This Is An Entry To Prove I Can Actually Still Be In A Good Mood

First off,

Happy Birthday [profile] hireadd!

I'm not sure when exactly it is, but I just wanted to get that out there. I hope you have a great day, and get awesome presents and the cake is awesome. (How old are you turning again?)

Also, I had a nice backlog of Girl Genius to read, and I'd forgotten how much fun that series is when you can just read a chuck at a time - what a great flow it has really shows. Plus the humor is able to really shine. [info]mzminola, we must discuss.

First of all, Lars! Poor Lars. I love Agatha's rant about how they hurt her friends and the Jager's bringing his body and saying, 'when you bury him, make sure he has a hat.'

Gil! I loved Gil talking first about his project and then going to his father, and being all heir to the Evil Empire. I think Gilgamesh intellectually knows what a tyrant his father is but doesn't emotionally. Still, that's a father/son dynamic that I love.

And regarding that guy who saved the Baron and Dupree? Oh my god was that story hilarious. He just kept getting so beat up and damaged and I would have left Dupree to die so many times over. ^_^

Agatha, as always, was awesome. And I'd adore a coffee machine that would make coffee that tasted as good as it smelled.

Also, I need someone to stop me.

So at the gym today I'm remembering a Draco/Hermione story that won an award called the 'I Never Loved You Anyway' award and I was thinking 'what a great title for a story that would be' and made a mental note to write that down for when I find a story to write it to. Then I come across [info]un_love_you which happens to have the best prompts ever:

01 You were right about me
02 I was wrong about you
03 This cancels out the hurt
04 I need to want you
05 You can be like me
06 I want to need you
07 Prove it
08 I'm cruel
09 Always wondered what this'd be like
10 I'm broken
11 Thought I needed this
12 I'm drunk
13 I want to hurt you
14 I'm awake and you're breathing
15 This is my desperation in action
16 I want to break you
17 Wish I didn't love you
18 I pity you
19 This isn't about you at all
20 I hate you, you bitch
21 You'll do
22 I hate myself
23 You remind me of me
24 I want you to hate me
25 You remind me of someone
26 I can be like you
27 Author's Choice
28 Author's Choice
29 Author's Choice
30 Author's Choice

And my muse, the bitch, gives me snippets of Goyjo x Yaone for every. single. prompt. on there. And I'm like, tests! Outstanding memes! Sleep!

And my muse goes: Gojyo x Yaone!

And I'm like, no, be realistic, you don't want to go over ground [info]nimblnymph's already doing, and my mind goes, how to be different? And comes up with a totally dissimilar set-up and is all, 'write me!'

So someone needs to be really convincing and tell me not to sign up for that pairing for this comm.

I totally blame finals for this: if I actually had time to write what I already have planned, I wouldn't have this horrible temptation to write more things. Plus we all know stress = fic. It's one of those defense mechanisms. Like how you get a cold and suddenly have an rp account, or you have nightmares and insomnia and get a second one.

Also, this icon is hilarious. And considering me and my inflexible positions on slash, you know what that means. ^_^

i'll say this. They are great prompts. However, even if 30 stories doesn't sound like a lot, it is. I suppose if you do drabbles...(which I've been reduced to for [livejournal.com profile] smut_69) it wouldn't be so bad. But as [livejournal.com profile] mjules and i found out with [livejournal.com profile] 30kisses even a story a month equates to over two years of commitment

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2007-06-10 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, drabbles are our friends. And good point about the 2 years thin\g. *ponders*

Muse: I don't do commitment.
[livejournal.com profile] redbrunja: Yes! Finally an argument that works!
Muse: but remember that 50 prompt thing you're involved in? That's half done and it's only been a month and a half!
[livejournal.com profile] redbrunja: You unholy bitch.

Oh, and what 30 kiss pairing did you and mjules do?

[identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com 2007-06-10 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
FMA, ROy/Maes (pretty much the only slash i've ever written in 30 years of fandom, and now those damn saiyuki boys)

drabbles are good but i like to do longer things (look at how many stories i have over 50 pages...) i've decided no more challenge comms over 10 stories long

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2007-06-10 06:51 am (UTC)(link)
10 stories sounds like a really reasonable number. (Muse: but <lj user="un_love_you" .has 'This is my desperation in action." Me: "I hate you, you bitch.") I really like doing stories between drabbles and fifty pages. That way the stories seem managable to write, but I can tell a good story.

[identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com 2007-06-10 01:18 pm (UTC)(link)
nods, yeah I hear you. Drabbles are hard. I've been in a BUffy drabble comm for years now jsut practicing how to write short

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2007-06-10 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
With actual exactly 100 word stories I spend fifteen minutes writing the body of it and then 30 minutes cutting it down. ^_^ But they're still quicker than some of the first they do this, and then they do this and then this happens stories that sometimes appear in my head and beg me to write them. (Muse: like the G x Y- me: SHUT IT!)

[identity profile] cornerofmadness.livejournal.com 2007-06-10 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
i know what you mean

[identity profile] fairest1.livejournal.com 2007-06-09 01:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I have to admit, it's been a while since I read GG for the first time in chunks.

*considers* Since they stopped having the individual issues come out, approximately.

I still think Klaus is less of a tyrant and more of a parent to the entire region, trying to keep his children from acting up in stupid ways. He doesn't do a thing about the plays or songs that speak against him. This is particularly notable after the bit where Philbert mentioned he was in prison for including the prince in his stories.

As for the other, tell your muse you'll write it when you finish up with the other outstanding stuff.

