Thoughts: I kinda hope Hinata is dead, because if not, this could lead to a Hinata/Naruto ending, which while awesome for Hinata (and I want her to get everything she wants), would also probably mean a Sasuke/Sakura ending, which would suck.

You know, this is when I wish SO HARD that Kishimoto had let Sakura learn the jutsu to calm the Nine-Tails. Although maybe we'll have a repeat of her running towards him, and maybe this time we'll get a successful beauty tames the best?

But after reading and rereading and analyzing the shit out of Sasuke and Madara's interactions for reread_no_jutsu, I have to be devil's advocate and say there is a strong, strong chance that his villain face is just an act to get Madara to think Sasuke's on his side.

Which Madara probably knows, and already has a contingency betrayal plan.

Honestly, I agree. It's the most likely with the themes of the manga and Sasuke's story arc so far.

It is also a FUCKING HUGE CHEAT.

Kishimoto had Sasuke THINK "I'm going to destroy Konoha" in his HEAD. He would only do that if that's what he really wanted to do, especially since we already had verbal confirmation that Team Hebi was going for Konoha elders.

Bad storytelling Kishimoto, bad storytelling.

I mean, even with Itachi, didn't we get that one 'looking tormented' shot to forshadow the reveal?

Kishimoto is giving NONE of that to Sasuke, and considering how much time we've spent with him, that's bad, bad storytelling.

When you read back, there are a whole slew of shots of Itachi looking tormented. That scene in the rain when it was assumed Sasuke died fighting Deidara, a lot of his reaction shots during Akatsuki meetings--even when we first meet him, they were there. I'm thinking of his finger twitching on his cup when he hears Sasuke approaching the teashop. The way his blank face is drawn in the manga when we first meet him looks less blank and more melancholy, IMO. The fact that his first impulse is always to talk, not to throw a punch.

Just little things.

I would argue that since Sasuke's conversation with Madara, chapter 416, is actually PRE-Hachibi fight (or at least it must be, based on the time frame), and then during the Hachibi fight, we actually get a mini-Team 7 flashback before Sasuke fights to save his team, who just fought to save him--I would argue that it's mot necessarily bad storytelling so much as misleading storytelling.

Itachi and Atasuki is actually one of the reasons I'm really excited about doing a reread of Naruto - because I think a.) being able to tell who's talking in all those Sasuke and Itachi conversations and b.) paying attention when Atasuki is around will help a lot.

I would argue that since Sasuke's conversation with Madara, chapter 416, is actually PRE-Hachibi fight (or at least it must be, based on the time frame), and then during the Hachibi fight, we actually get a mini-Team 7 flashback before Sasuke fights to save his team, who just fought to save him--I would argue that it's mot necessarily bad storytelling so much as misleading storytelling.

Except that AFTER that team 7 flashback and saving his current team, he thinks, to himself, 'I have a power strong enough to destroy Konoha.'

I'm sure Kishimoto is TRYING to be misleading, but he's doing it by breaking faith with the audience, which is bad storytelling, in my book.
