Prophecy Boy

I finished the third Percy Jackson novel, The Titan's Curse, and really enjoyed it, despite the sad lack of Annabeth. (And I am going to be so disappointed if we don't get an epic Annabeth/Luke show-down.)

What I did love was the way that the prophecy is being handled. I adore that Percy is making a conscious choice to be The Chosen One - it's something I've never seen in fiction before.

The whole section where he holds up the sky was also appropriately epic.

In other news, I've started watching Castle again (I'm up to episode 2x15). I really adore it when Beckett fangirls about things - it's such a nice character note, and really makes her stand out from other well-tailored, by-the-book law enforcement ladies. Also, Alexis fails at Bondage Safety 101. Someone should give that girl a few lessons.

And now that our daily moment of inappropriateness is over, on to the 30-Day Shipper Meme:

Day 01 - What is your current favourite ship
Day 02 - What was your very first ship?
Day 03 - A pairing that needs to happen now?
Day 04 - The pairing with the most chemistry?
Day 05 - The pairing with the least chemistry?

Day 06 - The best kiss?
Day 07 - The most heartbreaking scene?

Day 08 - The pairing with the most baggage?
Day 09 - The most believable relationship?
Day 10 - Why aren't these two married in real life?
Day 11 - What is your dream pairing?
Day 12 - Who had the best wedding?

Day 13 - What is your favorite television pairing?

Day 14 - What is your favorite book pairing?
Day 15 - What is your favorite real life pairing?

Day 16 - What is the absolute worst pairing?
Day 17 - A pairing you thought would never work out, but did?
Day 18 - What is the cutest pairing?

Day 19 - A pairing you've rooted for since the beginning?

Let's be honest: there are a lot. If I define this as pairings that I a.) shipped from the first episode/book and b.) never shipped either character seriously with anyone else you have:

Sydney/Vaugh, Jack/Irina
Brennan/Booth
Kitty/Cormac
Max/Logan
Kahlan/Richard
Parker/Hardison
Elizabeth/Will
Sabriel/Touchstone
Soul/Maka
Harry Dresden/Karrin Murphy
Eric/Jaye

Day 20 - The "can't stand the sexual tension anymore" pairing?

I puzzled greatly over what pairing to put here but talking about books made me realize the only answer I could give, the only pairing where it almost physically hurts that they're not together:

Cormac/Kitty from Carrie Vaugh's Kitty & The Midnight Hour book series. (AKA one of my favorite ongoing urban fantasy series.) I'm trying to imagine how to put this into fandom terms everyone can understand.

Okay, think about Dean Winchester: hot, good with guns, hunter of thing that go bump in the night. Now imagine that Winry Rockbell is a twenty-something music geek werewolf with her own radio show.

That is Cormac and Kitty. Now imagine that their meet cute is when he's hired to kill her while she's on the air... and she talks him down, they achieve a grudging detenté, and then over the next several books, she grows to think of him like her pack. And then - oh my god I don't think my heart can take it - Cormac's best friend/cousin is attacked by a werewolf and while Cormac's behind bars he admits to her that he sometimes wishes his cousin had died, because he knows that if that had happened, he and Kitty would have become lovers. Instead, she's shacked up with his cousin and marries him while Cormac is in jail.

I just... I just... they make me so flail-y, you guys! So flaily.

Day 21 - A pairing you like and no one else understands why?
Day 22 - A pairing you hate and no one else understands why?
Day 23 - A crazy love triangle/quadrilateral that worked out great?
Day 24 - A crazy love triangle/quadrilateral that worked out badly?
Day 25 - A pairing that was/would-be adorable, but could never work out?
Day 26 - A pairing that you hated and ended up loving?
Day 27 - A pairing that you loved and ended up hating?
Day 28 - A pairing that you will never understand?
Day 29 - What ship had the best proposal?
Day 30 - Your favorite ship forever and ever and ever?

