I'm currently in the last leg of Nano and I'm going to write up some thoughts on What I've Learned So Far. With gifs, because gifs make everything more fun.

My to-do list this evening
  1. work on my nano novel
  2. laundry
  3. think about how awesomely competent and sexy Clint and Natasha are
  4. balance my checkbook.
  5. Reply to emails and comments
  6. Lament the fact that nobody writes the kind of Regina/Emma that I want to read.
Minus the laundry, that is going to be my to-do list for Sunday as well.

Which is to say, random comments are totally appreciated.

  • If Steve/Darcy becomes one of those pairings that I absolutely love but can't write, I am going to be annoyed.
  • But regardless, come talk to be. I'm slowly chipping away at my nano (5,000 words behind schedule!) and I have to work tomorrow.
  • The reason I work tomorrow is that I had my shift covered by a friend on Friday, so I could do a bunch of really boring adult things. Including clothes shopping, which is a fucking hellish experience. I love having new clothes, I fucking hate shopping for them.

Speaking personally, my nano is actually, shockingly, still on track. But come Dec 1st, good goddamn I going to write so much self-indulgent, smutty fanfiction. And finish my current crop of wips.

I know there is no way that I could offer holiday fics for people this year (on the plus side, though, my nano novel is on track which is a thing of amazement and joy) but I really love this variant from [livejournal.com profile] torigates:

SO. Request a day and a topic and I will talk about anything you want. Likely at length! Obviously topics I actually know about are preferable, but pretty much anything you want is fair game, and I will wax poetic about why it is great. It'll be fun! (Protip: my tags and my icons are always great ways to get ideas for fandoms that I'm familiar with.)

Writing a sex scene between my two main characters is a perfectly acceptable way to get my daily word count, right?

Right.

So all my talk about cheating on Nano? And getting a head-start on my novel? I ended up needing to scrap everything I had written prior to November 1st. It's a damn good thing I love irony, isn't it?

I had started my story in the wrong place - which I knew even while writing - I knew that I was starting to story too far back from when it actually began but I wasn't sure where exactly to start... until someone on my flist (I can't remember who) reminded me of Jennifer Crusie's conflict box and I realized that:
  1. I did not have an antagonist (still don't, actually)
  2. There was lots of external peril but no actual conflict in the stuff I was writing
So, yeah, I moved the story up (what would be) eight scenes and thus the previous words I've written are now irrelevant.

Also, does anyone have any good advice on how to discover who your antagonist is/should be?

I am totally cheating on nano and doing some preliminary outlining, writing, world-building, etc.

My story is going to be set in a world inspired but very much not western-front WWII.

Any suggestions on how to name countries/languages so that people are like, 'oh, that's the analogue to England/Germany/etc' without using the RL name?
