Per [livejournal.com profile] qualapec’s instructions, I started reading Avengers Assemble with issue 9, and loved it. I got to this scene:

and slapped my hand down on the desk as I laughed, scaring the hell out of my cat.

Am I supposed to sort of ship Hulk/Jess? Because I do.

Also, Adams peanut butter, Jess, really? (There is a joke about Jess’s taste and Clint Baron that you should be making right about now.)

I really like the set-up with the race and how inadvertently they keep making choices that make everything worse (the water, the crackers).

Carol is, as always, the best.

And I just love her face in the face in the bottom left panel:

I don't have much in detail to say about the Natasha backstory arc beyond LOVING IT.

That is EXACTLY the Natasha Romanov I am interested in - owning her life, her choices, and balancing her ledger as best she can.

Also, Clint failing at adulthood was brilliant. He didn't have groceries! He doesn't like checks!

And OF COURSE Clint has one of Natasha's markers. OF COURSE. I tell myself I don't ship comics-verse Clint/Natasha but I had a lot of feelings when I got to the last couple of pages of that comic.

Also, can someone please help me find a fic? It had Jess responding to Clint being a cheating dick by getting drunk (I distinctly remember tequila) and having sex with a totally awesome lady. I THOUGHT that she had hooked up with Carol but I read through all two pages of their ship-fic on A03 (ohmygod, such a hardship) and couldn’t find it.

Help.

I also read Spiderwoman Origins and can only express my feelings in gif form:

Domestic Hulk? The very idea is so implausible and ridiculous and wrong that it could only be hilarious.

Natasha is awesome, in all her forms. And if she's not, the writers are doing it wrong and need to be fired.

Plus Joss Whedon is amazing and I want a new Avengers movie NOW!

Or at least more Loki. I'm strange, yes, but sociopathic idiosyncracies appeal to me.

Love the Doctor Who gif from Flesh and Stone.

I love how Clint's landlord was being a dick so Clint just bought the building.

That was a good moment.

YES! I love Avengers Assemble! I'm glad you liked it. It captures the mood from the movie in a great way, it's funny, and SO MANY BAMF LADIES. DeConnick remains my favorite Marvel writer.

That was such a nice surprise when I first read AA. It makes sense that Jessica has a lot of sympathy for the Hulk since she was an experiment too.

YES. It's only two issues, but it's just so great. I love how instead of killing the lizard girl (past!Natasha would have, I think), Natasha just freaking dragged her back to civilization and let her detox, then brought her back to her mother. The whole arc was about making amends and everything that happened reflects that (I'd also almost say there's some symbolism in Natasha turning into a monster and then recovering from it after a long, painful process).

Sidenote: I love how it avoids a true love triangle trope by the fact that Natasha clearly gives zero fucks.

*nods*

Another example of Natasha's continued mission to save young ladies. And I do think past Natasha would have just killed the girl.

ALSO, not only does Natasha give zero fucks, BUT she and Jess had that nice moment towards the end. BECHEL TEST PASS!

i have probably read every carol/jess fic on ao3 and that doesn't sound familiar.

I think I was misremembering this fic, actually, and blurring my desire for Carol/Jess with this Kate/Jess fic (http://archiveofourown.org/works/703224/chapters/1296763).

i think was new though that i highly recommend. well okay not new but new to me. always falling.

Ooooh, that's a good one! Super girlfriends for the win!
