Top Five Currently Airing Shows

Okay, this is a slightly biased question, given that several shows have just wrapped, leaving me vaguely disappointed, and several shows have not yet started with new episodes, leaving me hopeful and optimistic.

So I'm going to answer this question in a completely un-5-things format.

It's TVD-Thursday and since we have no new episode, I figured this would be a good time to write up my thoughts on last week's.

But first, I want to comment on this week's Chuck. I don't watch Chuck anymore, but my mom has a standing order to call me in whenever Sarah is wearing thigh-high boots and can I just say? Best. Bank Robbery. Ever. And Lauren Cohen? Looked amazing. Seriously, her hair, makeup, and costume people on TVD made terrible choices.

Now, onto The House Guest

1. Write down the names of 10 characters.
2. Write a fic of fifteen words or less for every prompt, using the characters determined by the numbers. Do NOT read the prompts before you do step 1.

1 Cara
2 Richard
3 Zed
4 Buffy Summers
5 Chuck
6 Rose Tyler
7 Amelia Pond
8 The Eleventh Doctor
9 Ted Mosby
10 Pepper Potts

So, I watched Chuck tonight. On the actual television. It was fun. I don't really have much to say beyond that.

And then I did a meme.

I quit Chuck after season two, but I'm still downloading episodes for my mother. Well, this week I read a spoiler that make me want to watch the episode, so I'm in the process of doing that. However, there was a line that pissed me off so much that I had to post.

Sarah says: Chuck vs The Tick-Tac )

Seriously, I almost threw up. Although that could have been the thirteen onion rings I ate an hour ago.

Also sickening is the fact that their is a Wesley/Andrew community on livejournal but not a Wesley/Fred on. Fandom, how so cruel?

Compared with that, j's new navigation bar is just very, very annoying. Why would I want to go to friends of my friends with one click when I can't got to my friends with one click?

What 5 characters perform their actual jobs well? (Characters from Clerks need not apply.)

My competency-kink combined with my lack of patience with people who AREN'T good at their job makes this a really easy question to answer. That said, there are five people who I think are scarily competent at their jobs (in no particular order):

Jack Bristow, Temperence Brennan, Michael Westen, Nyota Uhura, and the epic Adelle deWitt.

Normally these shipping memes are kind of 'well, duh' but since I've recently gotten into new fandoms and have not been writing fic... I think my flist will find, if not suprising answers, answers they've haven't heard before.

Six ships you are into right now:

o1. Adelle/Dominic (Dollhouse)
o2. Kahlan/Richard (Legend of the Seeker)
o3. Will/Emma (Glee)
o4. Victor/Sierra (Dollhouse)
o5. Ried/JJ (Criminal Minds
o6. Kantiss/Peeta (The Hunger Games)

three ships you liked but don't like/aren't a rabid fangirl for anymore:

Which totally does not mean I ship these characters with anyone else, ever. I'm just not actively reading them atm.

o7. Kakashi/Sakura (Naruto)
o8. Angela/Hodgins (Bones)
o9. Sarah/Chuck (Chuck)

four ships you never liked

1o. Will/Terri (Glee)
11. Cara/Richard (Legend of the Seeker)
12. Parker/Eliot (Leverage)
13. Kaylee/Mal (Firefly)

two ships you're curious about, but don't actually ship

14. Kahlan/Cara (Legend of the Seeker)
15. Rachel/Puck (Glee)

Then I realized my competency kink would make it hard. (That's what he said.)

Last week's [livejournal.com profile] fannish5 : Name 5 characters who should be fired from their jobs.

1.) Sweets

2.) Chuck, from Chuck. And by 'fired' I mean 'I can't believe the CIA hasn't put a bullet in his head already.'

3.) Snape. I mean, really, does anyone actually learn from him? (And I have much fondness for Snape, fyi)

4.) Sheriff Lamb. I don't think I need to explain, do I?

5.) The dudes of Star Trek. WHY DO YOU ALL KEEP LEAVING YOUR FREAKING POSTS?

 From this week's [livejournal.com profile] fannish5 :

List five characters you'd want on your side in any kind of trouble. Bonus points for assembling an "Action Team" with complementary skills.

1.) Jack Bristow

2.) Elizabeth Swann

3.) Sophie Deveraux

4.) Sarah Walker

5.) Max Guvera

I would want to have one of these individuals by my side no matter what kind of trouble I was in. However, this would make a terrible team, because with the exception of Sophie and Sarah, these people are not good at taking orders. And Sarah wouldn't take order from anyone on this list except Jack.

Name five fictional workplaces where you would like to be employed.

1.) The Jeffersonian. Sure, the people there have no concept of professional/personal boundaries, but I'd never be bored and I'd get free psychoanalysis. Would actually isn't a bonus, since I have no respect for Sweet's skillz. But that office is full of eyecandy.

2.) The BAU. In real life, I have considered how awesome it would be to work for them. The downside is that I would never sleep again.

3.) Mac's. Good food, interesting clientele.

4.) Caritos. Who wouldn't want to work for Lorne?
5.) The Orange, Orange. Good uniforms and badass weapons ever in the freezer.

Okay, who on my flist watches Chuck? Show of hands, please.

If you don't, let me pimp for a moment. Chuck is show about a guy named Chuck (surprise, surprise), who was kicked out of college, had his girlfriend stolen by his best friend, and has been working at a dead-end computer repair job at Buy More for the last five years. Then his former best friend sends him an email that uploads the entire NSA and CIA databases into his head.

Why you should watch this show:

-it's Get Smart meets Alias

-it only gets better in the second season.

- it has platonic, familial, and romantic relationships, and all of them are treated as important.

-the writing is consistently top-notch.

- it's funny. And honestly funny, not fake sitcom funny.

-it's dramatic. When they want to rip your heart out, they do.

-Adam Baldwin.

-fantastic action sequences. In which the main heroine kicks so much ass.

-great outfits.

Now, if anyone on my flist has actually watched this show, I would love to squee about it in all it's spoilery glory and find out what other people thing about the game-changer finale.

[livejournal.com profile] fannish5 asks:

Name the five unlikeliest (but successful) canon friendships.

1.) Sokka & Zuko. Never in a million years would I have seen that coming.

2.) Sarah & Casey. The slow, almost behind the scenes build of their friendship - from interdepartmental rivalry to having each other's backs - is one of my favorite things about Chuck.

3.) HIMYM. I think just the show itself deserves a mentions, for writing a show about three couples (or two couples, one dude, and a mystery woman) and having each character have a friendship with all the other characters. It is truly a show about a group of friends.

4.) Black Star and Soul. I did not expect them to be BFFs, or to get the attentions their BFF-ness did.

5.) Sumire and the English journalist. They start out disliking each other (they were just too alike) and end up friends who look out for each other.

this week's [livejournal.com profile] fannish5 :

Name five effective uses of songs in movies or tv shows.

5.) Sarah McLaughlan's "Full of Grace" in Buffy's second season finale. Such a classic, I couldn't NOT put it on this list.

4.) "Don't Fear The Reaper" in Supernatural's "Faith" while the Reaper kills that jogger. I like loving that moment (or at least laughing with the show) is a make-it-or-break-it fannish moment.

3.) Chuck 2x07, the end of the episode. I saw the plot twist coming a mile away, but the cuts spoilers )

2.) Gossip Girl 1x10, Blair/Chuck make-outs to "You're A Wolf" by Sea Wolf.

1.) Life 2x01, "Living In A Devil's Playground" while Reese and Crews find the bodies lock in a truck. Everytime I hear 'there's some man who's started a war and I feel like knocking on heaven's door' I see them climbing the staircase up to the third body.
