Thoughts: I kinda hope Hinata is dead, because if not, this could lead to a Hinata/Naruto ending, which while awesome for Hinata (and I want her to get everything she wants), would also probably mean a Sasuke/Sakura ending, which would suck.

You know, this is when I wish SO HARD that Kishimoto had let Sakura learn the jutsu to calm the Nine-Tails. Although maybe we'll have a repeat of her running towards him, and maybe this time we'll get a successful beauty tames the best?

I'm in the other camp. I feel like Sakura and Naruto know each other in a way that Hinata and Naruto don't, so NaruHina's never really done it for me. It's always felt so unrequited. Plus, I didn't even *like* Hinata that much until the time-jump.

But now...lately I've been reassessing Hinata and while I'm still bored by her "type" of character, I am did cheer for her this chapter.

And I'm kind of feeling...like I don't want Hinata to be with anyone. Or at least not anyone in canon, not until she's a hot 22 year old or something. I want her personal growth arc to go full circle: as part of loving and learning from her idol, she outgrows her infatuation with him and eventually lets go of that as well.

Years later she looks back fondly on her first love, and she always thinks of Naruto with affection. They fight in more battles together and at one crazy drunken birthday party she kisses him--then she laughs, and he laughs, and she hugs him and tells him, "You're my f-favorite, just w-wanted you to know." When the village of Rain goes into a civil war they fight side by side to maintain the security of Fire Country's borders. One bloody morning Hinata sees the sword before he does, and if Hinata hadn't grabbed his utility belt to pull him into the mud Naruto would have been a head shorter and never lived to accept the Hokage's robes from an eagerly abdicating Hatake Kakashi.

Years pass, they change bit by bit (and down they forgot as up they grew). She sends him holiday cards and invites his family to eat with hers in the home she built across the city from the Hyuuga complex, where she has a husband she loves not because he's perfect or because he's everything she wishes could be; instead he's good and he fits and they're happy because around him she already is what she wants to be, as effortlessly as breathing. And her children laugh while they bicker over who has the best aim, and who is Uncle Hokage's favorite, and none of them, none of them wear a mark.

*chuckles* I would be all for a Naru/Hina ending, but you know what? I have always shipped SasuSaku, but specifically under the caveat that she wipes the walls with his self-absorbed, pea-brained face first, thoroughly rubbing his nose in the fact that HE sold himself body and soul and got turned into an ugly purple goomba and SHE still ended up stronger than him through honesty, loyalty, intelligence, and good old-fashioned hard work. Because Sakura deserves whoever the frick she wants, and Sasuke deserves a good smackdown and one non-writer-sabotaged chance to display signs of a functional brain.

So, yeah. That right there is my favorite Sakura pairing, and I would be very satisfied if the series ended with it. It may or may not qualify as an OT3, since all three elements must be present for me to ship it: Sakura, Sasuke, and wiping the walls with him. In fact, it kinda needs its own name. SakuSasuWallwipery? XD

If Sasuke's going to be a villain (which he's been clearly set up to be, what with that destroy Konoha thing) I want him to be a villain. And not get a free pass on his actions, which seems to be what always happens.

Although AFTER the fights are finished would be a good time for Sasuke to show up, simply for the epic WTF expression he would have. It would probably look a lot like your icon.

I'm...not happy that she went down so quickly, but this was a pretty epic moment of awesome anyway, since she, out of the entire population of Konoha, full of badass ninjas, got her ass out there to help Naruto out. With an awesome courageous speech and absolutely no stuttering, and totally confident body language. UGH. I could cry.

I thought Hinata rocked this chapter. But it just makes me annoyed then, that she is so easily dispatched. I would be okay with her sacrificing herself as a way to inspire Naruto to rage (since losing anyone he cares about is likely to do that, especially when they're hurt right before his eyes), but it's just so lame that male characters like Konohamaru live against the odds while much stronger ninjas like Hinata, who are female, die or are quickly beaten so the boys can shine. BLEGH.

And that's the beauty of Pain's psychosis... or the utter suckability of Kishimoto's writing. I'm not sure which it is right now. Pain is either so deliciously twisted that he doesn't SEE the hypocracy to some of what he says... or Kishimoto is trying for a level of grandiose that he's not at ALL capable of with this character. Personally, I like the idea of Kishimoto fucking with our heads and pretending to be a bad writer when in fact he's genius, if only because I adore the characterization of Pain as going, "they did this to me, so I'm doing this to them... but it's not revenge. It's justice." *giggles* Sociopaths are so delicious!

I was on KakaSaku forum not too long ago and ronsmyhero had a really good point regarding SasuSaku and how it will NOT happen, even if Hinata doesn't die: It won't happen at all because of the way Sasuke turned his back on EVERYONE. And that fact will be nailed home permanently the minute he kills anyone from Konoha. Sakura may say she loves him and all that... but I doubt very much she loves him to the point where she'd let him harm the village or forgive him for turning his back on them like that. The one panel where she says "We'll get stronger together"? I don't think she meant they'll get stronger in order to bring Sasuke home. What I think is that was her saying, "He doesn't want our help? Fine... we'll get strong together, without him. We still have EACH OTHER." So... yeah. That's my take on it.

But Hinata... THANK YOU FOR NOT BEING LAME LIKE EVERYONE ELSE! Especially Shikamaru's dad. Maybe that'll finally make the freakin ninja of Konoha wake up and go, "Hmmm... we've got the numbers on him. We can so own his ass!" I mean, really. It makes SENSE to rush Pain en masse. First of all, it uses up chakra to maintain his paths. The more he has to use his techniques, the more chakra he has to use. Second... he's one freakin man against HOW many ninja?
