts. (I get the general impression that that the country is a pretty hot place.) or anything else that's *cough* "flattering." (It so is...yet, so serves Other Purposes.)

Usually, she's wearing something along these lines:

Yeah, I think I can slut it up sufficently with what I have. ^_^

[identity profile] meganbmoore.livejournal.com 2008-07-22 03:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh. Yeah. "Slut it up" is pretty accurate. Honestly, I think she's one of the few characters who dress like that who I think it's because she's perfectly confident and secure in herself, and it's comfy and fun. (The anime, though, gives the look a more slutty bent than the manga, from what I've seen.)

Have you read any yet?

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2008-07-23 05:50 am (UTC)(link)
I think she's like Misato, in that while she does seem like she could just be fanservice girl, the way it's portrayed in the anime/manga puts her firmly in control.

And yes, I bought the first volume on impulse, and while Black Cat doesn't do much for me, Sven, Rinslet, and "Ivy" are awesome.

I love when Sven's all like, "i'm going after her" in the end of volume one.

[identity profile] meganbmoore.livejournal.com 2008-07-23 06:24 am (UTC)(link)
I assume by "Ivy" you mean Eve. She is my most precious darling deadpan badass moppet. Rinslet is incredibly comfortable in secure, both in her femininity and her lifestyle, and has no shame or hangups about either, and won't put up with being challenged about either. One of the appealing aspects of Train and Sven (and Janos, who shows up later) is that they don't see any reason to have hangups about it, either. She and Train like to snap at each other, but that's pretty much their bringing out each other's immaturity.

I'm blanking on Misato ATM.

Train isn't as immediately appealing as the other main characters, but he's grown on me pretty well. I don't like him as much as Eve, Sven, and Rinslet, but I like him a lot. The manga usually avoids overplaying his angst, which helps a lot, I think. It also helps that he and Eve bicker like kids a lot, and she always wins. (Train-after a bit-openly adores her and wants her affection, but she views him as competition for Daddy Sven's attention, and thus will never admit that she adores him in her special way.)

And here, let me rant a bit: Someone posted a lot of Black Cat icons today, the only ones I've seen(pretty decent ones, too), and the only female represented was dead before the series began and only appears in flashback. (I like her a lot, but come on...) There are also a couple pretty cool female characters who show up later.

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2008-09-21 08:19 am (UTC)(link)
Misato is from Neon Genis Evagelion.

And on the subject of icons, I'd love to see some for Rinslet.

I will have to see if I can find it to DL.

Any particular style of glasses? That might help narrow it down some.

And are you looking for male or female redheads, or just redheads in general? ;)

(Oooh, and does that last question mean you're back to thinking of a Gojyo cross-cosplay? If so, huzzah for more cute girl!Gojyos!)

While we're on the subject of cosplay, I don't suppose you or any of the cosplayers you know have ever done anything with liquid latex? I'm growing increasing obsessed with planning a Mononoke cosplay, and for the most part the clothes, wig, etc. would all be very easy to make or procure...but doing the no-face mask and making it look good, that could be tricky. I have some ideas involving stretch fabric and latex to give it more of a skinlike texture, but I've never actually worked with the stuff myself.

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2008-07-22 11:50 am (UTC)(link)
solace_adrift has a bunch of shots of her, below.

And I'm looking for redheads in general, preferably female, though.

And I was thinking of not doing cross play - but it really depends on how flat I can bind my chest, whether I look like girl!Gojyo or just Gojyo.

And I have no idea if anyone on my flist has done anything with liquid latex. I can ask if you want.

Ah, those look like a pretty basic cat-eye frame in plastic. You can quite probably find cheap reading glasses in a drugstore with much that shape -- just get the weakest prescription they have and look over them as much as possible. Or check eBay for cheap used pairs.

Redheads other than the kappa, preferably female? Well, hmmm, Rei from Dirty Pair, girl-form Ranma from Ranma 1/2, Yoko from 12 Kingdoms/Juuni Kokki, Ed from Cowboy Bebop, Aya from Weiss Kreusz (male, but girly-pretty), Touga from Revolutionary Girl Utena (ditto), Juri from the same series (drawn with orange hair, which I would tend to parse as a light red/strawberry blonde sort of shade on a real live human), Queen Beryl from Sailor Moon, Lina Inverse from Slayers, Ahiru from Princess Tutu, Ayame from Inuyasha, Houlan from Saiyuki Requiem and that other hanyou chick, whatsherface from Gunlock (great simple outfit!)...TV Tropes is bound to get you a ton more likely names.

