The Majority Of This Post Is Stolen Whole-Cloth From Octopedingenue

Except this, which is another example of why it literally makes me see red when I hear girls say they aren't feminists. Like, what, you want to to be paid 3/4 or less of what a man is for the same amount of work while simultaneously spitting on everything you mother did to get you where you are now? Get the hell out of my gender. (And yes, I DO understand some of the stereotypes that are attached to the word 'feminist' but what it actually means is that you think men and women are equal, and disassociating yourself from that is a HUGE step backward, imho.)

On a happier note, check out the translation of the book Rue drops in episode 5 of Princess Tutu. (Translation is in the comments.) Now, I wibble a lot over Rue, but this just makes me wibble harder.

Also, this is totally a Fakir song:

I'm a feminist in terms of gender equality. ^^; I honestly think that for the most part, the two genders have the capacity to be completely equal, and that everyone has their choices in life, so if we can just eliminate gender roles, we'll be happier in the long run. Any other definition of feminism I do not agree with.

The video is incredibly amusing. ^^; The song I've always associated with Fakir is "Mockingbird Song" by D.C. Simpson

Free Download on the artist's site: http://music.download.com/dcsimpson/3600-8575_32-101035171.html
Lyrics: http://www.simpsonmusic.org/shiveralbum/mockingbird-lyrics.txt

(Not sure who the speaker would be. Duck?)

Also, EEE! Translated "Prince and the Raven" sentences! Yay, yay, awesome! Also, yes, that does make one feel even more empathy for Rue . . .

I'm a feminist in terms of gender equality

AND THAT IS WHAT FEMINIST REALLY MEANS! IT IS NOT A DIRTY WORD, PEOPLE!

I believe that everyone should be equal and that both genders had the capacity to fulfil each and every role in our society and also that, guess what, as un pc as it is, there ARE some biological and phsiological differences between men and women and THAT IS OKAY and that it DOESN'T MAKE ONE GENDER BETTER OR WORSE.

And I'll totally give that song a listen when I'm at a computer where I can.

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Also, I had linked to the wrong video. The video is amusing, but has nothing at all to do with Fakir. Sorry.

[identity profile] ryanitenebrae.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 08:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, there is a vocal minority that supports feminine superiority, and these people get more attention due to being crazy. Also, there's feminism in terms of fiction, but that's a whole other basket of tuna.

That's what I assumed. It's a great car commercial, but I figure Fakir didn't design it. (Fakir: Writing the Automobile into existence?)

That song is lovely, and I definitely agree.

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, and I kinda feel that abandoming the word because of the crazy!fringe is dumb and disrespects all our foremothers did for us, you know?

See, I can understand choosing to call ones self an 'equalist' intead of a feminist, but I have to admit to a visceral, gut reaction of being annoyed with how many women are setting aside the word feminist.

Paritally because I feel that it disassocaites with all our foremothers who fought for the rights we all have, and partially because I feel that it somehow implicitly implies that sexism is... less of a blatant, specific problem than it is.

Now, I'm not saying that men don't have unfair things to deal with regarding our culture, but they certainly don't have anywhere near the systematic pressures against them that women do.

And nothing gets me more frustrated than girls going, 'I'm not a feminist' with no codial, or instead of 'I actually label myself as...'

And Rue just gets more and more huggable as the series goes on.

And I just want to add, because I'm afraid that this comes off more... instructive? than I want it to, that this is all only my personal reasons for referring to myself this way.

Don't worry, I totally get it.

Bleah. I've seen enough girls do that, especially in a "the boys like me because I'm not one of those feminists" way, that I can understand the frustration. Ladies, respecting yourselves should not be that stigmatic.

Yes! God! That! It makes me crazy! It's like, you can be a feminist and a.) like boys and b.) shave your legs. Trust me on this; I know whereof I speak.

[identity profile] iapetusneume.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 07:38 pm (UTC)(link)
There are so many different kinds of feminism, and that's part of the problem. I like to think that the women who say they aren't feminists are saying they aren't the 'bad' sort - the stereotype. I often don't call myself one for this reason. I always tell people I'm for equal rights, and that covers all my bases. I want equal rights for everyone, not just those of my gender.

But I know exactly what you're saying. I really don't understand the women who honestly believe they're second-class.

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
This is true, but I feel like that is abandoning a good word and a good cause to the crazies.

But I know exactly what you're saying. I really don't understand the women who honestly believe they're second-class.

Most of the time, I know they don't. It's that they a.) don't realize there is still sexism and b.) take for granted the rights that they do have and c.) are dumb.

I can't stand that shit about "not being a feminist" either. They're thinking of bra-burning, all-sex-is-rape, female-superiority feminism, which was like two generations of feminism ago and at least 40 years old. People bring it up these days as an excuse to call organizations like NOW hysterical and run all current feminist ideals into the ground.

It's like Ann Coulter. If I ever saw that demon-spawn, I'd tell her "if you think women should sit down and shut up, do everyone with a vagina a favor and sit down and shut up."

Argh bargh ranting in ur el jay.

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2009-01-23 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
I know, it pissed me off royally. I need a goddamned t-shirt that says 'FEMINIST' across the back in big letters.

Goddamn. It just misses me off so much that people act like sexism is gone.

My friend has a t-shirt that says "this is what a feminist looks like." It's pretty awesome.

I wanted to make some sarcastic comment about how sexism went away ages ago involving making someone a sammich, but you know, I'm just too damned pissy to make jokes. Just pretend I did.

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2009-01-23 07:00 am (UTC)(link)
I need one of those.

And your joke is noted.

there's a storm coming

[identity profile] rashaka.livejournal.com 2009-01-23 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
I know everyone's all on about feminism, but you know my feelings on the topic, so I'm going to jump straight to Fakir talk!

1. Yes, this is a great song. It's on my list of character songs I associate with PT.

2. In my head, Fakir the writer grows up to pen popular works of fiction. The Last Unicorn? So totally Fakir. The Wizard of Oz? That was him too. Except, in an unwritten fanfic that is burned across the back of my eyelids, the story of Oz is real.

Without the weight of the Raven and the Prince's curse, Kinkan Town has been transformed into a booming economy of green glass and shining crystal, the center of art, music, dance, and beauty. But the higher the buildings rise, more love was drained from the inhabitants, so corruption might fester. Drosselmeyer is a Wizard now, fat and cackling in his tower. Mytho is a doll stuffed with straw, because when his body could not contain his spirit any longer he had to trade more than just his mind. In the face of slow-approaching doom Rue bleeds away her once-bottomless well of courage until she fears the very night she once commanded. And Fakir...

Fakir has lost his heart.

And it's all starting all over again. There are power lines in our bloodlines.

Really? I don't remember that conversation.

Anyway, that would make a FANTASTIC crossover story.

Really? I don't remember that conversation.

Well, just general "yeah, go feminism! people are stupid" sentiment, really. I thought I'd brought of feminism at some point, or that it was obvious through my fandom tastes, but sometimes I get LJ conversations mixed up so who knows.

Re: there's a storm coming

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2009-01-24 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, I just wanted to double check. I was afraid we'd had this big long 'this is way I hate the word feminism conversation' that I'd subsequently forgotten because it was so ooc for you.

[identity profile] the-sun-is-up.livejournal.com 2009-01-23 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
OMG THAT IS LIKE MY BIGGEST PET PEEVE EVER! People who are clearly feminists but refuse to refer to themselves as such because they're wusses and are afraid that others will judge them. >:C

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2009-01-23 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
YES!

It makes me think SO BADLY of them - I'm not sure if they're just afraid to be judged or honestly don't know what the world 'feminism' actually means.
