I didn't say anything before (usually it fixes itself by this time) but either yahoo or livejournal is failing to send me comment notifications. I'm just checking on my lj homepage but if I haven't responded to something yet, that's why.

Day 01 - What is your current favourite ship
Day 02 - What was your very first ship?
Day 03 - A pairing that needs to happen now?
Day 04 - The pairing with the most chemistry?
Day 05 - The pairing with the least chemistry?

Day 06 - The best kiss?
Day 07 - The most heartbreaking scene?

Day 08 - The pairing with the most baggage?
Day 09 - The most believable relationship?
Day 10 - Why aren't these two married in real life?
Day 11 - What is your dream pairing?
Day 12 - Who had the best wedding?

Day 13 - What is your favorite television pairing?

Day 14 - What is your favorite book pairing?
Day 15 - What is your favorite real life pairing?

Day 16 - What is the absolute worst pairing?

Day 17 - A pairing you thought would never work out, but did?

Today, I'll be a little more verbose about this question than I was yesterday, especially given that I have two answers.

Questionable Content, Faye x Angus. I really enjoyed Angus when he just came in and liked that he enjoyed Faye's sarcasm and vinegar but once she started screwing around with Sven I didn't think anything would come of it. A couple kisses and one honest-to-god date later, I am quite glad to be wrong.

Princess Tutu, Mytho x Rue. Rue is a classic Dark Magical Girl and I'll be honest, I did not expect her to get the happy ending she did. Not only did she end up with the love of the adorkable heroine, she gained the love of the heroine's crush. While I'm not a big Mytho fan, he was what Rue wanted more than anything, and I wanted Rue to get whatever her little raven-heart desired.

(Huh. I expected that to be longer.)

List the 5 series (tv, book, or movies) that best kept their quality, from beginning to end.

This is a subject incredibly close to my heart. There is nothing I hate more than a show that I adore which the writers ruin through characterization or pacing fail. More shows have done that to me than I have fingers, frankly. (The reason it's so common, imho, is that the US television system is set up so that shows become most profitable once they reach 100 episodes and go into syndication, which results in shows that only have a 13 episode or 22 episode or 44 episode story being dragged out).

So, five shows that have kept there awesome all the way through or remained as good as they started are:

–Burn Notice. Three seasons in, and it's still awesome. Cross your fingers tomorrow's premier doesn't make me eat my words.

– (excluding the movie) Firefly.

–Legend of the Seeker. Cancelled before it could break my heart.

–(the original) Fullmetal Alchemist anime. Haters to the left.

–Princess Tutu

(Notice how two of these shows were cancelled and two are Japanese? Because I certainly did.)

What 5 characters perform their actual jobs well? (Characters from Clerks need not apply.)

My competency-kink combined with my lack of patience with people who AREN'T good at their job makes this a really easy question to answer. That said, there are five people who I think are scarily competent at their jobs (in no particular order):

Jack Bristow, Temperence Brennan, Michael Westen, Nyota Uhura, and the epic Adelle deWitt.

From [livejournal.com profile] fannish5 :

Name five non-canoncial couples that you would like - or would have liked - to see get together in canon.

5.) Luke and Lorelai, Gilmore Girls

Okay, sure, they were engaged at once point, but as time goes by (play it again Sam) the more pissed off I am that Lorelai didn't get her wedding and husband. Rory's arc were all external; while she had a lot of romance, most of her arc boiled down to her interacting with the world. In the early season she spent more time on her and Chilton than her and Dean, she spent her freshman year at Yale single, one of the reasons that the Huntzburger arc had impact was that as it went on it started interacting with her journalistic aspirations. That's why it was so great that she ended the series on her own, unfettered and about to fly off into the world; her whole journey was about preparing herself for the big wide world.

Lorelai's arcs, however, where always much more interpersonal. It was about her reconciling with her parents and finding the right man to build a life with, to get a chance to marry and have a second child with someone she loved. In that light and considering that Gilmore Girls lasted seven season, it is flatly criminal that she didn't end up (and by end up I mean married and happy) with Luke.

4.) Hakkai x Yaone, Saiyuki

This was planned as canon until Minukura realized that what she really wanted was an incredibly subtexy series. I still think it would have been awesome, and would have been a great way to give Hakkai the life he wants. Plus, what woman wouldn't kill to get into a relationship with Cho Hakkai? I know I would.

3.) Katara x Zuko, Avatar

You all knew this one was coming.

2.) Fakir x Ahiru, Princess Tutu

spoilers! )

1.) Sakura x Sai, Naruto

As OTP as I am about Kakashi x Sakura, with Kishimoto's gender issues, there is NO WAY that he could write that pairing in a way that wouldn't be skeevy.

On the other hand, you have Sai, who's clearly drawn as Sakura's equal, is someone she doesn't hold back against, thinks she's pretty,  was crushing on her fist, and likes to totally cockblocks Naruto around her. Sai is like Saskue v2.0 - he's hot, skilled, and lacks that nasty traitorous blood (I would argue that Sasuke does not know how to be loyal to anything) and bad attitude towards the people who love him. ADDITIONALLY, Sai would show that Sakura has grown enough to pick quality over the brand name, while nonetheless landing her with a boy-toy would make Ino drool with envy.

gacked from [livejournal.com profile] penknife : Make a list of your favorite pairings and explain who would pick up the socks and why.

