To be honest, the one example of this trope I can think of (Green Lantern: The Animated Series) which is basically ‘how to use this trope to COMPLETELY DESTROY PREVIOUSLY COHERENT AND INTERESTING CHARACTERIZATION.’

What trope/characterization detail I wish more people would write is ‘evil can love, too’, a la Kate Argent, who is unquestionably a villain but also clearly loves and wants to both protect and educate her niece Allison.

Also, linking to tv tropes without a warning? Tsk, tsk, that’s a dangerous game.
