For the first time in months, I had a Saturday off.

A glorious, glorious evening to do nothing but relax and chat with my flist. Seriously, if you're in the mood to talk fandom, ask questions about shipping, share cute/sexy/funny/eye candy gifs, this is the post for you. (And I'm also going to be hanging close to the computer tomorrow as well, so if you're out having an amazingly fun Saturday night, come chat on Sunday. I'll still be in the mood to gab.)

Things that are going on in my life, to get the conversational ball rolling:

~I went and did this amazing self-defense seminar today. It was amazing and I am going to have some glorious bruises tomorrow. (Frankly, you can already see them.)

~I rewatched Tangled with my mom (she hadn't seen it yet). It was just as adorable as it was the first time and I think Flynn and Rapunzel make a fabulous couple.

~I may go get ice cream. In fact, I think I shall.

~I have been looking at upfront trailers for the upcoming fall season and frankly, I have only seen two that even look worth checking out:

This look funny but also distressingly close to what my life could be this fall.

No idea what this is about but I'm actually intrigued.

All the rest, frankly, look various flavors of boring.

~But that's okay, because in the next two months BURN NOTICE, HAVEN, AND TRUE BLOOD ARE RETURNING. Sing hallelujah.

~In fact, I'm so excited about the new season of TB, that I'm rereading Dead Until Dark. Which, frankly, I have a suspicion I can no longer recommend as a qualitatively good vampire story, even though I retain a lot of affection for it. Your thoughts, flist?

My elderly, demented cat managed to keep both my mother and I awake for hours this evening/early, early morning. Which is just cruel considering that I have to get up extra early TODAY to hand off my mother's car to the people who just bought it.

And then I have to go to work.

So here's where I need your help, flist. Please comment on this post so that I have a reason to open my bleary eyes for longer than it takes to turn off my alarm clock. I figure if I wake up to some comments, I'll read them, semi-wake up, and manage to stumble to the shower.

Things that I'm loving right now/random topics of conversation:

The Middleman.

Books.

Sweet potatoes.

Luna bars.

Texts from last night.

Zombie apocalypses.

Money.

The fact that I work on Valentine's Day.

Legend of the Seeker.

Kahlan/Richard.

Icons.

Katniss Everdeen.

First point of order: I'm doing a lot of gardening right now, and besides rocking tunes, it's really helpful to have some entertaining talk-radio for a change of pace. I'm usually quite pleased with This American Life and I just discovered The Moth's Podcast (live stories told without notes) and NPR's pop culture hour, which I'm really enjoying. What other audio entertainment would you suggest? I tend to like things that are either narrative or talking about narrative, although I wouldn't be opposed to a good news segment that I could put on my iPod easily.

*sigh*

I'm also about to bake a blackberry cake for a friend's birthday and want to chat with people, so... talk to me, flist?

(I know, my Friday nights are so wild, right?)

First, etiquette question:

When you're at a bake sale, where there are no prices and people just tell you to donate "whatever," do you have a rule of thumb? Like, a dollar for two cookies? Thirty cents for a brownie? Do you give more and feel guilty? Give less and feel shafted?

Personally, how much I give usually depends on how supportive I feel about the charity/group in question and how guilty I feel about eating sweets that day.

On the subject of sugary treats, I'm going to be baking heart-shaped chocolate chip cookies for Valentine's Day, and I was wondering if anyone had advice about rolling them out. Basically, I'm wondering if I should put slightly less flour into them than I usually do because they'll be rolled out in flour? Also, do you think chilling the dough before I roll it out would help, or just make things more difficult?

I am making Cream Biscuits at 4:00 am in the morning and I have not woken my mother up yet.

You don't know what the acoustics in my house are like, so you can't understand what an epic achievement this is. Seriously, you can hear a penny drop in the kitchen from across the house.

I tip-toed into my room to sift the flour because I knew it would wake mom up if I didn't.

I feel so badass and girly right now, I can't even tell you.
