Name five non-canoncial couples that you would like - or would have liked - to see get together in canon.
5.) Luke and Lorelai, Gilmore Girls
Okay, sure, they were engaged at once point, but as time goes by (play it again Sam) the more pissed off I am that Lorelai didn't get her wedding and husband. Rory's arc were all external; while she had a lot of romance, most of her arc boiled down to her interacting with the world. In the early season she spent more time on her and Chilton than her and Dean, she spent her freshman year at Yale single, one of the reasons that the Huntzburger arc had impact was that as it went on it started interacting with her journalistic aspirations. That's why it was so great that she ended the series on her own, unfettered and about to fly off into the world; her whole journey was about preparing herself for the big wide world.
Lorelai's arcs, however, where always much more interpersonal. It was about her reconciling with her parents and finding the right man to build a life with, to get a chance to marry and have a second child with someone she loved. In that light and considering that Gilmore Girls lasted seven season, it is flatly criminal that she didn't end up (and by end up I mean married and happy) with Luke.
4.) Hakkai x Yaone, Saiyuki
This was planned as canon until Minukura realized that what she really wanted was an incredibly subtexy series. I still think it would have been awesome, and would have been a great way to give Hakkai the life he wants. Plus, what woman wouldn't kill to get into a relationship with Cho Hakkai? I know I would.
3.) Katara x Zuko, Avatar
You all knew this one was coming.
2.) Fakir x Ahiru, Princess Tutu
She willingly showed him her duck-form/true form. For a magical girl anime that is like... giving someone your letterman jacket.
1.) Sakura x Sai, Naruto
As OTP as I am about Kakashi x Sakura, with Kishimoto's gender issues, there is NO WAY that he could write that pairing in a way that wouldn't be skeevy.
On the other hand, you have Sai, who's clearly drawn as Sakura's equal, is someone she doesn't hold back against, thinks she's pretty, was crushing on her fist, and likes to totally cockblocks Naruto around her. Sai is like Saskue v2.0 - he's hot, skilled, and lacks that nasty traitorous blood (I would argue that Sasuke does not know how to be loyal to anything) and bad attitude towards the people who love him. ADDITIONALLY, Sai would show that Sakura has grown enough to pick quality over the brand name, while nonetheless landing her with a boy-toy would make Ino drool with envy.

Maybe I'm confusing the anime to the manga, but . . .
I agree that Sasuke has some major loyalty issues, but I disagree that he's incapable of learning at least some of it in Part 1. Sasuke's main problem is that his mindset was so fucked up from both his past it made any concept of going beyond himself and his revenge would be difficult for him to comprehend. The moment he finally did understand, he got beaten up and was hammered to back to another issue that he had: not having enough strength to stop the massacre, which was one of the major reasons he left.

And I'm not saying he doesn't have good reason for it, but it IS an unflattering facet of his personality that I think a lot of people ignore, especially when writing him coming back to Konoha.
For example, I lot of people write him having probation of some such, but I don't think a lot of people grock that he really isn't trustworthy, especially to Konoha in general.

It's more that I think people ignore the EMOTIONAL connotations of it. Like, I've read a lot of fics with him being on probation (but not failing personality test, and that is PERFECT) but NONE which have him betraying Konoha again, which i think is honestly a very, very real possibility.
