 I feel like the Sci-Fi icons I have aren't Sci-Fi enough.

Holy cow. Off topic, but have you seen this (http://www.boingboing.net/2009/10/20/86-year-old-wwii-vet.html) yet? ♥ ♥

No, but that is totally believably awesome.

That's why I put this one together from a NASA photo.

I was also thinking of doing one from this cover - but not everyone is familiar with Cherryh's Chanur series (and would recognize that the golden-haured lion-people - the hani - are both female).

Ooo, that is nicely spacy.

And the Chanur series are classic... Foreigner is the first one, right?

No, Foreigner is part of a different series entirely, where the protagonist is in many ways one of CJC's patented Damaged Young Men. Most of the viewpoint characters in Chanur are female hani (although one of my favorite male characters, a member of a different non-human race, gets a scene or so from his own viewpoint in Chanur's Homecoming).

  • The Pride of Chanur (originally, a stand-alone novel)
  • Chanur's Venture
  • The Kif Strike Back (CJC's note on the title - never use a joke title as a placeholder: your publisher may like it and take you seriously)
  • Chanur's Homecoming (my fave)
  • Chanur's Legacy (continues the story from the principal viewpoint of the prevous hani protagonist's niece: IMO, she whines a bit and has Issues, but YMMV)

I do like that icon though. Oh Star Trek...

I know, I'm being weird. Because Star Trek is classic SF.
