It should have stuck with what made it great; awesome characters solving mysteries and slowly done realistic relationship growth.

OMFG I know, right? I watched it on TV a couple years ago and went "O_O Whoa... how the hell did I miss this?" I mean, almost the entire show is dedicated to lesbian love. Although Xena obviously still enjoys the mens from time to time. The episode I watched was them in some other reality where Xena was married to some Cesaer kind of d00d and the ep was dedicated to Gabby being in love as usual and Xena being all angsty with her over them not being able to be together.
Also, Max fighting in Dark Angel FTW.

I used to watch it on the weekends when I was a little kid, and honestly didn't think of Xena as anything very special, seeing as I was being raised by a six-foot mighty Amazon at the time (I love my mother--and my dad, for that matter). I still remember the moment in high school when I passed a TV at the health club that was playing an episode with them in a bath together and thought, flabbergasted and inexplicably delighted--Hey! They're in love, aren't they!
I didn't have much chance to watch it since then, but I got reinspired last year and I'm loving the awesome 90's camp and epic love story more with every episode. Oh, Xena. ♥

Yes. I run across it over, and over again, along with Sai illustrating it (I love how people ignore the fact that it's a NOVEL and not MANGA.) And Ino would be SO GOOD as a smutty novel writer. So good.

Too true XD I was witness to that in real life, oddly enough. A couple I've been friends with for years lost their shit over whether or not there was room on the counter for a waffle iron, and Why the fuck do you need a waffle iron!? And so on...for three hours.
Is it mentioned specifically as a novel? I always figured it was a manga volume series, but my attention to details like that in Naruto is hazy at best...
Ooo Rin being a cousin or something of the Inuzuka clan would be SO COOL. Too bad she is the female!filler character of Kakashi's past and therefore will never, ever be elaborated on. (see: Tenten)

As for Jiraiya's novels... we've seen snippets of them and we've seen him writing them, and they were always clearly novels and he was always writing prose, yet people keep acting like he was writing manga.

Shinji is from Neon Genis Evangelion, which is a classic anime, and really, really adult. From the very first episode it was clear that it was made by adults for adults, which still fulfilling the requirements of a mecha anime.
