Trope Meme:
Comment with a trope and I’ll give you my opinions on it. You can ask questions (as vague or specific as you like!), talk about examples, etc, etc. Then I’ll ask you about a trope.

And while we're on the subject of tropes, can I just say.... okay, look, I know that 'healing cock' gets a lot of dissing, and I understand why, BUT to be honest, I felt the sex is often pretty pivotal to my enjoyment of hurt/comfort (which I love). Like, after the hurt, I really do want to see boning, or some sexually laden act 90% of the time.
For example, I was reading this pretty decent Clint/Darcy fic in which Darcy had past emotional trauma and I was getting super into it, and there was this total slow burn thing going on, and Darcy was trusting Clint more and more, and Clint was being super-patient and expressing his lust and affection in ways make Darcy feel safe and then.... they hold hands. The end. And I was like, 'BUT WHAT ABOUT THE BONING?'
I've recced The Goat's Back before (Steve Rogers, gen, hurt/comfort) and while that fic is amazing, there was a voice in my head that shrieked, at several points, Natasha Romanoff, get on that. (That being Steve.)

Usually pretty lame, most often ends up saying sucky things about girls.
2. Bodyguard Crush.
I'm a fan. Or at least, I'm a HUGE fan of the battle due/queen x knight dynamic version of this trope. Especially when it's disgraced body guard in service to a badass lady. Have you read Sabriel? Like that.
3. Body and Host.
Thumbs down.
4. Disability super Power
When it's done like Toph, it's awesome.
5. Belligerent Sexual Tension
Thumbs up.
6. Unresolved Sexual Tension.
I like air slightly less than I like this trope.

Got any examples? The only canon!gender bent thing I've watched has been the gender bent Adventure Time episodes.

No I have not, but I'll be sure to if it includes badass ladies and disgraced body guards.
I also enjoy the Bodyguard trope in Samurai Champloo. I think it's one of the key reasons I ship the female lead with both leading protagonists.
When it's done like Toph, it's awesome.
*nods* I wish there were more characters who embodied that trope well. The only examples I can think of are Toph, Teo (although I wonder if he does count because his abilities manifest less from his disability and more his intellect) and Sara from Samurai Champloo, although things don't end well for Sara.

Ranma 1/2, which was all about how much less awesome Ranma was in his girl form, Naruto, in which sex-switching was just for fanservice.
No I have not, but I'll be sure to if it includes badass ladies and disgraced body guards.
It's an EXCELLENT read.

Eww! Certainly glad I've never watched Ranma 1/2 then. The thing that made me happy about the Adventure Time's gender bent episode was that they didn't really change Finn's personality or abilities. They also didn't make a huge deal of it when Fionna rescued Prince Gumball, which was pretty rad.
I'd have a loved a Naruto episode where Naruto had to sex-switch in order to complete a mission. I mean, sex-switching could have had a hundred and one uses, but I suppose it's typical Kishimoto could only think of the fan-service.

This trope gets a thumbs up because many of my favourite characters fit this trope. Cornelia, Marceline The Vampire Queen, Emma Frost Twilight Sparkle, Panthro, Zuko, Toph, Mai, Raven, etc. Also, who doesn’t love an emotionally damaged character that learns to trust people again?
The only scenario I think I would hate this in would be if it were made clear heroine A didn’t like hero B in a romantic sense and then did a sudden u-turn because: ‘no actually means I must have you right now!’ Get real. If you wanna make me think you’re good enough for the Ice Queen, you gotta make me believe it.
2. Fire-forged Friends
This trope gets a thumbs up because it usually results in a good fight scene and character/relationship growth. Harry Potter is a particularly good example of this.
3. The Woman Wearing the Queenly Masks
It depends on how this trope is handled. Sometimes it can be done really well and sometimes it’s handled poorly depending on how the girl is treated within the story. I think I tend to like these more when the author tries to understand WHY the character is cold and distant and allows them to be flawed (if they've had a fucked up family background) instead of providing a quick fix.
4. Fragile Speedster
A lot of my favourite characters are these so it gets a thumbs up.
5. Glacial Waif
I’m sad that Crona and Toph are the only examples of this trope in my fandom because there’s nothing I love more than seeing a seemingly defenceless person kick so much ass, particularly if it hurts someone's ego.
6. Overspecialization
This one gets a thumbs up depending on how it’s used.
On the one hand, this trope makes for realistic writing because there are a lot of people out there who only ever become specialised in one field due to time constraints, lack of resources or lack of ability.
On the one hand, TV Tropes makes the good point that Overspecialisation can look like lazy writing if the character has the time and access to learn other kinds of skills.
no subject
That is PRECISELY why I like this trope so much. Because I am a sucker for emotional shut-down people (ESPECIALLY LADIES) who end up connecting with people.
Sometimes it can be done really well and sometimes it’s handled poorly depending on how the girl is treated within the story.
For an example where it's done very, very well, you should read Queen of Attolia.

