I realized on Saturday that in the single month I've been in France, I have (unwillingly) given my computer, the poor ill-used Angelina, the same amount of scratches that I had in the two YEARS since I first got her, as well as dented her wi-fi terminal (luckily unused, since I have built in wi-fi) and dropped her on the hardwood floor. (Which was one of those horrible accidents that happen when you take care putting your computer in you backpack, but fail to put backpack in the exact center of the bed, and are forced to watch from across the room when it flipped off. Goddamn water bottle.)

Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea culpa.

God, I wish I know of some kind of computer spa to reward her with when I get back, and/or a way to take scratches off of the casing.

Also, meme, gacked from

Comment with any ship from a fandom you know I like or am familiar with. I will then go on about said ship for at least one hundred words. Perhaps more! Feel free to comment with ships I like, ships I hate, or ships where my opinion is neutral or unknown. I'll be honest and relatively diplomatic about all of them, with a bit of added flail for the OTPs.

Pobre computadora! And poor you too.

It's been a long time since we mentioned it, And if your opinion's changed on either, that's cool too. Here goes:
Ed/Roy vs Girl!Ed/Roy. How do you see the second, expecially since you said you don't see the first?
Wednesday, October 10th, 2007 12:20 pm (UTC)
Okay, I'm going to have to eat crow on this one.

When I said that, I had just read a girl!Ed fic that had a slightly diffrent set up - it wasn't just Ed is a girl, it was Ed is a girl and staying at Roy's house and he's staring at her tits.

So. I saw the het.

However, if I cue up my mental FMA anime, add boobs on Ed and let it roll.... Edwina and Roy still have the same antagonistic, parental relationship going on. The only difference is Winry would be 'oh my god so clearly a lesbian' instead of just, 'hey, what do you bet in the right circumstances she'd swing both ways?'
Wednesday, October 10th, 2007 02:58 pm (UTC)
You now get a "more mature than the majority of fangirls" sticker.

I can see how you saw it...within that fic.

Winry's always awesome.
*snerk* Edwina somehow in my head turns into "Ed's a whiner" which is just too perfect.
Here's a weird thought: would them being opposite sexes make more, equal, or less elricest fans?
Wednesday, October 24th, 2007 04:47 pm (UTC)
That you. *puts sticker on jacket*

When is Winry not awesome? She totally rocks.

And less. It's the combination of pretty boys plus incest that does it. If one of them was a girl, there would be far less Al x Ed, and less Ed x Roy as well.

*is not bitter, nope, not at all* Although actually FMA is a really nicely balanced fandom. I'm just importing my Saiyuki bitterness, don't mind me.

Agatha/Gil!
Wednesday, October 10th, 2007 12:01 pm (UTC)
Laptop cozy?

Okay, what's great about Agatha/Gil is that they're so equal. They're both great at being Sparks, and they feed off each other in this lovely, creative way, plus, I think Gil is the first person who ever say Agatha's potential, and he totally fostered it, and didn't have the slightest bit of trouble being her assistant.

Additonally, I love that more than he wants her, he wants her to be free, to be her own person. That scene with his valet/spy was great because beyond how scary he was in order to keep her safe, he wanted her to be free to choose. And while I think at this point Gil loves her a bit more than she does him, I think that's because he knows how lucky he was to find her - I love when he's mourning her, and going, 'even in paris I couldn't find someone to talk to the way I did her.'

Laptop Cozy! (http://www.gadgetcozies.com/)

Totally. There was a bit of a setback on Agatha's side, being as Gil (reasonably) felt she needed to be protected from the masses of people who would want to kill or control a Heterodyne heir . . . on the one hand, she's proven herself well and shown that she can defend herself, there was also the whole unpleasantness in Strumhalen. So while I can see Agatha wanting a chance to prove herself, Gil's point is also clear.

But even then, she still thinks of him -- her heart went ba-bump at the thought of him coming to her rescue in the flyer they built, his muscles tastefully displayed in her mind's view.

I think that, if they reunite, Gil will volunteer to be her assistaint. She's getting challenged enough as a female Heterodyne, he's thrilled to just have someone he can really work with, share ideas with, and talk to -- I highly doubt he'd mind letting her take charge, which she needs right now.

My god those are adorable.

And sweet jesus I got none of your GG references. I can't wait until I have decent internet and can catch up.

Speaking of webcomics, I read the one you uploaded for me a long time ago? With what's her name and the shovel fight? That scene was sheerest win, by the way.
Wednesday, October 24th, 2007 05:15 pm (UTC)
Well, I reread all my hardcovers after I picked up volume six, so it's all fresh in my mind . . . I think you may have to reread as well, since I'm fairly certain you're caught up that far.

*goes through archives. On dialup* Let's see . . . to annotate my prior comment . . .

