Both A Little Scared, Neither One Prepared

Saw Enchanted yesterday, which was awesome, both because the movie is hysterical and because I had an awesome audience to watch it with. *hugs you guys*

Now, however, I have the theme from Beauty & The Beast in my head.

However, despite going to sleep with Mrs. Potts singing in my head, I had horrible, easy to remember, serial killer dreams last night with Sakura.

Probably because I was reading Naruto right before I got to bed and

Oh, Gaara.

Also, while it sucks that Sakura's now 'tied' to a tree, I did like how she was immediately ready to defend Sasuke. If only she'd been a little more effective.

Also, after Sasuke's little speech about 'not losing what is dear to him again....' well, I may not thing Sakura/Sasuke is an entirely doomed relationship.

I love Enchanted. I actually prefer it to Shrek. While I like Shrek, it often seemed to cross the line between "I mock because I love" and "I mock because it's stupid."

I could possibly accept Sasuke/Sakura if a year or so of grovelling was involved. Maybe.

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2008-05-27 06:12 am (UTC)(link)
Especially in the latter Shreks. Then they really started reaching. Also, I'm still bitter about the ending of the first one.

I would love to read a fic that was Sasuke being both in character, and groveling like a dog.

Give it an arc and a half. =/

Oh, I can't wait.

Shika is my homeboy, and therefore practically the only character I care about

[identity profile] jakia.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 04:09 pm (UTC)(link)
When it comes to Naruto, so long as it doesn't interfere with my OTP (Shikamaru/Temari) I tend to not care. I usually follow to cliche pairings--SasuSaku, NaruHina, NejiTen---because there is more fanfiction out there, but if Sakura ends up with Naruto then I don't really care. So long as Shikamaru isn't banging Ino by the end of the series, I'm good. (That pairing DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE to me, but it might just be me).

If Sasuke isn't flamingly gay like his brother then I could see him loving Sakura, if only because Sakura is the only girl we've ever seen Sasuke give a shit about. I can see him wanting to marry Sakura and them having 12 kids (all girls, of course, because none of them would carry the Uchiha line and that would just make Sasuke sad).

Then again, I'm also overtly fond of Kakashi/Sakura, and Rock Lee/Sakura. I think I'd be more behind SasuSaku is Sasuke wasn't such a fucking douche. But I am a Sakura fangirl, and if Sasuke is what makes Sakura happy, then I'm behind it.

But NaruHina is cuter, IMO.

Re: Shika is my homeboy, and therefore practically the only character I care about

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2008-05-27 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
See, I have the same problems with Ino/Shikamaru that I do with Sakura/Sasuke: he seems more annoyed by her than anything else, and you don't have the hints that you do with Sasuke that he might, possibly, maybe care about her a lot.

Oh, is the Sharigan a male-only talent? That totally sucks!

So say we all. Except I always see Lee as loving Sakura more than she does him, and that breaks my heart.

Naruto/Hinata is cute, but I have a hard time wishing Naruto on anyone. That said, Hinata deserves whatever she wants.

I wouldn't think it was male only, but I assume that, like in most cultures, it's only the men that carry on the family name.

Enchanted is just a lovely film, isn't it? I adore many of the Disney Animated Films, up to the 90s, that is. I am exceptionally sad that they're moving mostly to 3D, but the new one in 2009 does give me hope. Cars and Ratatouille were both excellent films, the latter moreso, but traditional animation is just..a different sort of magic. I was delighted with the ballroom scene - mostly because of the homages and the knowledge that the Beast's formal outfit exists in real life!

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
It is a lovely film.

It's really a shame that the good scripts went to pixar and the hand drawn animation was doing nothing but crappy sequels. I hope disney manages to save itself.

[identity profile] studentrobin.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
So am I. It's looking as if this film (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Princess_and_the_Frog) may turn out to be Disney's saving grace. Considering it's already been accused of racism, that may not be a good thing. I mean, I was happy when Lasseter took over and I learned they were going to stop the sequels..but then I learned they were stopping 2D animation altogether. Please, let this not be the end of the legacy. Pixar is not bad - Ratatouille was incredible, but..it just is not the same.

