How easy writing smut is.

I mean, you have Kakashi, who is older (can't imagine he's not a virgin - like, my mind gets a 404 error when I try to envision that) and reads porn all the time.

And then you have Sakura, who is a practicing medic in a ninja village ("so... you got the sebon..... there.... by doing what?"), so she knows the ins and out of the human body very, very well. Plus in my head she reads racy yaoi manga she steals from Ino. And as a bonus, Sakura has that nice, vocal id running around her head.

It's SO NICE not to worry about people being polite during ...lovemaking (Hakkai x Yaone) or having to friggin DANCE to give the characters SOME CLUE as to what's going on (Katara x Zuko.)

With Kakashi x Sakura, it's straight to the racy, raunchy bits.

*knocks on wood, so as not to offend the smut gods*

On the subject, I find it very, very interesting that while the Hakkai that lives in my head... loves umeboshi, the Kakashi in my head is very, very.... good with his hands.

There's some truth to this argument.

Back in the beginning of Buffy season 7, I wrote Buffy/CrazySoulSpike smut and it was my first smut and even though I was way old enough to be writing it, I got all shy and nervous and couldn't read it after I posted it, even though it was mostly figurative language rather than pron.

Then a few years later, I write my Zuko/Katara de-virgining Bluetara fic, and while I was more confident in writing that, I still got neurotic and nervous and super-sensitive crazy about it. My beta had to be like "I was nice! I swear I was super nice! Don't be afraid!" ...that was also the second time I ever had a beta, so that could also have contributed to nervousness.

Then a mere year later, I got into Kakashi/Sakura, and you know what my first kakasaku fic is? Kakashi's perverted x-rated fantasy of teen Sakura going down on him. Which I felt no nervousness AT ALL for writing. I had fun writing it, playing with what's real or what's illusion in Kakashi's head. I was excited, not nervous, to post it.

So yep, they *are* hot and it's ridiculously easy to imagine good smut fic for them.

*sighs nostaglially*

I remember that fic. Ah, Kakashi. He's one of the few characters who you can go 'total sex god' and it makes sense and it's super easy to write.

And this narrative of smut cracks me up.

For me it was:

Hakkai x Yaone - two super polite people doing not-so-polite things.

Gojyo x Yaone - one punk and one very polite lady having sex.

Zuko x Katara - two virgins in a bed

And then BAM! Kakashi/Sakura, and the smut comes like manna from heaven.

Gojyo? Is that Saiyuki? I tried to watch Saiyuki... I got 15 episodes in and quit in boredom. But I know many people adore it.

He's one of the few characters who you can go 'total sex god' and it makes sense and it's super easy to write

It's easy to assume ninjas are automatically fit and have high endurance, and then with Kakashi it's the fact that he can supposedly memorize any "technique"... it's easy to make him into a "great in bed" type.

Although, there was one funny line from HIMYM about Barney that I thought could be easily applied to Fanon Sex God Kakashi...

Lily: "She had just as much sex with Barney as Barney had with her."
Robin: "You know what? I'm not sure that's true."

I'm not quite certain I know exactly what that even means, but I can kind of imagine Sakura saying that about Kakashi.

And this narrative of smut cracks me up.

Funny thing, I went back and reread that 800 word Spuffy smut fic (http://www.allaboutspike.com/fic.html?id=411) and it's actually MORE porny than I remember. I must have whitewashed it in my memory.

The manga of Saiyuki is way, way better. Just saying.

And that Spuffy fic is nice! I love the reveal that he's crazy at the end - you do good crazy spike dialogue. And you're probably white-washing it to preserve the image of you as young and innocent. ^_^

Hell yeah. And I hadn't even thought of the memorization of techniques - I was just thinking of the reading.

On that subject of heath and stamnia, I would LOVE to read a fic where someone was commenting about Temari and Shikamaru's sex life, going, basically, "Don't you think Shikamaru's too lazy to get it up? ...But Temari's not the type to go without." To which someone comments: "I'm sure he just closes his eyes and thinks of Konoha."

I bought the first volume of the manga, and then I think I sold it to someone else because I didn't care for it. ::shrug::

And you're probably white-washing it to preserve the image of you as young and innocent.

2003? I was... 19. Hm. A very interesting age.

you do good crazy spike dialogue.

