My Plan Is Sheer Elegance In Its Simplicity

My elderly, demented cat managed to keep both my mother and I awake for hours this evening/early, early morning. Which is just cruel considering that I have to get up extra early TODAY to hand off my mother's car to the people who just bought it.

And then I have to go to work.

So here's where I need your help, flist. Please comment on this post so that I have a reason to open my bleary eyes for longer than it takes to turn off my alarm clock. I figure if I wake up to some comments, I'll read them, semi-wake up, and manage to stumble to the shower.

Question About Fictional Statements Of Platonic Emotions

When a male character says, "I love her like a sister/she's like a sister to me," do you, as a reader, ever believe them?

Because so far, each time that has happened (in various texts) my instinctive response (regardless of ship preferences) is, yeah right.
