I have realized after having a bunch of my original stories read that a lot of people don't get endings that I think are totally obvious.

Duh, the walls between heaven and hell are collapsing.

It's a 'The Lady or The Tiger' ending.

Of course it's a happy ending, I couldn't make it more blatant if I had roses showering the stage.

Maybe you should have an alternate "if you don't get it" ending with the roses? Those who need it probably aren't smart enough to realize they're being called stupid anyway...

For that particular one, I am going to completely rewrite the ending, and then this winter break hand it to my mother and go, 'which one is better'? Because I really want to leave SOME mystery there.

And I honestly think part of the fun with Mei is going to be letting the reader decide how nice/naughty she really is.

Yeah, I had that, too. Only in mine I hinted at a miscarriage, later had the character outright say she had a miscarriage, and a few people in the class still didn't understand why she was cleaning up bloodstains. They thought it was a post-murder scene.

Some people just seem to have a hard time making connections and grasping ideas that aren't stated bluntly.

(Hee, roses!)

Yeah. I'm really grateful that I've always had at least one person who was like, 'blah blah' in this nice 'of course' tone in their voice.

I always struggle with those types of endings, not because I want to change it, but really, it`s whether or not they`ll understand it in the way I had intended. Not that they`re stupid and I`m smarter, but I`ve just found that they tend to interpret my endings differently—which actually makes it more interesting :D

Oh, and I loved The Lady or the Tiger. Great short story. Just like The Most Dangerous Game.

I need to read that short story. I've only ever seen it in play form.