If I may shed some light in this matters? (LOL I sound like such a know-it- all)

"Good scripts" didn't go to Pixar necessarily because all Pixar films to my knowledge are written and storyboarded and scripted by exclusively Pixar animators and employees. They train the ppl who knows and have good story concepts to write scripts instead of hiring scriptwriters to do their job.

Same matters in Disney but for the first ten years of Pixar (Toy Story to Ratatouille) they weren't owned by Disney. Disney had *just* bought them recently so we'll see. Coz Disney executives (the marketing people, at least from '93 to '05) are notorious with story meddling. (ie: even if the story is fine they'd argue some arbitrary point) as well as milking the cow until it's too dry to milk.

Hopefully, cause now John Lasseteer took over these things won't happen in either Piar or Disney (the crappy sequels and arbitrary story points)

I know! Oh, main, I was flinching through the whole 'calling vermin' scene.

See, I don't think I ever thought Sakura/Sasuke would be a GOOD thing, but this was the first time I saw the potential.

And there is no way that Sasuke is going to trump Kakashi 'boyfriend for Sakura.' No. Freaking. Way. In. World.

GAARA. Oh, it's amazing how almost everyone has the same reaction to that arc. It's just--ajkl;dsajkldsal THAT POOR BOY. THAT is why I adore him endlessly, because he's Naruto-Without-Team-Seven.

For me, Sakura/Sasuke is one of those pairings that sounds good for a few chapters, and then you realise it's just Not Going To Work. Unfortunately so, because even I can admit that he genuinely cares for her in this arc. Sasuke just as too much DESTINY and other crap tied up with him that it seems nearly impossible for him to be in any relationship.

I think I have an abnormal reaction to Gaara in that arc. On the one hand, I guess I do sort of feel sorry for him, but on the other I'm too busy laughing because his backstory is so incredibly over-the-top dramatically tragic. Kishimoto just tried way too hard, there, and the end result read like a very dark comedy to me.

Yes. When he's trying to slit his wrists? Oh man. I mean, they totally made that blatant, but know I understand the whole 'killing to be alive' and his whole personality. I really want to get more interaction with his siblings and their backstory, like, what was happening from their perspective, because you know their dad wasn't doing a good job of raising them, their mother is dead, and they have this spoiled/dangerous brother.

Family dinners must have been fun

I don't ship it, and I don't think it would work, but for the first time I could see potential, you know? This is the first time that I actually felt that Sasuke cared about her at all, which was nice.

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2008-05-27 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
Also, I forgot to mention, I was reading the part where you're seeing all the images of the past teams, and how Naruto's dad taught Kakashi, etc, and getting all wibbly.

And randomly, do you know that/if the Japanese have a word for pumpkin or scarecrow? Thanks.

I don't think Sasuke and Sakura is necessarily doomed, but it does have a lot stacked against it at this point, IMHO. I don't know if Sasuke will ever be able to get close to anyone again.

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2008-05-27 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
*nods*

I have relationships where one side clearly cares more than the other, and I think Sasuke would hurt Sakura so much, just by accident.

At my writing journal. (http://eos-dawn-aurora.livejournal.com/2932.html#cutid1) (It's gone through a few mutations, and recently got glued onto my as-yet-unfinished Kaka/Saku longfic. I think the chapter stands fine on it's own though.)

Yeah, every once in a while he seems to have a moment of clarity, usually when Naruto is involved. NaruSasu, OTP! XD

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, no, you didn't!

First of all, I asked, and secondly, I am SO spoiled for Naruto. [livejournal.com profile] enderxenocide is a big fan, and she told me lots about it when I was like, 'so tell me about your addiction, while I feel smug knowing that I'm never going to spent the time to read 400 chapters to get my heart ripped out of my chest.'

I am SO, SO spoiled for Naruto. I knew stuff about Itachi and how that play out before I saw the fox demon get sealed in Naruto. ^_^
