Many, many times in fiction I have come across some variant of "it was their first real fight" or "they'd had spats/arguments before, but this was serious" (emphasis mine).

Basically, this idea that there are fights that are important in a romantic relationship and fights that aren't.

Now, I can see why arguing about pepsi versus coke is not at the same level as arguing about which school your kid goes to, but I ask you, flist, in your romantic experience, is there this strong delineation between fights that matter and fights that don't? Or is it more of a scale?