Maka x Soul: Maka would maka-chop Soul if he didn't put away the socks. He wouldn't.

Suki x Sokka: Suki would pick up the socks... to throw at Sokka until he picked up the sock that had just been pelting his head and put them in the laundry basket. Then he tries to invent a robot to pick up the socks.

Ishida x Orihime: he picks up the socks, and he likes it.

Yaone x Hakkai: they both pick up the socks, and if they forget, the other one does it. And then the first someone apologizes profusely to the other, and by 'profusely' I mean 'provides sexual favors for.'

Yaone x Gojyo: Yaone picks up the socks and the pants and the beer cans and the ashtrays and cleans and cooks and at some point Gojyo realizes that she doesn't threaten his life, even when he puts out cigarettes in empty can, and then starts being a better husband.

Kakashi x Sakura: Kakashi picks up his own socks, thank you. When she's really tired Sakura throws her dirty clothes on her desk and puts them away later. However, occasionally during this process her knee-socks with the dancing cherries and the slutty strawberries vanish to reappear when Kakashi needs something to tie her wrists to the headboard with.

Sai x Sakura: Sai picks up the sock, makes snarky comment, gets boot thrown at his head.

Sasuke x Naruto: Naruto leaves socks on floor. Sasuke bitches. Naruto declares that the strongest ninja will put away the socks. House is subsequently destroyed.

Claire x Chane: God decrees that the socks will put themselves in the laundry basket. Socks obey.

Fakir x Ahiru: Fakir yells at Ahiru for leaving her entire outfit on the floor, while his nose is pressed to the nearest wall.

Kyon x Haruhi: Kyon picks up the socks and bitches to himself, but secretly likes it.

Ino x Sakura: The stockings stay on the floor.

Temari x Shikamaru: they hire a maid.

Issac x Miria: they make a game out of throwing all the socks on the floor.

Okay, so I got my Princess Tutu DVDs today, and I think they were worth the $45. I didn't get a chance to watch much as I have six poems due by Wendsday, but from what I saw so far the actors who do Duck and Fakir are ADORABLE. I have a feeling the dub will really grow on me. Also, ans sexy as Rue looks on the cover... seriously, Rue alone, on the cover? Did I miss the part where this was about someone called Princess Tutu?

Also, I watched the first episode of Merlin this weekend and the vids I've seen spoilers )

Okay, so in my psych class my teacher was talking about how you can tell how important ideas are in a culture by how many different words that culture has for the same thing. Like, for example, how many different ways you can say attractive. What was really interesting is that when the class was throwing out synonyms for 'attractive' the women would pick more neutral words while the men would pick sexually charged ones. For example:

Women: beautiful, pretty, cute.
Men: sexy, hot, breathtaking.

Which was interesting. Mainly I was thinking of all the words we have for 'stupid' and how Japanese only has one.

Also, this weeks [livejournal.com profile] fannish5 :

List the five most surprising moments in any canon.

4.) Naruto. SAI. I was spoiled for basically everything that happened in Naruto, except for Sai. My reaction, when I got to this hot, competent, badass shinobi with believable angst who is willing to IMPROVE HIMSELF who was saying everything we think about Sasuke totally unapologetically, has the best abs ever (seriously, can I lick his hipbones? Please?) and that delightfully massive crush on Sakura was this: WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN FOR THE LAST 282 CHAPTERS AND WHY DIDN'T I KNOW ABOUT YOU BEFORE?

Except this, which is another example of why it literally makes me see red when I hear girls say they aren't feminists. Like, what, you want to to be paid 3/4 or less of what a man is for the same amount of work while simultaneously spitting on everything you mother did to get you where you are now? Get the hell out of my gender. (And yes, I DO understand some of the stereotypes that are attached to the word 'feminist' but what it actually means is that you think men and women are equal, and disassociating yourself from that is a HUGE step backward, imho.)

On a happier note, check out the translation of the book Rue drops in episode 5 of Princess Tutu. (Translation is in the comments.) Now, I wibble a lot over Rue, but this just makes me wibble harder.

Also, this is totally a Fakir song:

So, I'm surfing tvtropes.org, as one does whenever one shouldn't, and I'm reading about macguffins, since mzminola and I were talking about how Mytho is one. (Actually, a lot of main character function as a macguffin for me on a subjective level, where I'm watching a show from the secondary characters and the lead is simply how all the secondary characters end up interacting. See Avatar, Naruto, Bleach.)

So I get to Chekhov's Gun, which lists Tsunade's necklace as an example.

....HOW?

The history behind her necklace is told right up front and it's (iirc) never used for plot purposes later on. I can see it as an example of a Memento Mac Guffin, but a Chekhov's Gun? Not so much.

I'm at home and currently my house doesn't have internet (long, boring story). Luckily, I have a laptop and there are two places in town that I'm willing to hang out in for hours and have free wi-fi (or wi-fi) for the price of a soda, because a.) I wanted one and b.) I feel guilty just showing up and using their internet.

So if I'm around marginally less than normal, that's why.
