I just finished my long, luxurious reread of The Hunger Games and Catching Fire.

On the subject of a movie, I am actually very excited. I would love a bigger fandom, I think my status as someone who got hooked on the books before the third one was released and pimped the hell out of the series would qualify me for Old Fandom Queen status and I would like live action icons NOT based on dream casting.

That said, even though I want her to be write, this article is made of fail. First of all, ( bitch, bitch, bitch )

In news that doesn't raise my blood pressure:


We have a cover and a title for the third and final book. And it's lovely (even if my inner nitpicker is going, 'but mockingjays have a black body).

 One thing that I kept forgetting to mention is how, in this age of pretty damn sexualized YA covers, The Hunger Games has a very minimalistic (see icon, mentally remove the text). Especially considering that in the second book, Katniss spends a not inconsiderable amount of time( spoilers for Catching Fire )).

Give that, I was curious to see how foreign covers portrayed her, and was quite pleased:

Doesn't she just look incredibly badass? Seriously, she looks like she's about the complete in the Triwizard Tournament.... and totally own Harry Potter's ass. Also, be sure and check out the UK official site.... that's where I found this icon and they have wallpapers and such.

The Hunger Games, ohmygod.

Once I finally sat down to read this book I just bombed through it. While I was reading I wanted to shove it at everyone I know going "read it, read it" so that other people would know how awesome it was. To everyone who recced it to my: you guys know my tastes well, and have mad book-picking skillz.

The Hunger Games "introduces sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives in a post-apocalyptic world where a powerful government called the Capitol has risen up after several devastating disasters. In the book, the Hunger Games are an annual televised event where the ruthless and evil Capitol randomly selects one boy and one girl from each of the twelve districts, who are then pitted against each other in a game of survival and forced to kill until only one remains" (wiki).

Now I don't usually like post-apocalyptic worlds; they get really depressing, fast. But Katniss is a very matter-of-fact narrator and that, plus Katniss' success at keeping her family fed and safe, plus the gentle doses of humor, keep this from being a downer book.
