Comment to this post, and I will list seven things I want you to talk about. They might make sense or they might be totally random. Then post that list, with your commentary, to your journal. Other people can get lists from you, and the meme merrily perpetuates itself.

[livejournal.com profile] erethesunrises asked me about....

1. Discuss why Emma Swan is awesome.

BECAUSE SHE MAKES EPIC FACES. She had amazing leather jackets and occupies a role that is usually masculine in most of her relationships. Emma's reaction to the craziness of Storybrooke plus the fact that she's apparently made every bad choice in the book of bad choices (more about that, please, show) do endear her to me, even I'm not super-emotionally invested in her as a character.

2. Favorite Pratchett novel?

Going Postal. I laugh SO MUCH reading that book. At one point I was reading a particularly funny part to my mother and stopped, and she was like, 'no, no, keep reading!'

3. Sell Battlestar Galactica to me.

There is this total badass called Kara 'Starbuck' Thrace who drinks, smokes, gambles, and screws, is the best shot in the fleet in or out of the cockpit, and has a complicated subtextual father-daughter relationship with her commander and a complicated romance with her by-the-book direct superior officer.

4. If you could live in space, would you?

No.

5. Would you rather have it rain for be absurdly hot (like 90s, 100s hot) for most of the year?

I live in the northwest, so clearly I would go for rain over heat. (Even though I really wish that we had proper seasons.)

6. Favorite song in Dr. Horrible?

On The Rise.

7. Discuss Mattie and Laboeuf's relationship in True Grit (because I totally saw the sexual tension there).

I honestly don't know how anyone could watch the movie and not see the glimmer of something there. I mean, jesus christ, one of the first conversations they have involves him talking about kissing her. (Which, admittedly, is kind of creepy considering her age.) I think it's clear that as the movie goes on they begin to really respect each other, and Laboeuf was clearly important enough to her that in the end, that she never heard from him deserved to be mentioned in a very fond way.

Seven things from [livejournal.com profile] crickets....

1. I feel like you ship a lot of canon pairings: do you find that to be true? Are there any non-canon pairings that you love or do you have any trends/rules about pairings you follow? Have you ever broken them?

Yes. I ship a lot of canon pairings, and certainly more than I did earlier in my fandom career. I’ve found that the less a couple interacts, the less fun it is for me to ship them. So I don’t have as many random, these-characters-met-twice ships they way I once did. That said, for me the key is interaction in general, not that the writers are deliberately writing a couple in a romantic way. So I have a far amount of enemy!ships and ships where while it’s inarguable that the two characters have a relationship but it’s often not intentionally romantic/sexual. So, yes, there are a ton of technically noncanon pairings that I love. I don’t have any hard-and-fast shipping rules but as for trends…. The aforementioned enemy!ships, may/December romances, emotionally detached violent girl x more emotionally open dude are ship types that show up over and over and over.

2. Talk to me a little bit about fandom and privacy. Are you fandom interactions something your family/friends know about or is it something that you keep mostly secret? (For instance, they may know generalities, but not specifics.)

I am pretty closeted with my fandom interactions. There are several people who, years again, I told my lj name, and I kind of regret it. At this point, people in my real life know I’m a geek and into books and science fiction and fantasy and talk a lot about entertainment, but NOT that I have a livejournal or write fanfic.

3. If you could re-write any storyline on Lost, which would it be and how would it end?

I’ve never actually watched LOST but part of me would really like to watch at least the first season… Evangeline Lilly and Josh Halloway are both terrible face-wise and I subsequently have some AMAZING icons for them.

4. If you could go back and re-live any time/day/moment in your life. What would it be? (Would you change anything, or just leave things as they happened?)

The answer to this is super-personal but suffice it to say I would change things.

5. If you could be best friends with any fictional character, who would you pick?

Sha Goyjo. I SO need an adventurous badboy in my life. Even as a completely platonic friend. Plus, I think I have enough in common (personality-wise) with his best friend Hakkai that he’d really enjoy hanging out with me.

6. What is your greatest fandom weakness? (What can't you resist?)

I am a sucker for a bad boy with a heart of gold. I know, I’m so ashamed but I can’t help it!

7. Do you have any guilty pleasure tv shows? What are they?

I feel like either none of my tv shows are guilty pleasures or ALL of the are. What I would describe as a legitimate guilty pleasure would be romantic comedies. When I’m in a certain mood, there is just nothing better, and I get far more emotionally invested then the movies probably deserve.

[livejournal.com profile] scorpiod1 wanted me to talk about.....

1. Top 5 Favorite Ladies in fiction (I suppose you could either do of all of time, or just at the moment?)

Of the moment, because otherwise I am going to be totally stumped by this questions: Regina Mills, Daenerys Stormborn, Kahlan Amnell, Leslie Knope, Sansa Stark.

2. What do you currently want to write?

Original fiction-wise, I am working on revising an sword-and-sorcery short story set in the arctic. My current in-progress fanfic is a Belle/Mr. Gold fic that is currently refusing to get to the part with the sex.

3. Favorite comfort food, pictures optional :D

Haagen Dazs coffee and/or dulce de leche ice cream.

4. Best and worst fandom you've ever been in?

Best fandom was Legend of the Seeker (and things in the Once fandom are currently pretty rosy). Worst was Avatar.

5. Talk to me about your things for queens.

I don't know! I suddenly looked around, and BOOM, some of the characters I was most invested in (Regina, Dany, Sansa, Snow White) all had arc that related to being royalty.

6. Favorite tropes in fiction? Or tropes that just press your buttons?

Well, I have a whole tag devoted to bulletproof kinks.... hmmm... right now I am really craving some good 'one bed at the inn/let's get you out of these wet clothes' fics. Classic cliches are classic for a reason.

7. Books you really really enjoy reading no matter what :)

Any one of the Kate Daniels books, Into The Storm by Suzanne Brockman, Faking It by Jennifer Crusie.

I agree with you about canon pairings - the pairings I tend to go for don't always end up being confirmed in canon, but they do tend to have a great deal of some kind of interaction. I just don't go for ships where I'm grasping at straws or filling in to many blanks. I mean, I like to fill in the blanks but I also just like faces in proximity to other faces. I'm a physicality stan so, you know, I need people to be in actual scenes together. I don't really crackship based on philosophical pondering.

Yeah, I used to, but it just got less and less fun. At this point, I see a cross-over and I roll my eyes a little bit.
