"Lit" being a genre just like "fantasy" and "science fiction" are genres is a subject near and dear to my heart. Which is to say, I LOVED this article.

That is a fantastic article. I honestly wouldn't be so bitter about the term "literary" if it wasn't used so often to demean "genre" fiction, when it's all a construct and it's all just a different way of telling a story.

Exactly! It's when 'lit' is used as a synonym for good that I get pissy about it. Especially because I think there are some serious subjects that the 'lit' genre is terrible at addressing but that, for example, sci-fi does brilliantly.
