"You Got Yourself A Goddamned Partner!"

I don't know if anyone else is reading Questionable Content right now, but I adored this last week's worth of strips. Like, loved beyond all measure.

30 Day Shipping Meme:

Day 01 - What is your current favourite ship

Day 02 - What was your very first ship?

Indiana Jones x Marion Ravenwood.

This was one of those formative ships for me. Bad boy adventurer + BAMF lady. It's been a while since I watched Raiders of the Lost Ark, but I remember her doing things like: owning a bar, drinking a nazi under the table, shoving a pie(?) into some guys face during a riot at the bazaar, and running around a tomb in a white dress with a torch. Oh, and totally not taking any of Indy's shit.

Seriously, I have much affection for the fourth movie (which is not good) almost solely because it shows that Marianne was totally the girl for Indiana Jones and gets them hitched.

Day 03 - A pairing that needs to happen now?
Day 04 - The pairing with the most chemistry?
Day 05 - The pairing with the least chemistry?
Day 06 - The best kiss?
Day 07 - The most heartbreaking scene?
Day 08 - The pairing with the most baggage?
Day 09 - The most believable relationship?
Day 10 - Why aren't these two married in real life?
Day 11 - What is your dream pairing?
Day 12 - Who had the best wedding?
Day 13 - What is your favorite television pairing?
Day 14 - What is your favorite book pairing?
Day 15 - What is your favorite real life pairing?
Day 16 - What is the absolute worst pairing?
Day 17 - A pairing you thought would never work out, but did?
Day 18 - What is the cutest pairing?
Day 19 - A pairing you've rooted for since the beginning?
Day 20 - The "can't stand the sexual tension anymore" pairing?
Day 21 - A pairing you like and no one else understands why?
Day 22 - A pairing you hate and no one else understands why?
Day 23 - A crazy love triangle/quadrilateral that worked out great?
Day 24 - A crazy love triangle/quadrilateral that worked out badly?
Day 25 - A pairing that was/would-be adorable, but could never work out?
Day 26 - A pairing that you hated and ended up loving?
Day 27 - A pairing that you loved and ended up hating?
Day 28 - A pairing that you will never understand?
Day 29 - What ship had the best proposal?
Day 30 - Your favorite ship forever and ever and ever?

I know, right? Questionable Content has been getting good!

You should also check out Girls With Slingshots, if you haven't already.

That comic has been rec'd many times. One of these days I'll get to it.

*waves* Yeah, I'm glad to see Dora's neuroses finally having some realistic consequences....

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2010-09-09 06:37 am (UTC)(link)
I especially love Faye's smack-down and how much of a double-standard that Dora has regarding what it's okay for HER to do versus what it's okay for MARTIN to do.

[identity profile] mewsrissicat.livejournal.com 2010-09-09 01:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Doubly so, since Martin is innocent of any sort of flirtatious intent. Dora may not *intend* to do anything, but she's happy enough to act like she is, and then freaks on Martin.

Faye's always been a pretty straight-talker, though, and she was totally the right person to deliver that metaphorical right cross. (And yes, I totally snorted at the comment on the Cliff Notes for Faye being too thick to slide under a door. Oh Sven, we know it wasn't on purpose, but you're going to regret that one for the rest of your life. Interesting enough to see that Faye may have been good for him in unintentional ways.)

Plus, when Sven was dating her, it's not like he would have read or paid attention to the Cliff Notes if he'd had them. What, did he think fucking someone else was going to go over well?

[identity profile] mewsrissicat.livejournal.com 2010-09-10 10:57 am (UTC)(link)
Pfffft... what is this thing you call "think"? Sven. Didn't. Think.

He got drunk. He got stupid. He responded to a very pretty woman coming onto him unexpectedly in a typical male manner and completely without thought to the consequences. (I found it ironic that he later noted that Gina wasn't that good, either.)

Sven is the classic case of not knowing how much you value someone until you've screwed things up. One thing I did respect is that he owned up to the infidelity immediately, instead of lying to Faye. (Having four brothers, I've seen plenty of lying-by-omission when it comes to girlfriends...)

True. And I am so, so glad that Faye just left him and it looks like she's not going back. Rock on, Faye, rock on. (I was really scared there for a while.)

Love that they were your first pairing! ;] Also, just after I complained a bit about QC he changed it up this week and reminded me of why I love it!

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2010-09-03 02:37 pm (UTC)(link)
What was your complaint?

[identity profile] mistaria.livejournal.com 2010-09-03 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I was just talking to a friend about the fact that everything seemed to be going really well for all the characters and there has been a lack of some of the old time humour. I was still enjoying but the lack of conflict was a bit boring, which is probably silly for me to say but yeah...

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2010-09-09 06:39 am (UTC)(link)
Well, it's a classic law of fiction. If everything is going smoothly, there is not much interest for the reader. (Personally, I kind of am hoping for a return of Martin's interest in Faye.)

[identity profile] mistaria.livejournal.com 2010-09-09 07:17 am (UTC)(link)
It's so true but I try to enjoy the characters whether there's conflict or not. I don't like any conflict in my RL. But, I guess that's why we turn to fiction. We get to experience stuff we wouldn't normally get to or even want to.

I wouldn't say I'm hoping for it but I would definitely be interested in reading an arc with Martin gaining a renewed interest in Faye. It's been a long time since I've read the ones where Martin/Dora hook up but it seemed like it was all a little convenient and I could see how the feelings Martin had for Faye wouldn't be totally gone.

Agreed. As much as I like the maturity shown in Martin accepting Faye's 'I can't do this' and moving on, I bet there are some lingering feelings.

I know logically that the fourth movie wasn't as good but I did love it. I loved them meeting again and falling in love and I loved the son (who I want stories about. Granted they will be very different adventures, but I liked him.) and the obscure references to Indy's past (riding with Mexican Freedom fighters was how he learned the local language etc.)

[identity profile] jade-sabre-301.livejournal.com 2010-09-04 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
basically dittoing this comment. When I heard that Marion was going to be in the fourth Indy Jones movie I did a dance. I remember the first time I saw Last Crusade (we skip Temple of Doom in my house) and I was like WHAT WHERE DID MARION GO and my mom was like, "Oh, she probably got ticked off at something Indy did and left" and I was like WHAT NO THEY WERE AWESOME.

(also secret children is a troperific weakness of mine and so I was completely willing to forgive the fourth movie that as well. The Close Encounters rewrite, not so much. But! Marion! SecretLoveChild! <3)

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2010-09-08 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
It was kind of awesome. And I loved Jones' reversal on the college question as soon as he realized the kid was his.

[identity profile] fallingtowers.livejournal.com 2010-09-04 08:24 am (UTC)(link)
I forgave Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull all of its monumental awfulness just because Marion was in it. I prefer to think, though, that she still had a great life between being dumped at the altar and reuniting with Indy, even if Mutt must have been the kid from hell to raise.

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2010-09-08 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
I think it's clear she did, given that she by all reports married a great guy, raised a kid, and was off adventuring when Indy came back into her life.
