This Friday's Fannish5:

Five fic cliches you're embarrassed to admit* you love.

1.) Using sex to drown out emotional noise.

2.) "I have to get you out of these wet clothes! And snuggle with you. And share body heat! Because your life is in danger! P.S. I love you and I think we should bone."

3.) Drunken/feverish confessions.

4.) Forced proximity like whoa. All varients. Trapped in a elevator! There's only one bed! Hiding in a closet! All are welcome here.

5.) Pretend!dating. Undercover!lovers. Etc.

Now I'm really sad that there doesn't seem to an active cliche bingo around. Because I would sign up in a hot minute.

*Fandom has no place for that thing normal people call shame.

Pretty close to my own list. OMG, undercover lovers or fake marrieds is just so good. The sheer reason I go for so much spy-themed fiction and fandom is because almost every single trope and cliche in it is on my list of bulletproof kinks. Also on my list? Fake kidnappings/hostage situations. Where the two spies-or-whatever in love are acting out this violent or victimizing scene and nobody knows but them that they're doing it for the thrill of putting their lives in each other's hands.

ESPIONAGE FICTION THANK YOU FOR ALL THAT YOU ARE and also for confusing my life goals enough that I have had to talk myself out of trying to be a spy because it's actually not the same at all you know seriously.

ZOMG WHERE CAN I FIND THIS?!?! :D (I'm not even entirely sure I care what fandom. Just GUH.)

Well, it's been a while since I've found it in fic, but it did occasionally pop up in Alias fic. Mostly I just write a whole bunch of repetitive kidnappings into the massive crossover self-insert crackfic multiverse that my friend and I started six years ago. I deleted all my old Alias fic because it was terrible, or I'd link you to stuff. But since there's clearly a demand other than my own kinks, I might just go back to old writing habits! ;)

I think it maybe time for you to revist that trope, possibly starring a part of master assassins?

Agreed!

And I totally second the request for any:

whatever in love are acting out this violent or victimizing scene and nobody knows but them that they're doing it for the thrill of putting their lives in each other's hands.

of this type of fic.

It's probably a good think I am legit terrible at languages or I likely would have tried to be a spy.

Okay, since there is a demand, I'm gonna start writing those tropes into my fic again. I've deleted all the old Alias fic I wrote although that was a GREAT fandom for that sort of thing.

I am not great with languages but I keep convincing myself that I am, which is why I'm teaching myself Russian right now. And I've also taken the Foreign Service Officers Test to get into the State Department, and have applied to the CIA several times, and at this point I'm about to get into a graduate program in International Affairs that has a high rate of recruitment to jobs in intelligence. I don't even genuinely want to be a spy and carry out some nationalistic colonialist mission through foreign gossip-gathering but I can't seem to stop myself. Sydney Bristow, I met you at an impressionable time in my life.

The more I ponder it, the more pivotal (or at least, ridiculously representative) I realize Alias was for my personal fic tastes!

and at this point I'm about to get into a graduate program in International Affairs that has a high rate of recruitment to jobs in intelligence.

Frankly, I'm jealous of that kind of direction. My life could use a bit more of that.
