Your Top 5 Questions Answered

Top 5 Partners

First of all, I have a tendency to partner-ship. Good and entertaining partnerships have a lot of the things I look for in romantic relationships: trust, banter, and there are usually guns involved.

1.) Charlie/Reese. What I love about this partnership is that it's an odd couple done really, really well. Reese doesn't like Charlie when they first met, and she doesn't like him when she first decides to keep him on the force. It's only later that they slowly start to become friends (and even Charlie, who was much more superficially friendly in the pilot, needed time to actually trust Dani). That slow building of the relationship made Reese's verbal smack-down of Charlie's old partner in the finale especially satisfying.

2.) Nathan/Audrey. These two are freaking adorable together. What I especially love is that they dynamic has a strong romantic and platonic vein. Sure, you have things like Nathan kissing the shapeshifter wearing Audrey's body and then shooting it (NOT LIKE I'VE WATCHED THAT A MILLION TIMES OR ANYTHING) and then you have Audrey getting Nathan dates and teasing him about his skill with woman and wearing the dumb clothes he buys her.

3.) Middleman/Wendy. They save the world together.

4.) Mary and Marshall. I don't ship these two romantically anymore (frankly, Marshall deserves someone who things he hangs the moon and isn't afraid to show him) but I love their gruff, abrasive friendship, and the way that they tease each other but have each other's back. The show makes it clear that not only are these two really effective when they work together but they have a friendship off company time.

5.) Touchstone and Sabriel. This is kind of pushing the definition of partners but they certainly weren't friends when Sabriel saved Touchstone's life and then they went and defeated a necromancer together.

Top 5 Vampires

1.) Caroline Forbes. God, what to say about Caroline? She's amazing and she tries so hard and she cares so much and gives 110% and just wants to be someone's first choice.

2.) Damon Salvatore. Look, I'm not proud of that, okay?

3.) William "Spike" The Bloody. a.k.a, the seminal snarky, semi-evil, fucking hot vampire of my fictional-tastes development.

4.) Jessica Hamby. The single, most-well constructed character arc on True Blood. There have been times when I've only watched the show to find out what was happening with her.

5.) Ivy Tamwood

Top 5 Female Friendships

1.) Cara and Kahlan.

2.) Lorelai and Rory

3.) Temperance and Angela

4.) Inara and Kaylee

5.) Bonnie x Elena x Caroline

Top 5 Friendships

1.) Troy and Abed

2.) Harry x Ron x Hermion

3.) Barney x Ted x Marshall x Lily x Robin.

4.) Sam and Fi.

5.) John and Sarah

I'll be honest: I have a tendency to think in more romantic than platonic lines, so these two questions were a challenge!

Top 5 Female Villains

Medusa. I love a manipulative, crazy bitch who can convince the heroes to help her, betray them, get a powerful, and come out on top.

Mother Gothel. Her emotional abuse was almost too realistic for Disney, imho.

Mags Bennet. When even her own family isn't safe from her....

Darla. I think they did a fabulous job of showing hints of other aspects of Darla's personality while never back off on what a scary, fierce bitch she was. (Honorable Mention: Drusilla)

Evil, Alternate Universe Wendy Watson. The sign of a true hero is the fact that her alter-ego is out to destroy the world.

Top five OTPs!

Okay, there are the pairings that I just can't quit - the ones that even when I don't want to ship them or think I should move on, I still love to pieces.

Damon/Elena
Jeff/Annie
Barney/Robin
Richard/Kahlan
Mal/Inara

Top Five Currently Airing Shows

Okay, this is a slightly biased question, given that several shows have just wrapped, leaving me vaguely disappointed, and several shows have not yet started with new episodes, leaving me hopeful and optimistic.

So I'm going to answer this question in a completely un-5-things format.

Things I will be watching this fall: HIMYM, Nikita, TVD, Justified.

Things I am bouncing off the walls waiting for new episodes: Haven, True Blood, and Burn Notice.

Top five unexpected canon pairings

Veronica/Logan (as in, I actually saw an image of the kiss, but thought it was faked.)

Alisha/future!Simon. (If I hadn't been spoiled, I would have shrieked.)

Lanie/Esposito

....That's honestly all I can think of. It's pretty rare for writers NOT to telegraph their intentions a bit.

Top Five Disney/Pixar Movies.