And if you don't mind asking around, that'd be cool -- I'm sure you know a lot more active cosplayers than me. :)

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2008-07-23 06:01 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, good ideas. And I had no idea that there were so many redheads. And I'd forgotten all the chick hanyous.

And I posted a query about the liquid latex. Hopefully someone will bite.

Oh, there's bound to be tons more -- I just went with a bunch from series that I've followed myself or were big faves of friends. Hunt through TV Tropes or Wikipedia or something and I'm sure you'll find squillions more characters.

And thanks! *crosses fingers*

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2008-07-24 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
*crosses fingers too*

Also, I got your gift AND OH MY GOD! Both my mother and I were reading that porn for women and laughing hysterically. I adore that lip balm, and those stickers? So true. So very, very true.

*squishes you insanely hard*

Bwa-ha-ha! I saw that in a stationery store a couple of months ago and thought "oh man, I need to get this for Red the next time a birthday or holiday rolls around". With your domestic-Hakkai fetish, I thought it would be a source of much glee. Glad to see I called that one right. XD

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2008-07-25 07:15 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. Especially considering where I'm working now.

Thank you, that is perfect.

[identity profile] ryanitenebrae.livejournal.com 2008-07-22 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
^^ To clarify, is there a particular gender of red-head?
Also, you mean Karrin Murphy, from Dresden?

I've seen non-prescription glasses sold everywhere, cheap, particularly at places like Walgreens. Also, you could always remove the lenses from an old pair of prescription glasses, if you have one around.

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2008-07-22 11:48 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, that's a good idea! And I mean Karin from Naruto. She's kind of a ditz, but her outfit is cool.

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2008-07-23 06:02 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, no, how were you supposed to know that it WASN'T Dresden-Karin?

[identity profile] enderxenocide.livejournal.com 2008-07-22 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
adkljdsfkljd Karin. That's a really good thrift store cosplay. And as much as I dislike Karin, you'd look amazing in that outfit.

As for the ero-kappa, I'll keep an eye (haha) out for a jacket while I'm at the thrift store. I need to find some khaki pants, anyway. Also, let me know if you have any great ideas for Hakkai's "glasses". That's going to be kind of tricky.

Oh, man, good luck tomorrow! Please, give me a call if you have a break or something. Hang in there!

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2008-07-22 11:47 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'm not a fan of Karin, either, but I really like her cosplay. Plus, last time I picked a character I didn't like to do, my innate awesomeness infused the character, and by the time the show was over I really loved her. So, hopefully, Kishimoto will sense my kick-ass spirit and by the time I wear it, she'll have done something awesome, like stabbing Sasuke in the back. (A girl can dream, right?) And if that theory actually works, next cosplay I'm doing Sakura. ^_^

And please do keep your eye out for me! Is there anything that you want me to find for you?

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2008-07-23 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
There most certainly will be!

And that's a good place to check - as are the pharmacy. I do't have a Big W, but I'm sure if I just keep checking at places, I'll eventually find some.

I have to say that I think Karin is a total moron, and am more annoyed by her than anything. But she has a freaking awesome character design.

I think Kishimoto mistakes sasuke fangirl = for substance. (Speaking of, I have to rant about this. I have a friend who is male and doesn't watch naruto, who was at my birthday and saw me flipping out about my Sai doll and then told his brother's girlfriend that it was Sasuke. She had the expected flinch at hearing that, and if it was possible to eviserate someone over the internet, I would have.)

But back to the sasuke fangirl syndrome. I think Kishimoto doesn't realize he needs more than that for a character. For example, think how awesome if would have been if we'd seen a bit of Sakura's home life and understood WHY she was so obsessive about Sasuke. Wouldn't that have been so nice?

It seems so incredibly focused on the boys... especially freaking Sasuke. Damn it, I just want to smack Kishimoto in the head sometimes.

Who doesn't? I swear, I really need a 'fuck you Kishimoto' icon.
