Really.

Just look at the evidence:

Part 1: Sakura is badly written by Kishimoto, and drives the majority of the audience insane with annoyance. Sasuke is kinda cool.

Part 2: Sasuke is badly written by Kishimoto, and drives the majority of the audience insane with annoyance. Sakura is fantastically cool.

It's like they share a set amount of 'annoying' and when one takes, the other gives. *sigh*

Don't you see? They're soul mates. The last scene of the manga will be them getting married and/or surrounded by pink-haired, pinwheel-eyed children.

It's totally canon, don't bother arguing with me.

Shut up, Sakura x Sasuke are only the greatest romance since Bella and Edward! (OMG OTP!!1111!!!!)

In the middle of volume 10. (As in, I got halfway through on the train, put my swag from KumoriCon away, and haven't felt the need to finish it. Part of that is I'm super enjoying the Alera Codex right now.)

And I'm glad to know it starts getting better relatively soon. And I'm morbidly curious about the series' low point.

In comparison to other manga, it isn't much of a low point. It just made me sigh bigtime when I got to it.

Where are you now in Codex Alera?

(In complete honesty, I kind of think CA is better than Dresden Files, and I get the feeling Butcher is enjoying playing in the high fantasy does ancient Rome playground more than he has the UF playground lately._

I just finished book two. And I totally see what you mean - I kinda feel like he's dragging things out in The Dresden Files while what he's doing in Alera just seems to pop, if that makes sense.

Also, I'm loving Lady Aquitaine - now THAT is a well written villianess. And I'm really itching for more Fade/Isana, because I'm quite curious how the whole coward/stupid thing worked out, because she didn't seem to know who he was in book one (which may have been butcher cheating a bit) and I'm very intrigued to see how that plays out.

And Tavi's the High Lord's grandson, correct?

Well, with Dresden, I think I read that the publisher wants a certain total number of books, so the main plot has to last that long. Which is annoying.

With Fade/Isana, the very short version is "he decided to live a certain life, and she went with it because it was for the best." I've always read it as she'd treated him that way for so long that she couldn't really break character easily.

Lady Aquitaine is awesome, and gets moreso.

Tavi's parentage is easy to guess, and meant to be that way.

You took the words right out of my mouth.

Speaking of Fade/Isana... I am SO underwhelmed with them. I just finished the third book and that whole subplot with him almost dying? Okay, yeah, it was badass of Isana to manage to keep him alive for a whole month, but I just keep on wanting to smack them for being so selfish. I mean, they were BEING BESIEGED and you're taking an AMAZING healer out of comission for a month so she can save one man who should be fighting in the first place? I just keep wanting to yell at both of them to get their heads out of their asses and start fighting the good fight.

Also, I'm kinda sad that Tavi is able to use fury craft now, although the fact that Kitia can as well is very, very interesting.

In things I love - oh my god Max. I just want to cuddle him so very hardcore. He's like... Gojyo. Oh, my god, he's so very like Gojyo. (In fact, I spent the the whole book going, 'you know, I bet massive amounts of money that the abuse was sexual and not just physical.')

Max is love. Isana has issues. As does Fade. Which, IIRC, get explored in the next book.

I remain on the bitter side that Tavi is developing furies.

Oh my god word. It's like, 'what was the point? What was the point of his whole arc and the stuff with the romans and the high lord talking about how he doesn't NEED furycrafting when he has furycrafters to support him if he's just going to get furies late?'

It totally bites.

They do develop really slowly, and IIRC, he pretty much sucks with them the next book, so he doesn't exactly become superpowerful overnight or anything, but when the whole gimmick is that your lead is the only person without powers in a world where everyone has them...

(BTW, I think book 4 is when Isana/Fade clicked for me, but I've also been reading the books as they came out, which likely affects perception.)

Exactly. It's especially annoying when in that very book you find out that their ancestors DIDN'T have them originally, which... makes it so much more believable and interesting that he doesn't.