I HIGHLY recommend them as well. I've read all five of them myself, and for a pre-teenish series, they're very well-written, in my opinion. I'm really looking forward to his new series that comes out in October, which is supposed to be pretty similar to the Percy Jackson series, but will deal with new characters, as well as old ones. In any case, the Percy Jackson books are a great read! :)

*grins* I'm ALWAYS willing to recommend a book out to someone, stranger or not! I think that there are far too many people today who don't read enough, so if I can suggest a good read that makes them want to and actually read it, I've done my job. :D

And we sorta are but aren't strangers, lol. I've seen you around on two fandoms that we share in common, Merlin and A:TLA, as more often than not, I usually just lurk. :)

It would be great if you did! I always want more people to talk about books with.

TRIPLING THE RECOMMENDATION

just 'cause I love you

if not for the awesome plot/characters, then at the very least for the hilarious way he updates Greek mythology. Apollo, I love him and his red convertible so hard.

Yes, Parker/Hardison! They are too adorable and I will forever associate them with locks and pretzels.

Word.

I was shocked at how much I loved the Percy Jackson series, and this part here:

The whole section where he holds up the sky was also appropriately epic.

Is when I knew I adored them. Just wonderful stuff . Love 'em. I haven't posted because I read them all together (well, not the last one yet) and I don't want to inadvertently spoil you.

I just got the fourth book today, so in a few days we can go nuts talking about them. ^_^

[identity profile] arabian.livejournal.com 2010-09-21 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
Whee! I'm finally #2 in the queue for the 5th book. Yeehaw!! Can't wait to get it. :)

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2010-09-23 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
I'm number 7th on the list. ^_^

And being on vacation (as the nanny, LOL!) I missed it. I think I'm going to just buy the set. This job pays me well enough, and I really love the books.

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2010-09-27 07:47 am (UTC)(link)
They're definitely quite rereadable.

[identity profile] meganbmoore.livejournal.com 2010-09-20 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I wasn't bothered by the lack of Annabeth because most of the cast of the book is female, and the story was mostly Thalia, Zoe, and (to a lesser extent) Artemis's, and because the next book is mostly focused on Annabeth.

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2010-09-21 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, the ladies certainly weren't absent in this book! It's just that she's my fav character, so when she's gone I miss her.

I felt very silly for not noticing the Harry/Murphy elements until Harry's Subconscious pretty much says "You need to hit that" in book 3 (I think). Especially since they are who I'm totally rooting for now.

I'm almost through season 1 of Legend of the Seeker and wow, Richard and Kaelen both need to get laid. With each other. Being a confessor is a total cockblock of doom. (Though I do admit I wish they had taken more time to figure out their feelings.)

Yeah, Butcher is SUCH a freaking ship-tease.

Being a confessor is a total cockblock of doom.

That is totally the name of the game. Although for a couple that isn't supposed to touch, well...

*WAILS*

WHY MUST YOU BE SO BEHIND ON CASTLE?!?!

I want so badly to talk to SOMEONE about the new season premiere, and I can't because you're like the only person on my flist who watches it.

*crawls into corner*

*implode from massive fangirling*

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2010-09-21 04:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Because I got bored in the middle of season two and moved to other things?

And in a case of Castle-approved irony, I was just telling myself to slow down and enjoy having a backlog of episodes to watch. Just about everything else is on a week-by-week basis.

[identity profile] nimblnymph.livejournal.com 2010-09-22 10:53 am (UTC)(link)
Ahhh... Yes, clever. The weekly wait thing IS a bit of a killer -- and yes, the pun was intended.

Which episode are you on, out of curiousity? There were quite a few in the last half of the season that were really, really good.

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2010-09-24 07:38 am (UTC)(link)
I just finished episode twenty, so it won't be too long until I'm all caught up with where you are.

[identity profile] rosegilmore.livejournal.com 2010-09-21 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm so glad you are reading the percy jackson series!! Not gonna spoil you, but i do not think you will be disappointed in this series.

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2010-09-22 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
Sweet! That is always fantastic to hear.

[identity profile] bentfire.livejournal.com 2010-09-22 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG, Kitty and the Midnight Hour! I read the first two or three books years ago and could not for the life of me remember the title, and it's been bugging me for months now. So glad you mentioned it! And yes, Cormac/Kitty = awesome.

I wish that I had read the Percy Jackson books more slowly; aside from the first one, all the others blend together for me. IIRC, the last two books were the best. The fight scenes just got more and more amazing.

I love hearing that. There is nothing like a series that improves with age.