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2007-06-10 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
We've had the Klaus discussion before. I'll just say, while it could be much, much worse, I think the fact that you have assasin but no one besides Gil actually worried about him (like the average man on the street) I think it's safe to say that the people don't like him and his government that much.

[identity profile] fairest1.livejournal.com 2007-06-10 11:57 am (UTC)(link)
It sounds like they're not letting the average man in the street know that Klaus is hurt that badly. And the fact that, to keep down the level of assasins, they'd discourage letting anyone know about the situation. Only spies and those who would want to take down the big tyrant to become tyrants themselves would make their way in. People don't like him, sure, but the dislike remains at low levels, like anyone who bitches about their governement -- no matter what form it takes and no matter how well it's run.

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2007-06-12 02:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I wonder what it would be like to bitch about a government that's well run. *imagines*

[identity profile] fairest1.livejournal.com 2007-06-12 02:05 pm (UTC)(link)
There will always be those who think the government isn't doing enough for them. "Sure, we're at peace with our neighbours and the economy's doing well, but do you see them doing anything about that huge pothole on my street? The government doesn't really care about us at all!"

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2007-06-14 05:59 am (UTC)(link)
True, but however awesome Klaus is, I have a feeling his subjects have a little more cause for compaint than that.

[identity profile] fairest1.livejournal.com 2007-06-14 11:37 am (UTC)(link)
I haven't really seen anything. The wastelands can be nasty, and the roads aren't always safe, but these were problems that were around since long before Klaus came to power.

The thing is, it's a world where the Spark with the biggest gun rules. If it became a democracy, the people would just vote for the guy with the biggest gun (who would likely threaten to destroy them all if they didn't vote for him).

Sure, Klaus has an interest in dissecting human brains in the name of science, but he only chooses subjects who are inherently dangerous to the world and shouldn't be set free at all. Given the casual dismissal the average spark has over civilian casualties, that's quite respectful of him.

What's Klaus done that's really all that bad?

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2007-06-17 08:10 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, I have a feeling you're not going to agree about Klaus, because I'm looking at it from an ideal world perspecive and you're seeing how much worse it could be.

And you're right about that, I think Klaus is a hell of a lot better than a number of other people would be.

Okay, first of all, it's implied that when the Heterodyne boys were about, he was quite the villain; at the very least he was holding his own with the woman who became/was the Other. Gil and Agatha have both explictly said that the Baron position is an "evil overlord" position, if I recall the phrase they used correctly.

Klaus seems to have no problem with carpet-bombing cities to make sure he rule remains unchallanged, and while part of that might be the necessity of making sure The Other doesn't take over, part of it is keeping his government stable.

He doesn't seem to have a problem with Dupree murdering as long as she isn't too over the top about it.

I have a feeling that Klaus isn't really picky aobut his the subjects for his experiments, and while he's not a sadistic, he still doesn't care that he's going to be causing someone else excrucating pain, which is almost worse. Furthermore, he killed Adam and Lilith, not to mention Lars, and would have destroyed a traveling circus just for not killing Agatha, who he wants to kill.

So,while Klaus is better than the average psychotic spark, and I actually like he quite a lot, I don't nessecarily think he should be ruling.

[identity profile] fairest1.livejournal.com 2007-06-17 01:37 pm (UTC)(link)
But the ideal world scenerio doesn't actually work in an actual world; people will inevitably muck everything up.

Actually, the backstory says that when the Heterodyne boys were about, Klaus was right alongside them, working together to fight the good fight. He had a fling with Lucrenzia -- and severely disapproved of her actions.

When Klaus carpetbombs cities, he does so because there's something dangerous within -- most of the citizens being servants of the Other seems to qualify (and you'll note that Agatha and Gil have both said they'd rather die than be in that state, so it's not all that horrible).

He keeps DuPree in line as much as he can; and even at her worst, he knows she'd be even more dangerous if she was just off on her own.

He didn't kill Adam and Lilith; Von Pinn did. Lars just stood in the way while he was attempting to kill what he thought was the Other. He has no problem with Agatha -- it's Lucrenzia he wants to take out, because he knows just how dangerous she can be.

Well . . . if Klaus wasn't in his position, who do you think should be in charge? What system do you think could actually work here?

[identity profile] lightprincess89.livejournal.com 2007-06-09 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
She's 14!!!! AAAAHHHHH!!!!! She can't be!!!! AAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2007-06-10 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
I have an easier time imagining her as 14 than when she was 12 and I was 18 and she was so mature and writing slash.

[identity profile] mzminola.livejournal.com 2007-06-09 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Crash!Bang!Boom! "Hooray!"
That would be an awesome coffee machine. We'll have to flail at eachother when you get back. By the way, do you know when that will be, and are you bringing my brother with you? please email if you don't want to say online, we'd like to know.

Innnteresting prompts. I might stash those away for future reference.
Silly icon.

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2007-06-09 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
We definatly must flail.

I'm getting back late on Friday, but I would talk to your parents about when the Boy gets back - his finals are done Wendsday and he told me that people would be driving up to help him move back down. (Apparently, sans boxes, which makes the organized part of my being cringe.)

Those prompts are very interesting. And the icon just makes me chuckle.

[identity profile] mzminola.livejournal.com 2007-06-09 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
With tea and much gesturing with spoons.

Ah! I'd heard something like that- I couldn't help with the move because I've a class that evening.
Hope your trip back goes smoothly!

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2007-06-10 06:53 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sure the trip back will be pretty smooth. My grandmother's coming up with the van to help us, so I'm not worried about trying to fit everything into the subaru.

At this point I'm fantasizing about packing. That should tell you how ready I am to be done. ^_^

The 11th. *nods*

Yeah, I had a feeling a couple people on my flist would enjoy that icon.
