You're All Fired

You know, I try not to bitch about ff.net because frankly, it's kind of cheap. Yes, yes, we all know the terrible, terrible fics that are there. Yes, yes, we all know that the moderators are in denial about the fact that the internet and fanfiction is for porn. And that they keep making stupid-ass rules in a vain and futile attempt to raise the bar. That said, some of the best fics I've ever read have been hosted on ff.net.

So. Given the fact that fandom has not seen fit to deliver AT LEAST twenty post-movie Bourne Legacy fics (which is a shameful, shameful oversight) I ventured onto fanfiction.net to try and find some Marta/Aaron fics.

Words can't really describe what happened to my emotions when I did that, so let me illustrate with some gifs:

So I started reading some summaries and went:

followed shortly by:

and then I attempted to actually read a couple in the hopes that their bland but grammatically correct summaries were hiding a hidden gem:

Photobucket

No dice:

So I closed my browser window, all:

Thank you! Honestly, I just want to use that Pepper/Natasha gif for everything ever.

Mrr.

If you find any worth reading, please rec.

And this is why I only ever venture over to The Pit for people I know well or for recs by people whose taste I trust. Not only are the fics bad, in some fandoms the community is just vicious and bigoted, very lowest common denominator stuff.

It really seems like a lot of people who just have no had Fandom 101 yet. And are also literally twelve.

WTH, I just watched Bourne the other day and I'm finished with my Hetbb fic. Prompt me with a first sentence for Legacy, and I'll try to write you something?

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2012-08-26 07:52 am (UTC)(link)
Seriously? That is such a sweet offer!

It takes Aaron far, far too long to realize that Marta is not chattering at him because she is nervous or flirting or thinks he needs to know why she's inordinately fond of the Baltimore system of viral classification, but because she has a fever of 102 degrees Fahrenheit.

Just to clarify, is this a prompt in which you're suggesting that Marta has viralled off herself some of those nifty enhancements? Or that's she's just sick?

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2012-08-26 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I was thinking she was just sick.

Ouch. I can get why my tiny fandom sections make me all but weep openly at the badfic and "lol I know this is in the wrong section" bullshit, but the Bourne Legacy seems like it'd be a decent-sized fandom.

Dude, AO3 (http://archiveofourown.org/tags/Bourne%20Trilogy%20(Movies)/works). Plenty to work from there.

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2012-08-26 06:39 am (UTC)(link)
Actually not. Most of those fics are for the first three Bourne movies and to be quite honest, I don't want to read fic about Jason Bourne - I was to read fic about Aaron Cross and/or Marta Shearing, of which there are SIX FICS total and I've read all of them. Which is REALLY disappointing because there is a LOT of meaty, fairly easy to explore things in the Bourne Legacy, besides it just being a kick-ass movie.

Drat.

. . . 9 fics (http://archiveofourown.org/tags/Aaron%20Cross*s*Marta%20Shearing/works) if you go under the pairing tag? And [livejournal.com profile] bournelegacyfic seems like something you could at least keep an eye on.

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2012-08-26 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it's slim pickings. And I will keep an eye on that comm.

[identity profile] whisperingwasp.livejournal.com 2012-08-26 03:12 pm (UTC)(link)
*laughs* I love how you used your GIFS to describe your dilemma. This is why I don't read fanfiction unless it's been recommended to me by someone with good taste or has been written by a favourite author of mine. It's too painful to go through all the fics.

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2012-08-26 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
*nods*

Yeah, it's not too bad if it's at a place like A03 or some comms - it's when it's the pit and EVERYTHING is bad that it just sucks.

[identity profile] whisperingwasp.livejournal.com 2012-08-27 01:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Word. Some of the best fics I've read have been pimped in LJ communities and I'm sure AO3 gets a better selection of fic because you need an invitation from that website to be a member.

[identity profile] confusedkayt.livejournal.com 2012-08-28 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
Yesssss. Why is there just.... Nothing for these guys? Their cute motorcycle handholding! The fraught ethical issues and tension involved in "would you be interested in me if you had a chance to relate to anyone in a normal way?" This is good stuff and I want to read it! At least ao3 is giving good "sex on a boat" but I want morrrrrrrre.

The fraught ethical issues and tension involved in "would you be interested in me if you had a chance to relate to anyone in a normal way?"

Plus, 'are you saying 'yes' because you feel like you owe me?' (A dynamic that could apply to both of them! BOTH. OF. THEM.) Sometimes, fandom, I don't know what to do with you.