That has been on my to read list for a long time now. I blame Irrel's gorgeous fanart. I believe she made a drawing of the series title character?

She's done other drawings too if you want to check them out in her gallery. I believe the folder for that fandom is at the bottom of the gallery's sidebar.

2.) Not a fan. I love love that someone THINKS is unrequited but it turns out that it is.
3.) Not usually a big fan, simply because Cthulhu stories (and stories of that scope) are not my fav.

2) I can like it if it's done well.
3) BIG YES, this and many of the variations on it. I also like Pre-Climax Climax, and I'm not sure if there's a trope name for it, but sex where one of them is going to die soon, for whatever reason (but again, this has to be done very carefully, and I'm not interested unless there is some HARDCORE and genuine emotion going on).

Honestly, I didn't know love-rivals actually did this. I always see it with friend or family (and yeah, love rivals tend to have skeevy implications regarding the woman not having consent with who she's with when it plays out that way).

6th ranger: could be lame, if not brought into the show in a natural way. Could be AMAZING as when Cara joined the main cast of LOTS.
16th b-day: Does not even register as a trope for me.
Break the cutie: one of my least favorite ways to do character development, as it seems like there is a certain passivity built into the whole concept.
arranged marriage: not a fan. I much prefer fake!married.
badass and child duo: again, not my favorite. I prefer action parent/action child, a la Sarah and John Conner or Sydney Bristow and her 'rents.

Undercover Lovers: I think I don't like it because of much sitcom watching as a child.
Achilles in his tent: Depends on why the Achilles is angry and how the other people react before, during, and after. Going to the trope page, there is one example I remember enjoying and another I think was done well even if I didn't like it.
She Will Come For Me: Can be annoyingly cliché, but I just thought of Dawn and Buffy, and those scenes in The Gift and in Once More With Feeling are wonderful.
Dark Magical Girl: It brings out my feelings of sympathy and repulsion, and I kind of relate to it some. So I love it. Then there are the issues with femininity and how it's portrayed: seeing the part on the page about how they are usually faster, stronger, and more ruthless than the magical girl makes me think about how competent and practical female characters are portrayed compared to more idealistic ''pure and innocent" ones. And how someone who is pragmatic and female is often seen as dark and slipping off the cliff, at best.
Turn Out Like His Father: I don't like the whole 'it's in the blood' cliché, especially if the parent isn't even someone the child knew or knew about.

Noted!

Agreed. This is one of the reasons that I LOVE competent and ruthless ladies who are nonetheless clearly the heroines of the piece.
Turn Out Like His Father: I don't like the whole 'it's in the blood' cliché, especially if the parent isn't even someone the child knew or knew about.

Dating Catwoman (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DatingCatwoman)

Pretty damn overdone. It's such a cliche of fantasy (and actually has a host of other genre alternatives). And honestly, I just finished reading the latest book in a book series that had YET ANOTHER deadly decadent court (this one the MOST deadly and MOST decadent of all!) so I'm really burned out at the moment.
Magnificent Bastard
Really good villain arch-type; but tends to skew dangerously close to the karma hodinini, one of my least favorite things ever.
Dating Catwoman
NOT ONLY do I ridiculously love the trope namer (Catwoman and Catwoman/Batman) but I love all the associated tropes that tie into it: sexy catburgler, bad girl/good guy, foeyay, etc.

Nerves of steel, I'm not sure about. I like people who are competent, but I also like to see vulnerability. I think I like nerves of steel best when it's displayed by people who aren't generally prone to that.