Beauty & The Beast

Mulan

Aladdin

Tangled

The Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl

Top Five Guilty Pleasures

(Be they shows, movies, books, manga... whatever. )

I defined 'guilty pleasures' as media that is not good enough I'd feel comfortable reccing it to just about anyone.

True Blood/Sookie Stackhouse

Nora Roberts novels.

Haven (I love this show, but I don't know if it's actually well-crafted enough for me to rec to the general public.)

Legend of the Seeker. (Again, I love this show, but the dialogue...)

Secret Diary of a Call Girl (like True Blood, when I'm watching this show I make sure no one can see my computer screen.)

Top Five Shows That Need More Fandom Love

Haven. (Why is there only Nathan/Audrey fanfic? Why have I ready every. single. one of them? Why am I contemplating going into the Pit for more? Help me, flist, you're my only hope.)

Nikita (Do you have any idea how hard it is to find icons for this show? So hard.)

Burn Notice

How I Met Your Mother (again, with the almost fruitless icon search.)

Justified (truly unbelievably tiny fandom or maybe I'm just spoiled.)

There's Haven fic with various pairings, but if you're looking for gen fic . . . I might be able to help you.

[identity profile] fairest1.livejournal.com 2011-05-25 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Also you should know that this (http://tftfn.tumblr.com/) exists.

But this fic (http://donutville.livejournal.com/62505.html) is excellent. Shows how the Teagues manage to actually report on events in town without sounding like a tabloid.

Please do!

And what do you think of Alex's emotional arc this season and potential arc for next season?

2.) Damon Salvatore. Look, I'm not proud of that, okay?

Hahahaha, story of my life.

It's pretty rare for writers NOT to telegraph their intentions a bit.

So true. But damn do I value a well-crafted surprise. I DIED with Alisha and future!Simon hooked up, lol.

It's fast becoming the story of mine.

I can't imagine how shocking that must have been unspoiled.

2.) Damon Salvatore. Look, I'm not proud of that, okay?

LOL, IS ANYONE?

Love your choice of vamps overall.

Secret Diary of a Call Girl (like True Blood, when I'm watching this show I make sure no one can see my computer screen.)

Bahaha, word.

2.) Damon Salvatore. Look, I'm not proud of that, okay?

LOL, IS ANYONE?

I kind of hope not, but I know some fans who love him with a disturbing amount of unconditional with their love.

[identity profile] ever-neutral.livejournal.com 2011-05-29 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
lol, well, I do love Damon near-unconditionally, inasfar as I love him for... how undeserving of love he often is? If that makes sense. But. Um. Caring about Damon isn't exactly the height of fun. Like, seriously, why couldn't I just have been a Lexi stan?

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2011-05-30 07:25 am (UTC)(link)
how undeserving of love he often is?

That's the key right there. It's the people who love him AND think everything he does is a-okay that freak me out.

[identity profile] ivy-chan.livejournal.com 2011-05-25 02:12 pm (UTC)(link)
You know, I was dead set against watching Tangled, but the approval of my flist makes me want to change my mind. (Also, partner ships ftw!)

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2011-05-27 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Because of Disney's attempt to sell the movie to boys? Let me say, LITERALLY the second line of the movie is, the male character going, 'This story isn't about me, it's about a girl named Rapunzel.' And the film bears that out. So basically, rebrand all you want, Disney, the filmmakers knew what movie they were making.

[identity profile] whisperingwasp.livejournal.com 2011-05-25 02:27 pm (UTC)(link)
1.) Troy and Abed

2.) Harry x Ron x Hermion

3.) Barney x Ted x Marshall x Lily x Robin.

Definitely agree that these three are great friendships. I've only watched a few episodes of Community but even I can see that Troy and Abed have great onscreen chemistry.

Mother Gothel. Her emotional abuse was almost too realistic for Disney, imho.

I was surprised that Disney let the villain be that emotionally close enough to the heroine for her to exact her abuse on Rapunzel. Usually Disney villains have no prior relationship to the protagonist at all or have a horrible one right from the outset so it was nice to see Disney take on a new challenge.

They really do. Some of my favorite lines of the show come from this duo.

I think Scar was pretty close to Simba, emotionally-speaking, but they definitely took that to new lengths with Mother Gothel. (I mean, just look at the name - there is no 'step' in there and though the whole film the heroine refers to her as mother.)