I loved crazy Spike...except for how my heart kept breaking for him I always felt awkward writing him in the first place because of the whole British thing (ha! I had not yet discovered Doctor Who), but I felt with Crazy Spike I could just throw in all sorts of random shit, toss in some Victorian sexual guilt, add a few "Englishy" words and stir! It seems to work well. Plus with crazy characters you can layer in as much symbolism and multi-layered threads as you want, and it doesn't have to make sense within the context of the conversation. I love that freedom.

"I'm sure he just closes his eyes and thinks of Konoha."

 Icon it! I'd use that icon, absolutely.

Oh, the first volume sucks. The art and story don't get good until you find out Hakkai's backstory, and then it doesn't get really, really addicting until about... the sixth volume, when Gojyo's first arc kicks in, and it's amazing.

Which is not to say that you must must must read it, because if it's not clicking, there is no need to try and force it.

And if I had any skill at iconning at all, I would.

The only smut I've ever written is Katara/Zuko, but I definitely see your point.

... You know, now I'd love to see an awkward virgin Kakashi fic. Not with Sakura, but back in the day when he lost his.

And totally random, but that icon is made of awesome.

You know, I can't see Kakashi losing in virginity in any way except this:

and then this happened:

WARNING: these will break your heart.

I actually heard about this icon before I was even reading Naruto, and was so pleased when I came across it.

D: D: D:

... Yeah, it could have happened. Although part of me thinks that the poor kid had enough to deal with as it was. (Also--and these are very well written exceptions--I'm a little tired of seeing the "raped on a mission" trope).

These days Kakashi just makes me laugh. I know he has an intensely tragic past, but so much about him is... I can't imagine his inner dialogue as anything other than hilarious. It shows in Physician; I have to tone myself down a little bit (eventually he'll have his own "why so serious?" moments, but Sakura's got the brunt of them for the time being). So I really, really want to see an awkward Kakashi-losing-his-virginity fic. Maybe I'll have to write it myself.

Frankly, I'm thrilled to read GUYS getting raped on a mission, or having to have sex and not be happy about it.

I see that SO much with the all the girls, and I get so very, very tired out it. (Like, even though I think it makes a lot of sense character-wise for Ino, I hate how you NEVER see her doing anything else.) I like a little role-reversal, so I'm fond of the guys having to deal with that.

So I really, really want to see an awkward Kakashi-losing-his-virginity fic. Maybe I'll have to write it myself.

I would LOVE it if you wrote that. So very much.

Please don't encourage my plot bunnies. They're multiplying like, well, rabbits enough as it is.
Saturday, August 16th, 2008 05:43 am (UTC)
But if I don't encourage you, you won't write. (Or might not.)

Smut used to make me more nervous. But then I had my run of writing Hakkai x Yaone in various and sundry ways, and then I was doing Yaone x Gojyo in various sundry ways, and that really helped me stop angsting about the smut itself.

(I mean, I still worry about how GOOD it is, and whether I'm being effective, and as I mentioned, writing for Zuko and Katara is harder than writing for Kakashi and Sakura.)

I bet Suki's *full* of creative stories and "insights", having a large group of girlfriends. I can imagine Katara and her giggling over boy stuff. It's almost too bad Suki didn't join them earlier, when there could have been time for her and Katara to be shown becoming friends.

I can imagine that writing smut for adults would be easier than writing smut for teenagers

I think it's easier to write 'in character' if they're adults... the easiest way to write smut for teens in a not-porny show (like ATLA) is to make it humorous or parody, which takes the characters into OOC territory. ...Except possibly Sokka and Suki in season 3, for which it might NOT be OOC....

Umeboshi? *wonders if she really wants to know*

I don't write smut (and I try my best not to read it either) but I'm pretty sure that if I ever did, I'd be suuuuper nervous about it and would probably end up feeling extremely guilty for writing it. I mean, I wrote a semi-suggestive NejiTen fic the other day and I felt pretty anxious whenever I got a review for it. I kept feeling like I might offend someone even though nothing actually happens in it (a kiss is pretty much it). It's not really my style, you know, so I didn't want to offend anyone.

In Saiyuki, there was an interview with the characters where they were talking about foods they like, and whether or not they like umeboshi, or how they like it served. The funny thing being, that umeboshi is often used as a metaphor for female genitalia.

And smut is one of those things that's nerving the first time, and then gets easier and easier (in my experience.)

... That's what she said.

It was there. I had to.

I almost did myself.
