I had so much fun at the midnight showing. it was awesome. it's been a while since I've read the book, but I thought the film stayed fairly true to the comic and rocked out loud in general. and I had a hard time not laughing throughout the entire thing when people got killed or blown up. I've really been desensitized lol.
I've got a midterm at 9 AM today, tho', so when I got back around 3:30 I just decided to stay up. XD good thing I'm used to pulling all-nighters, lol.
The film was INCREDIBLY faithful to the comic. And I mean that in a functional way as well - I think people who didn't read it would have understood what was happenening, yet nothing important was changed. (It helps that the book was MADE to be a movie.)
I crashed at just before four, and got up five minutes before my first class. Luckily, it takes me five minutes to walk to class.
Will you elaborate on 'better than the book'? And don't worry I'm not going to give wank on your opinion, (like the crazy batshit shippers) I just want to know why.
1.) Watchmen was really written to be a movie, imho. Just look at the first page, where you have square after square of the smiley face button slowly getting smaller. It's basically a movie story board, which means that reading it as a comic book, I was HORRIBLY frustrated by the waste of space and time. I found the panel layout horribly repetitive and boring.
2.) This is totally subjective, but I found the book really, really bleack and hard to continue reading, especially in the middle. Now, which the movie isn't CHEERIER by any means, I think it plays better over at two and a half hours instead of reading it over several days, as well as the awesome, awesome, awesome fight scenes giving a dark joy to the movie that is lacking in the book.
3.) (Another commenter said this, but it's totally true). The actors make it better. They NAILED all the roles, and for whatever reason, seeing them as walking, talking people made me relate SO much more to them.
4.) In the comic, the costumes are ugly as fuck. Especially Laurie's. In the movie, the costumes are classic and, in the case of Silk Spectre I, DELIGHTFULLY retro.
I totes agree that it was "better than the book..." perhaps because I am the worst geek of all time and didn't like the book that much. Having real people play the characters really helps humamize 'em.
Yeah... I follow. I suppose to me, it still feels more like I admire it than like it - I can appreciate its meticulous construction and interesting ideas, but it just... It's all head and no heart.
OH MY GOD OH MY GOD I'M SEEING IT TOMORROW AND IF IT'S BETTER THAN THE BOOK, WHICH BASICALLY CHANGED MY LIFE, I WILL PROBABLY EXPLODE IN A SHOWER OF CONFETTI AND SUNLIGHT.

HOW GOOD WAS IT??
(DAMN. THE PREMIERE IS ON SCHOOL DAY. NEED. TO. WATCH.)

VIOLENT AS ALL HELL, BUT STILL AWESOME. This movie actually made me wonder if I've become resensitized to violence.

WHERE'S MY SILK SCEPTRE ICON WHEN I NEED IT.
(Yeah, I heard it was violent. BUT WATCHMEN. WATCHMEN.)

And I honesly feel that the violence was justified for the story that they were telling.

I still haven't brushed my hair, though.
