*stares* *coughs politely* This seems like a wonderful writer's resource.

A little bit off topic (actually, quite a bit) but I just watched Legend of the Seeker and I have a craving for some High Fantasy. I'm kind of looking for something that I've never encountered before, and something that isn't quite as long as the actual Seeker novels. Do you have any good recs? If not, thanks anyway *smiles*

Have you tried early Patrica Briggs? I'm thinking of Steal the Dragon and When Demons Walk in particular.

I've glanced at early Patricia Briggs. For some reason, whenever I read them, it feels like the characters are overacting in my head. But I can't remember which ones I glanced at specifically, so I'll totally look at the ones you mentioned. Thanks!

Yeah...I don't know what got into her with her last book, Hunting Ground, which is another Alpha and Omega novel. I really liked the first one...but Hunting Ground made Anna's entire life about Charles, and although he was more open with her than he was with most people...he still felt WAY too cold to earn that kind of affection. Briggs totally dropped the ball on that one. I kind of figured I'd mention it because I remember reccing the first Alpha and Omega book quite highly. Sorry.

That's okay. I may still read the first one. Although that just adds to me conviction that Briggs just should not write urban fantasy.

As for other recs... if you can handle super dark fantasy, I'd suggest you give Daughter of the Blood a try. Also, Martha Well's Fall of the Ile-Rien trilogy, first book is The Wizard Hunters.

Oh! I know. Robin Mckinley's The Blue Sword and The Hero and the Crown.

Also, for really fun fantasy, check out Howl's Moving Castle and the Enchanted Forest Chronicles.

And Garth Nix's Sabriel.
