Okay, on the five things meme (I finally figured out my answers to your questions - I'll be posting them tomorrow), no one asked me about the 5 Times Black Star Surpassed God Naruto (because it's obvious? because no one cares?) However, I realized that I had great (or at least pictorial answers to that question. Since it's my birthday (and I can do what I want do, do what I want to) I'm going to tell you

I love how the poor child got beat up over not moving an inch away from her side...Naruto's lame screams seem so half ass in retrospect...good point.

*nods* Honestly, I love most things about the Hinata/Neji fight, including Naruto yelling encouragement from the stands, but when Black Star appeared in Tsubaki's head while she was a little girl... I may have choked up.

and yes for all the costume changes Sasuke has gone through, Soul's suit trumps all of them...


And again, that suit is so awesome it seems like an unfair comparison, really.

I'm intending on watching Soul Eater when the US release comes out, but I'm still hesitant. Really, this entry is making me much less so. Black Star is one of the characters I'm not sure I'll like (I like happy, hyper, arrogant idiots, but they must be done well,) and this has eliminated any reservations in that particular area. You know, I really didn't realize the similarities of Black*Star and Naruto at first. I always keep on comparing Black*Star to a guy I once knew in my childhood, with the opinions of "Arg, this guy thinks he is so awesome he pisses me off," or "Wow, he is that dense," to the one time he actually cheered me up and I've totally forgotten that I was suppose to hate him.

And then he moved away.

Plus, you know, Soul Eater never tried to kill Black*Star.

I think that sentence alone pretty much says it all about Soul and Black*Star's friendship against the super special friendship that is Sasuke and Naruto. Number one rule of being a best friend: don't try to kill your best friend!

Yup.

Well, I do still like Naruto and all, but at least Black Star has some balls. Plus, #2 really does make sense.

Part 1 Naruto was a lot better, but now he just went all emo and crap because of Sasuke... so yeah, Black Star /does/ have a better friend than Naruto. I'd even say Soul > Sasuke, but I would just be biased because I never was a fan of Sasuke, anyway.

This shows how amazing the author of Soul Eater is. They took a character that was basically a Shounan-hero cookie cutter and made him a deep(ish) and likable individual. I think what really sums up the difference is that Naruto's button is stuck on 'dumbass' while Black Star's can be turned off long enough for him to experience some damned character development that doesn't seem forced and misplaced.

I've just realised that I adapted this line for my SE/Buffy crossover! It's combined with my own acknowledgment that Soul rocks a suit (especially that Black Room pinstripe number) better than *any * other character in the show (including Kidd and Spirit, who wear them as their regular outfit). In fact, Soul rocks that suit better than possibly any other anime character EVER, including the gorgeous bishie vamps of Vampire Knight, and the official and fan-drawn art of the Bleach guys in suits.
And yes, Maka is also a GQ HBIC. Just one more reason that she and Soul are So Meant To Be(So There)!