Nextwave? Oooh yeah, that's covered in awesomesauce.
Sunday, October 28th, 2007 06:32 pm (UTC)
Oh, I remember those! Sigh. Now I really want to reread the whole thing.

Smart girls are hot.
Sunday, October 28th, 2007 07:49 pm (UTC)
That is never an urge which you should resist.

Oooh yeah. Especially ones who wear glasses and don't even think of taking them off when they get spiffied up.
Monday, October 29th, 2007 09:21 am (UTC)
Also, have a mentioned that I have a total kink for wearing glasses during make out/ sex? Because that is just hot, and I think Gil would agree with me.
Monday, October 29th, 2007 05:17 pm (UTC)
Mmm, totally sexy. I bet Gil wouldn't dare to think of asking Agatha to take them off. There is evidence to support this (http://www.girlgeniusonline.com/stories/minutemystery/1minute.php).
Tuesday, October 30th, 2007 11:02 am (UTC)
Oh my go *snort.* The horrible thing? That's exactly what I'm like.
Tuesday, October 30th, 2007 11:40 am (UTC)
Gil and Agatha's song is totally 'Geeks in Love'. They're totally sweet and totally geeky at the same time. Their idea of an awesome date could involve never leaving the lab.

And your icon rocks.
Tuesday, October 30th, 2007 11:56 am (UTC)
Totally.

I need to write that fic.

And thank you.
Tuesday, October 30th, 2007 10:26 pm (UTC)
Write it! Write it! I promise to finally get cracking on one or more of the fics you've tempted me to write if you do!
Wednesday, October 31st, 2007 10:02 am (UTC)
Well, in that case...
Wednesday, October 31st, 2007 11:35 am (UTC)
Heh heh. . . I knew that one would work.

Hey, now I have extra motivation to work on something specific! *shoves writer's block off desk*
Thursday, November 1st, 2007 09:27 pm (UTC)
What's a little mutual bribery between friends?
Thursday, November 1st, 2007 10:31 pm (UTC)
Exactly! It's not bribery, it's mutual reward-based motivation!
Monday, November 19th, 2007 03:47 pm (UTC)
It works, though -- I'm two pages in to the mega Castle Heterodyne Matchmaker fic!

This is going to be a doozy.

So get cracking on yours!
Monday, November 19th, 2007 04:44 pm (UTC)
Ummmm.. what did I say I was writing again?
Monday, November 19th, 2007 06:07 pm (UTC)
*points upthread* Glasses are hot.
Tuesday, November 20th, 2007 05:42 pm (UTC)
Oh, yes, now I remember.
Tuesday, November 20th, 2007 11:28 pm (UTC)
There need to be more stories in general with the moral that glasses are hot. I was very tempted to set a book on fire recently when another character commented that the heroine's glasses were ugly and nothing was said to defend them.
Wednesday, November 21st, 2007 02:08 pm (UTC)
Agreed. And if the glasses actually WERE ugly, she should get new, hot ones.

God.

The last time I did the 12 people I'd date/have sex with, half of the list had glasses on.
Wednesday, November 21st, 2007 08:02 pm (UTC)
I can get the "Those frames don't flatter you. Get new ones and you'll be hot enough I'll need kevlar pants." approaches. But this just seemed to be insulting glasses in general. I threw the book across the room and didn't finish, so I can't say for sure.

But The Fire Rose was awesome for that, and Narbonic has most of the characters in glasses.
Thursday, November 22nd, 2007 04:40 pm (UTC)
Yeah. I heard about one scene from a book where someone was going. "Those glasses hide your eyes. That's good. I don't want anyone else to see how gorgeous they are." Only cuter and less possessive about it.

The Fire Rose? Is that a novel?
Thursday, November 22nd, 2007 05:07 pm (UTC)
Aww! That is pretty sweet.

Yep. Mercedes Lackey. It's sort of a fantasy/romance novel, partially following the story of Beauty and the Beast, where the heroine is studious in a time she's supposed to be quiet and find a good husband. She gets hired to help the hero with his studies, and is the exact opposite of the average 'too stupid to live' heroine. "A locked door? It's probably locked for a reason. I'll go check out the rest of the mansion."

The hero's rich, and while keeping the pretense of being proper and it being business expenses, he arranged for a visit to the city with an appointment with an optometrist (her prescription needed to be updated) and a visit to the bookstore where she could get anything she wanted.

Thinking about it, this is a very minor aspect of the novel, but it made me go 'awwww!'
Friday, November 23rd, 2007 04:29 pm (UTC)
That is so going on the to-read list.
Friday, November 23rd, 2007 09:06 pm (UTC)
Let me know how you like it! It is of the awesome.
Monday, November 26th, 2007 12:50 pm (UTC)
I will.