[identity profile] whisperingwasp.livejournal.com 2011-05-28 08:40 am (UTC)(link)
Ha, I completely forgot about the Lion King even though it's one of my favourite movies of all time. You do make a good point though, Scar's betrayal is made even more terrible by the fact that he was Simba's favourite Uncle although I don't think Simba and Scar were ever as close as Mother Gothel and Rapunzel were.

Alisha/future!Simon. (If I hadn't been spoiled, I would have shrieked.)

Right?! That was unexpected, but I knew about it, too, before, from pictures. But still, GREAT!

For Nikita icons, have you checked [livejournal.com profile] kankonkine? I got mine from there. ;)

[identity profile] redbrunja.livejournal.com 2011-05-29 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
Definitely great. And I haven't checked out kankonkin, but I totally will now.

What is the Haven Pit? Why am I reccing it to the general public? Maybe I just like the characters a ton :) And I think the twist at the end of S1 is going to make for an interesting S2. Fun, too.

Mother Gothel was legitimately disturbing D:

What is the Haven Pit?

I meant The Pit aka fanfiction.net.

Why am I reccing it to the general public? Maybe I just like the characters a ton :)

Because you are less afraid of people judging you? Because I am incredibly self-conscious about the things I love?

And I think the twist at the end of S1 is going to make for an interesting S2. Fun, too.

Agreed. I think if this show gets a couple of seasons we'll see a real increase in the straight-up quality of the show.

I tried to touch the small fandom Justified has and got a boatload of hate for all the women. UGH. I need a circle of fans who can think.

Sadly, yes. I remember being really frustrated with some of the comments on the main comms.

THAT POOR HORSE!

Or how about how apparently you can only like EITHER Winona or Ava? But not both.

(I still desperately want fic where Winona and Ava get drunk in a bar together and have a great time, which just prove I DO FANDOM WRONG.)

Re: wait let's do that again with the proper gif

I think that's from the Black Beauty story where the horse is escaping his imprisonment on a damaged ship or something so I just always contented myself with the belief that the horse was going FUCK THIS SHIT I'M DONE I'M OUT and swimming off to a paradise island.

Oh, but didn't you know? THERE CAN ~ONLY BE ONE~ gagcoughgag

Haha I already wrote 'Ava and Carole in a bar', so Winona and Ava in a bar should be a cinch; I'd really love for them to play off of each other in-show, because despite/along with Raylan as a hurdle or whatever there's a lot of meat going on there - Winona's initial friendliness and curiousity and lack of jealousy ("did you screw things up with her?") Ava's discomfort in her home but near-raw honesty peeking through, the class tensions that I think were acknowledged a little bit in episode 12, the fledgling respect the text has implied lies between them...

Also I want to write a fic where Winona wakes up Ava, getting her into bed and taking the handcuffs off (even though Raylan would have done it, shut up logic) and Ava is sleepy and possibly already a little hungover and Winona takes care of her. Because Winona can be quite a nurturer when she and Raylan aren't spitting sparks off of each other and I love that dynamic between ladies, especially with the unfamiliarity and the tension. I LOVE THIS SHOW, BUT MORE LADY-CENTRIC BUSINESS PLZTHNX.

I completely agree. I think there is a lot of things between Ava and Winona that could be stumbling blocks - the class tensions, Raylan – but likewise, there are a lot of things to explore and I think once they relaxed with each other a bit, they'd get along like a house on fire.

lso I want to write a fic where Winona wakes up Ava, getting her into bed and taking the handcuffs off (even though Raylan would have done it, shut up logic) and Ava is sleepy and possibly already a little hungover and Winona takes care of her.

THAT WOULD BE SO AWESOME.

Also, sidenote, but I really love that stock icon you used on your first comment.

I know there's a lot going on in the show like, at all times, and their storylines hardly intersect, but I really want them to get that chance. And I know the actresses do too - I loved that article you linked, where they talked about how awesome it was to play with/against the other women on the show.

So preeeeetty. I think I might have stolen it from your icon page at some point!

Since you say they're still one of your ships... Did you see the massive ficlet battle in the Jeff/Annie comm two weeks ago (http://milady-milord.livejournal.com/840255.html#comments)? I wrote 11 shorts (two Firefly crossovers). The person who won...wrote 28. Some of them are crazy prompts and there were quite a few crossover requests. That link goes to the round up page.
